  1. Since your upcoming both are on Carnival and Princess you will be docked at Mahogany Bay in Roatan.

There is a beach and beach chairs there at no charge for your use. It's a nice beach area but not good for snorkeling. :)

Thanks!! Is it sort of like One of the Cays or Margaritaville, then? Beach and chairs are free?

  2. Have taken a couple of closed loop cruises to Bahamas (carnival) and we are ready to take the family somewhere new. Looking at Eastern Caribbean to Grand Turk, St Kitts, St Maarten, and Puerto Rico. Hubby and I have passports, but have previously just provided birth certificates for kids, does anyone know the requirements for this itinerary?

Taking Carnival Sunshine in late Oct, if anyone has recently been on the ship we would love some insight!

  3. I have a family of 7 and we want our next cruise and include Mexico (or Belize) specifically to see some ruins. Where are the BEST ruins that Carnival offers? We do not want to book through the cruise line for an excursion, at nearly $100 per person. Can we not take a cab or a bus to the ruins? Anyone have experience seeing the ruins without booking the excursion?

    Help please!

  4. My lawyer obtained an approval order from a judge before my custody was final for a trip we took.

Can you tell me the wording used in your court order? i am going through the same thing and my lawyer wants to be sure we have it worded correctly. I guess he had another client that was denied boarding because of the wording of the court order.

  5. My ex husband (in prison) will not give me permission to take our 3 kids on a cruise. Leaving Charleston in Sept for Bahamas.

In process or step parent adoption which will not be completed before we leave. Ex husband being difficult just to get back at me- it was an ugly divorce and a violent marriage.

Has anyone ever gotten a court order to travel in place of the absent parents permission? My attorney wants to know how the order should be worded. Can anyone share if they have successfully received a court order for travel and what exactly it states?

  6. Paradise Cove in Freeport (Nor Nassau) is not free, it is a nice little "resort?" with a reef, beautiful beach and some small shops and food shacks.

If i remember right, it was about 8 dollars for the day to use the beach, but the taxi ride was 16 pp round trip. Of course chairs, umbrellas are extra (I think $20 for both)

  7. Hey, i am in the same situation, except we have about 4 more hours in port. I have been doing a lot of research and w will be checking in(immediately checking out) of the comfort suites (2 minutes from Atlantis) we will need 2 rooms (there are 7 of us) You get 4 free wristbands to Atlantis per room. This gets you into the dig, the pools, the waterpark, the beach..I believe everything except the dolphin experience.

It doesnt sound like you are going to have very much time in port, I would consider just taking a taxi in this case because having to wait in port for the excursion people takes for ever- you could already be there starting your day.

Not sure about snorkeling around Atlantis, I know they have an experience for that at the "ruins" but you can also n=snorkel for free at Junkanoo - not much to see or the public beach a little farther past Junnkaoo.

Are you going to Freeport? IMO Paradise Cove is the best snorkleing. (20 minute taxi ride)

  8. Your kids are really young, i wouldnt splurge on the excursions. When you get off at Nassau, walk towards the right )you will see mcdonalds) just ask someone, there will be tons of people standing around.

Don't let yourself get talked into a tour or a taxi right as you get off the boat, now isnt the time to be polite, just say no thanks and for goodness sake, keep moving. Get to the mcdonalds (free wifi) then keep heading right (you will stay close to the shore) after mcdonalds is a straw market- you are going to get hassled, just say no thanks and look if you want something keep moving if you dont. If you are going to get a bahama bag, this is the place to do it IMO. Keep heading right you will get to junkanoo beach- it's free, it's a nice enough beach, it might get crowded towards lunch time, if so head back into town for some shopping/window shopping. Lots of beautiful buildings to take pictures of.

There is nothing in Freeport that doesnt require an expensive taxi. Get off the boat, check out the market right there in the parking lot, then get back on the boat and enjoy a nice peaceful nap and lunch.

If your kids were bigger I would say, pay the money to go to Paradise Cove- awesome snorkeling!

  9. Let me add that there is really nothing in freeport that you can just walk to. You can also snorkel in Nassau, we went to the public beach (there is a jut of concrete, like a bridge/catwalk if you get off the ship head right (pass mcdonalds) and a beach there that you can use, also if you go down a little farther- you will see a grassy open area and another beach behind that, this is much less crowded. (pass junkanoo and keep heading away from ships.) Sorry, i didn't remember the name of the beach area. There was only 3 or 4 other people there when we went but Junkanoo, where the little brightly colored shops are closer to mcdonalds, it was packed.

  10. Wondering where to go once we get off the ship. We don't like the crowds and would prefer to be out of the way. But would also like somewhere to sit and maybe some shade. Definitely want to be able to snorkel and let the kids wade/swim.

Is there a section/beach are that is better for families/large groups that aren't into the party atmosphere?

    Big thanks!!

  11. My husband and I took our first cruise in Sept 2013. Also our first time ever snorkeling. We took a cab to paradise Cove. The cab was 16 dollars each way (for both) I can't remember the cost of Paradise cove, but it was cheap for what you got. They have a short safety lesson, you can rent chairs, floatation belts (great for non or weak swimmers) and snorkeling gear. The reef it a pretty good swim (float) to get to, but we saw fish, even a sting ray, in the shallower water (the grass area)

The deeper water out by the reef and floats had tons of beautiful fish, we even saw a couple barracudas. *tip* take a box of cheerios off the ship, the fish will swarm like crazy.

The beach are was family owned, they weren't at all pushy like a lot of the other stops we made. There is a little shop and a couple of small places to eat/drink.

The beach or gorgeous, I can't stress that enough.

I would definitely not suggest a non swimmer get all the way out to the reef, but there is plenty to see closer to shore. - Definitely rent the yellow float belt.

You can see how far the reef is, and the good fish are on the back side
