aqua Posted August 27, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 27, 2009 We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express for 2 nights last summer. It has a good location across the street from the beach in the Condado area. We walked to dinner and also bought bottled water for the cruise at a drug store. (Walgreens I think, but am not sure.) If you are looking for a resort, this is not the hotel for you. However, if you need nice place for a few days, it is a good choice.

BlueJacketsFan1 Posted September 1, 2009 #4 Share Posted September 1, 2009 There is a Sheraton right across from the pier. Close enough that you could easily walk to the pier the next morning. The is a Senor Frog's behind the Sheraton also. Good food and lots and lots of fun.

Maybe we received the wrong info but we were told Sheraton is near the port where ships dock if they are in port for the day and it is only a stopover. sc_cruizer Posted September 1, 2009 #6 Share Posted September 1, 2009 If you are cruising Carnival Victory, then the Sheraton is right across the street from where you will embark.:)
rainforestgirl Posted September 1, 2009 #7 Share Posted September 1, 2009 Yes- it matters which cruise line you are going with. The RCCL lines embark from the Pan Am pier, Carnival uses Pier 4 in OSJ. Day stops in port are at piers 3 and 4 right in OSJ (which is right across the street from the Sheraton). The Pan Am pier is not in OSJ, but across the bay. Not really walking distance to any hotel, but you may find some info on a new hotel that will open soon that is really close: http://www.starwoodhotels.com/sheraton/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=1523
DrmnOfMaui Posted September 2, 2009 #8 Share Posted September 2, 2009 We did the Intercontinental and really liked it. I would stay there again... Easy cab rides from the airport and to the pier. If you stay there, we really enjoyed Mi Casitas for breakfast. Great food and a fantastic price! It is right across the street from the hotel. ccruisenewbee Posted September 4, 2009 #11 Share Posted September 4, 2009 I read about a website called http://www.HotelPlusPortal.com on CruiseCritic. I just booked a pre-cruise room at the Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel & Casino for only $84.50!! I'm sure our room will have a horrible view but who cares. Two years ago we stayed at The Gallery Inn in Old San Juan before our first cruise. It was wonderful but very expensive. This time we are going to save $$. DrmnOfMaui Posted September 4, 2009 #12 Share Posted September 4, 2009 any suggestions for a resturant close to the intercontinental for dinner for 2 nights thanks Oh yes!!! I reviewed that in my review linked below too (have pics of our meal!) We ate at Platos, it was about a 5 minute walk from the Intercontinental. I found it highly recommended on the San Juan Board and those views were repeated by the hotel concierge. I read that Mi Casita was good for dinner, but didn't eat there for dinner myself. We also enjoyed a late afternoon meal by the pool at the beachside cafe. Really liked that too, good quesadillas, Lamb Pitas and pizza. We really enjoyed sitting on the beach and having our afternoon meal! (I think I have pictures of that in the review too....)

DrmnOfMaui Posted September 5, 2009 #14 Share Posted September 5, 2009 No problem Carol... I just wrote a lot more in the review and included pictures so I thought I would let you know that it was there in case you wanted to take a peek. I have included two more links into this post that should direct you to two more reviews.. both go through San Juan and might be of interest. :) Enjoy! Check out this review too, I really enjoyed reading it before our trip! http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=783539 These guys have some great info too!! http://web.mac.com/thecruiseguys/The_Cruise_Guys/Welcome.html

Trying to determine how close or far out from your sailing date you booked a room at the Sheraton. The price you got is awesome. Averaging well over $200 normally. Wondering if it's best to book early or wait. Thanx.
JandBR_PHX Posted September 12, 2009 #16 Share Posted September 12, 2009 We've stayed in Isla Verde (near the airport) both times we were in San Juan. Once at the Embassy Suites (Excellent!) once at the Water Club (HORRIBLE!!). We took a cab to Old San Juan the next morning and left our bags at a little place across from the pier till it was time to board.
cruiseawaits Posted September 12, 2009 #17 Share Posted September 12, 2009 Princess and RCCL leave from the Pan Am Pier...a little ways from Old San Juan. Carnival docks right in the heart of Old Sand Juan. There is a brand new "Sheraton San Juan Convention Center" set to open in Nov. 09. It looks to be very nice and it is directly across the street from the Pan Am Pier. Looked on the Sheraton site for February 2010 rates and it is a bit pricey, but quite convenient(and NEW!). caribbean2000 Posted September 12, 2009 #18 Share Posted September 12, 2009 Princess embarks from both OSJ and Pan American - we have taken four cruises with Princess that embarked from OSJ but in the last year they have started also using Pan American. This would be a question your agent *should* be able to research and answer.

Just curious and tried to find out the rates. They take reservation beginning on Dec. 1st. I presume they don't want to confirm reservations before that in case they are late opening. The rates start at $135, but with taxes, etc., it is $165. per night. Not bad! Gerry

tryptaker Posted September 12, 2009 #21 Share Posted September 12, 2009 I am also looking for San Juan hotels....Princess has quoted me 169 (Canadian) a night for the San Juan Marriott with additional nights at 129. They also have the Sheraton Old San Juan for 149 a night and additional nights at 109. These hotels would include transfers. Can anyone advise me if these are good deals or should I be looking for something else and doing transfer by taxi? We will spend two days prior to the cruise in PR and one day after. LuvBNatC Posted September 13, 2009 #22 Share Posted September 13, 2009 Yesterday RCI quoted me about $275 PER PERSON for the Marriott, and $228 for the Radisson, so I think the prices you got were pretty good. I'm looking for a hotel myself and my parents for one night in January.

I'm looking for a hotel myself and my parents for one night in January. Those prices seem very high. Why don't you just call the hotel chain for a room. I got the Caribe hilton for $237.00 and that is for Jan 1. Now the total will be about $299 once you add the taxes and resort fee, but that is still way cheaper than your price. (note: this is a senior rate, but you can get a room a bit lower if you pay inadvance. I think it was $229 plus taxes) Good luck Helen
LuvBNatC Posted September 14, 2009 #24 Share Posted September 14, 2009 Thanks for the advice. The Caribe Hilton is on my list. Right now I'm playing around with Priceline, but I've been checking out hotel sites and have found lower rates on the very same hotels RCI uses. Bella92 Posted September 25, 2009 #25 Share Posted September 25, 2009 wow...I can't imagine paying that much! I was able to get the Marriott through price line @ $95 for December 20th post cruise. I'd definately suggest ya'll give that a try :-)
