I have done the evening Whale Watch through the ship at ISP, it is done through Allen Marine Tours. Yes it is a nice size catamaran but it’s roomy , lots of ver clear clean windows. Plus viewing on top. I have done many tours with them and never felt crowded and their employees are extremely knowledgeable.

we went the veryfirst sailing when HAL returned to service the last week of July 2021.

I've only done an independent tour (Hoonah Adventures or something like that) and it was great. Small boat, not crowded. I think the ship tours use the large two-deck boats, but I'm not sure. Have you tried contact any of the independents to see if they ever do tours a little later for a ship that arrives at 6 PM?

Here's a review of what sounds like a ship's tour in ISP. The picture shows mostly 2-deck boats.

Thank you. I haven’t checked with them yet but that’s on my to do list tomorrow

  4. We will be on Eurodam next Aug.  we are in ISP from 6pm until 10.  I would like to do whale watching and it looks like I will have to go with ship excursion because it doesn’t look like any of the independents go out that late.  I am assuming it will be a large vessel with a lot of people. For those that have done this through ship is my assumption correct?  If so did you enjoy it and feel like there was plenty of room for everyone to see the whales and other sea life?

  5. I have used Princess protection and the price only increased a small amt once I add flights thru Flight ease.  From my research and discussion with Princess and Hal it does cover flights if booked through them. Also, you may want to ck the medical coverage.  It’s not very much and a lot of health ins don’t cover out of country medical care.  I used this because I liked the idea of not having to pay until final payment but I did pick up additional medical coverage thru Geoblu.

  6. We are taking this tour next year and I need to make flight arrangements from Seattle to return home.  I can’t determine what time the flight from Anchorage arrives in Seattle.  Per the tour we are supposed to stay the night in Seattle then return home On our own the next day. I am hoping I can get a flight out the day we fly in from Anchorage. Hopefully someone can help me with the expected time of arrival in Seattle based on past experience.  Tia.

Very interesting. I purchased over $30K of gift cards and used them do for the world cruise this year. Glad we didn’t have to cancel or use our trip insurance!

How does the travel insurance comp know that you paid for a cruise with a credit card or gift cards? The HAL statement doesn’t differentiate how they received the money. Do you need to submit something else for proof of payment, like your credit card statement?

I had to file an ins claim and had to show my actual payment. In our case I had to provide copies of my credit card statement. So I guess that’s how they would know.

  8. I use insure my trip.  I am not sure they would reimburse the cost related to the DVC points.  I had to use them one time and had to show proof of what I paid for airline tickets.  I had to provide a copy of my credit card statement. .  Typical the cruise line ins will only cover the cost of the cruise. 3rd party will cover cost of flights etc along with cost of cruise. I would suggest reading the DCL policy and then comparing to policy from a 3rd party.  Also may want to check will it cover medical cost or medical evacuation in the unfortunate event you need medical care.  May want to check your health Ins because some insurances do not cover out of country medical expenses.

  9. O my last cruise pre Rona we had a card in our r room to call and order. You can also order different sodas.  Like 3 Diet Coke and 3 sprite.  I am getting the drink package this time and it says we get a discount on cans of soda.  I wonder if that would apply to package also?

We've stayed in cabin B749 and it's a nice cabin. We stay in aft cabins all the time now. Cruising up to Alaska there is a lot of cold wind and being back aft you don't get that cold wind, it's more protected.

Thanks. We love aft cabins especially in Alaska. It’s already booked for sept 2022 so we couldn’t get it.

  11. As far as ships go we have done both round trips out of Seattle. For us Princess is the way to go. They have naturalist and rangers. Loved the staff. They seemed genuinely happy to be on the ship and happy we were on the ship and then there are the puppies. Although I wouldn’t pick Princess just  for the puppies.  They also seem to have more permits to the areas that need permits. One excursion I would highly recommend is the one where you leave the ship and take a small boat that gets really close to the glaciers. It’s on Juneau day. If you are heading into Juneau in the afternoon you will leave the ship before you get to Juneau then meet back up with it in Juneau. If you dock in Juneau in the am you will leave from the dock and then meet back up it’s ship at the glacier
