1. Still looking for more opinions!:)

I would do the Adventure cruise if it won't break you financially because if I read your original post correctly that is the one you had your heart set on. I also would do that one because I've really wanted to go on that particular cruise and I love the Adventure's sister ship, the Navigator.

  2. What I'm looking for is to find out from people who have the drink package included with their booking, if it shows on the Web page under purchased drink packages. I was reading on the Celebrity Forum (link below) were people who got the "Pick Your Perk" promo are sometimes having problems, were their printed docs show the package, but not on the web booking. My web booking does not show the drink package, but my printed docs do.

Being the same company I was wondering if anybody on RCI has had this problem or at least if it shows on their web booking.

It is showing on mine next to the drink package section on the pre-cruise planner. It has a 1 next to it but when you click on the link it shows that it has been purchased for my husband and myself.

  3.
Just my .02 but if you have a deadly allergy (I'm assuming you mean a food allergy) I would reconsider switching to MTD. If you keep the set seating, you will have the exact same wait staff each night. Since they'll know you're coming they'll be able to check with the kitchen ahead of time to confirm which menu items you can or can't have that night, and/or can work with the kitchen to have alternate options available. With MTD, you can request the same waiter each night, but it may not be possible, and each time you get a new waiter, you'll be starting from scratch explaining your allergy, asking if a particular dish can be made another way, etc.
This is so true. I have a mild seafood allergy and was served Lobster Bisque after informing my waiter for the evening of my allergy. This was on a different cruise line but I doubt I would have had that issue if I had traditional dining.
  4. We had a very similar issue. We were booked in stateroom 12636 on the Oasis. My friend was thinking about joining us so I added her to our reservation and changed the to room 8636. She will most likely not come with us now but the problem of 2 people in a cabin that holds 3/4 didn't occur to me. Yikes. It is an off season cruise so hopefully we won't get booted from the room since I really want to experience my first hump cabin. I guess if we do it won't be that big of an issue. I've been wanting to experience one if the big girls so I think I would be happy in any room.:D

  5. We started with Carnival so I know where the OP is coming from. In fact, I had such low expectations thinking there would only be cheap cabins and buffets-only meals, no entertainment, that I was wowed on Carnival! I thought, "No way can these ship have anything to offer at these prices", but the itineraries seemed well worth it.

Carnival passengers did seemed consistently more outgoing and friendly, but we made better friends on Royal, so it's a wash for us. We liked the MDR food better on Carnival, and missed the self-serve drink stations near the buffet. Other than that, Royal Caribbean is our preference on everything else.

We got a great price on our Carnival cruise. We were able to stay in a suite for what an outside or a balcony typically costs on Royal but it was a 5 day and not long after the debacle so I'm sure that factored into the great price.

  6. Misty, I enjoyed reading that comparison between Carnival and RCCL. Our experience was the opposite - we sailed on RCCL first and then Carnival. Since we have both the RCL Grandeur and Carnival Pride in Baltimore - an easy <2 hr drive, we wanted to like the Pride since the rates were significantly less. But we really missed the WOW factor that you can't quite put your finger on, and wouldn't choose Carnival over RCCL again.

Looking forward to meeting you on the Navigator in May, and am sure they will have worked out all the kinks by then. And hopefully - no fog!!!

Judi, I am sorry that I missed your post! I thought this thread disappeared when CC went down and the search function was non existent.

I look forward to meeting you as well! It's getting close...yay!

Were you able to make lunch reservations for the specialty dining? Thank you!

Yes, we were able to make reservations for Giovanis. My hubby didn't make reservations for Izumi but I believe that was an option. With both restaurant we were the only customers initially.

  7. There is a casino near my house that allows smoking. When I smoked cigs I would encounter the same type of people making faces and comments or better yet, the people who would wave their hand almost in my face to push the smoke away. I would politely recommend they move to the non-smoking section or go the another local casino that doesn't allow smoking.

Now that I am vaping, sometimes the smoke bothers me. When it does, I don't say a word, I just move to another area. Smokers have very few places where they are entitled to smoke. I will not be one of those people that try to take that away from them.

We have a couple of casinos fairly close by in Oklahoma. I thought I would get a lot of dirty looks/ hand waving because frankly it happens everywhere else I go but I've never received it there (that I've noticed at least). Might be why we gable so much.....lol

  8. I can honestly say that I would never and have never forced my habit onto someone who approached me and asked if I could refrain while they were present. I have had it happen a few times and simply responded with an "Of course no problem". It just doesn't happen that often because generally people would either presume a negative response or enter into a request prepared for aggression. nine to ten a smoker would normally respond in kind to a reasonable request in a respecting manner. I am not a mind reader and if someone joins me or an area I'm and says nothing I probably won't even think of the issue. If however I join someone else or an area not identified as non smoking I would probably ask if they mind if I smoke. different on a cruise ship where there are recognised areas and the prior knowledge of the rules, if I am in a smoking area I take it for granted that I'm doing nothing wrong.

Unfortunately we live in a world now where courtesy and is fast becoming a foreign concept. "Smoking" is now looked upon as being antisocial which it probably is but I believe society has taken it to the next level by presuming "Smokers" should be treated as such instead of accommodating them sensibly without making them feel like they are a leper colony of old.

there are sensible alternatives many that have been raised on this forum which would please most from both parties. As for the casino personally I don't care where I smoke so long as I can do it legally without being scorned like a child, frowned upon or read a riot act. I'm a big boy with a vice that I'm already aware of from my wife thank you very much lol. I have no desire to smoke in an area that breeds further discontent from my fellow human beings and when I leave that sordid area and return I can still prove to be quite a respectable individual that many a antismoking lobbyist would probably find interesting, funny, charming and !! OK you get the idea!:D

Well said and I agree whole heartedly.

On our last cruise we sat down to smoke while gambling. There were ashtrays next to several if the machines however it was a non-smoking area (we didn't see the sign). A fellow cruiser brought it to our attention that it was a non-smoking area. We were thankful that she did since we try to only smoke where it is allowed. We were in the wrong but our fellow cruiser was still courteous about our goof which we appreciated. On the other side of the spectrum we were in the smoking section and another fellow cruiser shot daggers at us and made some pointed comments to her friend that were meant to be overheard. She quickly left the area in a huff but went to another smoking area. She was so rude that I was tempted to follow her with my cigarette. Of course I wouldn't do that but the tantrum was unnecessary. I respond very well to polite requests to extinguish my cigarette or she could move to the non-smoking area.

  9. Sorry, hard to believe. Who calls up to make their final payment and cancels on the spur of the moment because they didn't like the way customer service was talking to them?

I would have most likely done the same if it were my first cruise and there was another company offering a similar product that would meet my needs. I can understand someone not wanting to spend a lot of money with a company when they get mistreated by those representing that company.

OP, I'm sorry about your experience and I hope you enjoy hour Carnival cruise!

  10. Last time we were at Izumi, the cover was $3 for lunch and $5 for dinner. Seems to have gone up at bit.

Yeah, to be honest I was a little miffed at first that they were charging the same price for lunch and dinner. I knew we were already planning for my hubby and a friend to partake one day at lunch time and it is easier to justify $3 or even $5 but $10 on top of the bill I knew my honey would rack up was hard to swallow. When my hubby came back and told me that they used the $10.00 towards the cost of the meal I was very happy though. Until others reported the same, I thought it was a special but it sounds like it may be permanent. :)

  11. I believe these are the specialty restaurants and the cover charges. Someone please correct me if you see any errors.

    Chops- $35.00

    Giovanni's Table- $15.00 lunch $20.00 dinner

Izumi- $10.00 cover charge & ala cart pricing however the cover charge will be used towards your bill.

    Sabor Modern Mexican-$25.00

    I hope this helps!

  12. My husband and I both got the free cruise offer. They had at least two promotions; one for gamblers and one for non-gamblers. It was a great offer and I appreciate that we received it but the dates didn't work out for us, unfortunately.

  13. No it wasn't mire lack of planning! I brought more with me than most use in 6 months. That was not the point. They plan for every type of personal haba product that could be needed. It must be nice to know you will never come up short when dealing with a health issue that wasn't planned. It is a floating city with a full medical service I guess I was wrong looking for help. Well that said I guess best to complain about who wears a tie in the MDR and who couldn't get a song played. Sorry for the input.

I'm sorry that you are getting snarky comments for this.

I have had similar predicaments and have been thankful that a majority of land based businesses provide for this issue. I too would have expected that the ship would have this type of provision. I'm glad that there were those that were willing to assist you. :)

  14. Hello everyone!

    Quick question:

I made my final Payment on Feb. 5th for our April allure cruise.

Then I noticed the next day I saw a $340.00 credit on my credit card.

I tried calling royal carribean and they told me I need to get the info directly from my travel agent.

I called my travel agent but no response. Emailed her and she said she would get back to me. But it's been 2 days

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone?

What could it be? Am I losing something on the criuse?...I got an excellent package thru the travel agent and an added promotion thru RCCL.

I just was wondering what it could be?!???

    Thanks for the help!!

I have read where others have had excursions cancelled. Is it possible that this could be the cause?

  15. I have no problem with people not wanting to dress up on formal nights. I DO have a problem with people who do not want to dress up trying-no insisting that they be admitted to the MDR as if it is a matter of right.

I just irks me that a few people simply insist that the rules don't apply to them. I keep asking why is that so? If the rules exist they should apply to everyone.

If you don't want to dress properly go to the buffet or another dining venue that does not have a dress code. It should eb as simple as that.....

I completely respect your opinion. There do seem to be a larger number of people these days who don't think the rules apply to them and/or they possess a sense of entitlement which is frustrating. Based on my very limited cruising experience and my constant presence on Cruise Critic, I don't believe that is the main issue, though. I perceive the bigger issue with people not dressing formally on formal night seems to have more to do with the wording on RCCL's site regarding dress. When I was doing my research for my first RCCL cruise, I would have thought that formal dress was optional based on the "suggested dress". Now if they had written "mandatory dress" or even "recommended dress" then it would seem less optional (or not optional). To add to that, from what I read, the Maître Ds rarely turn anyone away. Then you have this highly addictive forum where some write that it is fine, be comfortable, wear what you want while the other half say it is mandatory, if you don't want to dress up eat elsewhere. My perception is that there are a large contingent who would dress formally if they thought it was a rule.

Anyway, those are my thoughts based on very little experience. :)
