Bus from Monaco to Eze #112

Recommended Posts

we are a family of 12 stopping in Villefranche in June. How difficult will it be for all 12 of us to get on the 112 bus to MC?

The problem with the #112 bus is that it only runs about once every 1:30 except during rush hours. You would do much better with the #100 bus which is the main bus line that connects Nice to Monte Carlo and it runs every 15 min. The #100 does stop at Villefranche.

I just looked at some timetables and it looks liek the Hadin Exotique and Eze Village are not very close together. For some reason, I thought they would be very near one another. Am I looking at this incorrect?

We planned to go from Monaco to Eze and go to the Jardin Exotique. How should be change/re-arrange our day?

It is not realistic to try to do both.

You either go to Eze, or spend the day in Monte Carlo and explore more sights than just Jardin Exotique.

Am I reading this correctly? It says

7 Mon-Sat, none on Sun

Do the buses not run on Sunday from Monaco to Eze?

I don't believe they do. I emailed the Eze tourism authority at eze@webstore.fr, and this is what they told me:

hello

the 112 bus does not run on sunday

the walk from the bus stop to the jardin exotique is about 15 minutes

from eze to Monaco you take the direct bus N°112 ( about 20 minutes )

best regards

I will admit to being puzzled about bus #112 Sunday service. If we download the timetable from the Ligne web site it does not show Sunday service. But if we use their main page and simply put Sunday into the time schedule it does show Sunday service. C'est la vie!

May I suggest Beaulieu Sur Mer as an alternative for Sunday?

It is on the Bus 100 route, and is a very pretty little town from what we can see (from train and from bus). The view we saw is stunning.

Supposedly there is a boulevard you can walk along the hillside that overlooks the sea, and is a very easy walk.

Actually, there is only two places we want to be on a Sunday in that part of France. In the morning there is the Flower Market in old town Nice and we also like to spend a few hours at St Paul de Vence where everything is open on Sundays. Both of these places are also very popular with the locals so these places can get a bit crowded....but that is also part of the fun.

Well, dont know what ship you will be on. I know for us, by the time we can tender in Monte Carlo it would be 10:30am. By the time we get to Nice, it would be 11:30am - whatever Flower Market would be close to the end of it by that time, as such markets tend to be open early in the morning and by noon they start to tidy up and close.

My plan is to go to Nice, enjoy the town a little bit. Then take either 100 or 81 back to Villefranche, walk from Villefranche to Beaulieu sur Mer, then take 100 back to Monte Carlo. Should have enough time to do that with a last tender at 5 or 5:30. So 11:30 to 17:00, we have 5.5 hours.

Bus to Nice is 30 min, x 2 = 1 hour, walk is an hour. So there are 2 hours, plus time spent on waiting for buses, exploring towns, for a total of 4 to 5 hours for everything.

Actually, taking the buses can be viewed as a tour itself. We do this often on port days. On that Emerald Princess cruise, we took the bus to Amalfi when the ship called on Naples. (Been in Naples and Pompeii decades ago, but missed Amalfi at the time.) It was terrific to sit at the big bus with the large window upfront, and let other drive while we enjoyed the scenery! The Seta bus station is about 1/2 mile from where Emerald Princess docked. We found it on our way to look for the ferry option. Our plans were either bus or ferry out to Amalfi, and train back from Sorrento, depended on which mode was available.

Lets deal with a couple of questions. The bus ride from Monaco to Eze is approximately 10 minutes. But keep in mind that the 112 does not run very often. Regarding Nho's post, we agree that if they are tendering-in to Monte Carlo at about 10:30 it is almost too late to enjoy the Nice Flower Market in Nice since they close by 1 pm (if you can get to the market by noon you would have some time). As to Nice on Sundays, most of the city is closed! You have to realize that the French see Sundays as a day of rest, and could care less about a cruise ship being in Monte Carlo. Some touristy shops will be open on Sundays, but most places are closed. This is why we always suggest Eze and St Paul de Vence on Sundays since just about everything is open in those two villages. Can one enjoy Nice on Sunday? Sure. There is always the Promanade with its view of the sea and a few places in the old town will open in the afternoon. But for us (and many French) , Sunday is the day to go to St Paul de Vence!

Can someone please tell me if I have the following plan correct!

Last time I was stranded at Eze and had to beg an RCCL tour bus to take us back to port! Of course, this happened on a Sunday. This time it will be a Thursday. Whew!!

Villefranche - Monaco/Monte Carlo - Eze - Villefranche

Outbound trip

Train from Villefranche to Monaco/Monte Carlo

#112 bus from stop across the park from Casino to Eze

Return trip

#83 from Eze Village to Eze Board du Mer

#100 bus fro Eze Bouard du Mer to Villefranche (L'Octroi stop)

Thanks!

mringenoldus: Your plan looks correct, but we did it in reverse order ... Villefranche - Eze Village - Monte Carlo & return to VF.

Normally if you have limited time, it's best to go to the furthest destination first, and work your way back (as per your itinerary). However, there are two options for getting back from Monte Carlo to VF (train and bus) and the trip is much quicker than getting back from Eze to VF, where you only have one option (the bus, with a connection.)

If time isn't a factor, then no need to worry, but if it is, then I would reverse the order.

OK, I have looked at the timetables for the bus from Villefranche to Eze. We will need bus number 82 on a Sunday to get to Eze village. However I am confused by the number of different stops in Villefrance. Which one is the nearest/easiest to get to from the cruise port?

Please note that you can't take a direct bus from Villefranche to Eze Village, unless you hike up to the 2nd corniche (middle road), which I think would be quite a challenge. Both buses#82 and #112 travel on the middle road.

#100 travels along the lower road and is about a 10 minute walk from the port (also uphill).

Two options on a Sunday: Take #100 to Nice and #82 to Eze Village,

or take #100 to Eze bord du Mer and #83 up to Eze Village.

Here's an interactive map of Villefranche .. the l'octroi bus stop (for #100) is near the T (tourist office) in the park (Jardin Francois Binon). You can enlarge the map to identify the bus stops (blue boxes), and move the map around.

From the port (Port de la Sante) we headed towards the Citadel and up to the park to catch the bus (#100).

http://www.villefranche-sur-mer.fr/pages/plan/planville.html

This simplified bus schedule might be easier to work from: http://www.webstore.fr/eze/emotions/deplacement/ang/bus.htm (note that it tells you which road the bus travels on ... lower, middle or upper).

Don't hesitate to email the Villefranche tourism office to get further clarification re this ... they were very helpful when I did.

There is an exotic garden at Eze Village and I wonder if this is the one you are thinking of? It's very interesting ... the gardens are nice (the cacti and sculptures were highlights) and the views are incredible. Very easy to get to ... we wandered up past the shops and came across it.

I am confused as to whether we can visit Eze on a Sunday by bus from Nice and then actually get from Eze to Monaco, from where our ship will depart very late in the day.

We planned to visit Old Town Nice, then perhaps the Chagall Museum, then go to Eze and from Eze back to Monaco.

Is there bus service to Eze from Nice and back from Eze to Monaco on Sundays? Our cruise leaves in two weeks!

After having a great deal of trouble getting a bus or a taxi big enough for 6 , I would definitely consider a rental car or tour in this area on a Sunday.

Getting to Monte Carlo on the train isn't too difficult if you're careful about making the time table. Getting to and from Eze is the challenge.

If the RCCL tour bus hadn't taken pity on us, we might have missed the ship. The people on the tour were very nice - but called us the "refugees"!

Hi Pam,

To go by bus, you could take #82 from Nice to Eze Village, then #83 from Eze Village to Eze bord de Mer and connect with #100 to Monte Carlo (I think there are 3 stops that #83 and #100 have in common in Eze bord de Mer).

Schedules for #82 (note the separate Sunday schedule for this route), and #83 are on this site: http://www.webstore.fr/eze/emotions/deplacement/ang/bus.htm #100 runs every 20 minutes.

You can get more detail from the bus line's website: http://www.lignedazur.com/ (the quickest link is to use the "Timetable" on the right side of the page ... you can enter the day, time, and change directions of the route.) The one confusing thing I find with this site is that it doesn't show stops in Monaco ... the list ends at Cap d'ail, but the buses do continue on into Monaco.

Although we try to help folks with the bus routes and schedules, we personally usually rent a car. Buses and trains are economical, but a lot of time is lost waiting for the next bus or train. With a car we simply go where we want when we want. Cars generally cost about $80 - $100 for a small car (4 passenger) with a manual transmission (automatics cost more and are often not even available). One potential issue is that it can be difficult to find local rental car companies that operate on Sundays (not a problem in Cannes). As a general rule we think public transit is fine if you only want to go to 1 or 2 places. But in the south of France there are many places that are not easily accessible with public transit such as St Paul de Vence and even Eze (the problem is the frequency of buses).

We were able to keep our wait times to under 10 minutes by planning in advance based on bus schedules, and having the schedules with us. (This is important for places that don't have frequent bus service, e.g. Eze Village).

We also like to explore by rental car when convenient, but with one day in VF and knowing that we wanted to see VF, Eze and Monte Carlo/Monaco on foot, public transportation turned out to be a good option for us to travel between those places.
