  1. Why would you give up CK in order to dine with those in steerage class.

I sailed the Allure last month. Food is very subjective but I enjoyed the dinner choices in the MDR much more than the choices in CK. We always had room service for breakfast, so I can't compare MDR and CK for breakfast, and lunch was always at WJ, pizza or the MDR for the tutti salad bar. The snacks in the suite lounge were always nice because for some reason, we could never get our acts together and get to CK for breakfast or lunch (already closed every time we tried).

I was also disappointed with our meal at Giovanni's this time. It wasn't bad, it just was nothing special. When we dined there in 2013, the food was excellent.

  2. If you are going to MTD for either of the formal nights, I would recommend reservations. For any other night, we were seated the moment we arrived on our May Allure sailing. There are two lines, one for reservations/suite guests and one for no reservations.

We only ate at CK twice and didn't have reservations either night but we ate fairly late. From others I spoke with, they were very busy during peak times and most made reservations so they didn't have to wait.

    Have a great cruise!!

  3. Thanks for sharing.

RCI is probably doing this so when they pull a perk from the Star class benefits they can say they have this.

I can only hope one opens up for you.

    Love the CL1 and CL2.

We are back in a CL! this summer and love the 17th deck.

    Enjoy, we do

    Safe travels.

We splurged on our 2013 cruise with the CL1 and thought it would just be a one time thing. HA....I learned once you cruise in a crown loft, nothing less is worth it. Those two story ocean views are just amazing!!! I even looked into getting an aqua theater suite this cruise, so we could try the Star class perks. Because they don't have that two story window, it wasn't worth it to me. We are so excited and will be in Ft Lauderdale this time next week!

Wishing you a great cruise this summer and I can see why you love the CLs too!!! The 17th deck is always so private and quiet!!

  4. I find it intriguing. First, I would make sure it is legit by calling Royal. I would also find out what these "missions" are because I would not want to do the flow rider or the climbing wall should those be "missions". If all checks out to my satisfaction, I would sign up. Also, I doubt it would interfere with any excursions as they would not want to lose money that way.

If the OP signs up, please come back and tell us how it worked out for you. We're on the November 25 Allure sailing so I'll know about your experience in case I get an email.

I figured out it isn't from RCCL even though the email was meant to look like it. They had the RCCL graphic at the top of the letterhead. They also had the return address listed as RCCL. However, when you click on the actual email address, it's listed as Royal Caribbean <noreply@qemailserver.com>

When I put the address into google search, a Facebook help forum came up. Apparently, someone received the same survey, etc stating they were doing research for Facebook. This was Facebook's official response:

"That is not a Facebook email address and does not appear to be a Facebook survey. I recommend not engaging with links like this as they could be fishing scams. If you would like to leave feedback, you can use the following link from our Help Center" blah, blah, blah

I won't be responding to anything more from these people and I'm upset that I gave them my home address and phone number on the initial survey...UGH!!

However, if they are a legit 3rd party company, there are others on my Roll Call who received the same email and are very much interested in participating if it's legit. I'll let you know when we get back!!

  5. If this is true, very disappointing. I'm planning on an OTW cabana on Barefoot next month.

It's true. I emailed my request to Concierge 3 days ago and was told there are no OTW or Beachfront cabanas available but they would put me on the waiting list. Today, I received the routine introductory Concierge email and they did the same...stated only hilltop and standard are available.

I'm sure the waiting list is for whatever is left over from Star class, which is ridiculous.

  6. I'm still wondering if the email is really from RC.

I figured out it isn't from RCCL even though the email was meant to look like it. They had the RCCL graphic at the top of the letterhead. They also had the return address listed as RCCL. However, when you click on the actual email address, it's listed as Royal Caribbean <noreply@qemailserver.com>

  7. How much does a cabana cost to rent?????:)

They have skyrocketed in price the last few years and as long as people keep renting them, RCCL will keep raising the prices. They are nice to have while on Labadee as a home base, for shade, comfort, etc but the prices are ridiculous!!

    There are 3 types:

    Standard-$295

    Beachfront (only 2) and Hilltop-$395

    Over the Water-$495

If you are in a GS or above, you rent them on Barefoot Beach via the Concierge. All other rooms can rent them on Nellie's Beach in your pre-cruise planner. But even at the high prices, they still go quickly.

Now that I think of it, I think they went up another $15 in the last few weeks on Nellie's Beach. All prices are listed in your cruise planner.

  8. We will be cruising on the Allure on 5/21 and today I received this email:

Thank you for your responses thus far.

We would like to offer you the chance to be considered to participate in a study onboard Allure of the Seas sailing May 21st -- we are not trying to sell anything! In fact, we are offering you an onboard credit for each day that you are asked to participate. Your participation in this study will help shape the future of cruise ships!

    Here's how it will work:

    • Before your sailing departs, we will have a phone call with you for just 30 minutes to get to know you and your expectations for this upcoming cruise, as well as answer any questions you may have for us
    • Once your cruise has begun, we'll ask you to complete an exciting mission and journal about it via a mobile device app each day (which means you'll also get free internet for your cruise!). Each task will be quick and easy to complete, in most cases it includes things you would be doing anyway
    • We will meet in person once a day for no more than 30 minutes to have a casual conversation about how your mission went
    • On the final day of your sailing, we will host a small party for all participants and their families to gather final thoughts on your cruise experience and have some fun!

For your time, at the end of each day we will apply an onboard credit to your account in the amount of $100USD per day.

Would you be interested in being considered for a chance to participate?

I don't think I will participate in this because there are so many things to do on the Allure and we have excursions in every port. Time will be of the essence on this particular cruise. However, I'm curious if anyone else has participated in this and can tell me what it's all about? Is it worth the $100/day OBC? Is it very time consuming? I took the initial survey just to see what the "perks" they hinted at were. We'll already have free WIFI for sky class but that daily OBC sure is tempting. Is it each day or are there only certain days they ask you to participate?

This just has me really curious.

  9. It will be charged to your SeaPass acct, which you have to pay before getting off the ship. As far as thudershowers go, I have no idea if they allow you to cancel. It has never rained when I've been there and usually, rain only lasts a few minutes in the Caribbean during this time of year. On our last cruise in Dec, the forecast was rain/storms every single day. I think it rained twice for about 20 minutes the entire 10 day cruise.

    Have a great cruise!!!

  10. I also recommend Coki Beach in St Thomas and they also have Coral World Ocean Park right next door, which I bet your kids would love. We really enjoyed it when we were there. I'm with everyone else...Nassau is boring but like you said, lots of people stay on the ship. I've never been to St Kitts but Bob recommended a beach there, so I'm sure it would be a good one.

I think I'd spend the day on the ship while in Nassau since you won't be there long anyway and just hope plenty of people do get off so you can enjoy a fairly empty ship! However, you're right and there is a dolphin place (boat ride there) in Nassau because we went while there. St Thomas is so pretty and there are so many options of things to do there and I'm sure St Kitts is gorgeous as well and would be a great beach day.

This is a tough question but whatever you decide, I hope you have a great cruise!! My family will be getting on the Allure when you will be getting off!!

  11. I've never played the slots on a cruise ship (always heard you can't win) until last Christmas. Sailing on HAL and due to wind/high seas, we didn't get to go to their private island on the last day. I ended up drinking a little too much because I was so disappointed. Guess the alcohol gave me the courage to go to the casino because I decided to play some slots to pass the time. I walked out with $350 more than I started with, which was a nice surprise.

Hope the Allure will let me win a little something in a little over a week!!

  12. Ok here it is... my husband is 80 yrs old. He has full dentures. Had a dental procedure the night before cruise so bottom gum was painful. 2nd night after dinner, he took out bottom denture, cleaned it placed it on the sink, we went out to a show, he says oh I forgot it, I say don't worry we're not eating leave it. Returned at 11 pm GONE!! Attendant tossed it in the trash!! Called they say sorry trash got incinerated!!! Next 5 days no teeth!! Couldn't eat anything that wasn't mashed! Pics were ruined! He was embarrassed, and miserable! Housekeeping Sup says we don't pay for lost or stolen!! Was neither, he trashed it!!! He calls in sick next 2 days and doesn't clean our room 2 of the 7 days I have to call for towels!!!Top it all off formal night waitresss spill our champagne all over my gown, have to sit in wet dress all night, husband gets sick from eating freaky food, and miss Mexico excursion we pd for. You tell me was that worth the 4K I paid to celebrate my 30th anniversary!!

I will agree with you. That was a horrific experience and I don't blame you at all for being so upset. I'm sorry you had such a disappointing cruise and I hope RCCL works with you to make things right.

How does someone throw away teeth by mistake? Was the attendant blind? Did your husband have them wrapped up in tissues because then I can see how the attendant threw them away by mistake. If they were in a glass or just lying on the counter, there is no excuse.

  13. I sailed HAL for the very first time last Christmas having already sailed Disney, RCCL and NCL. I was quite impressed to say the least, especially with the food compared to the other lines. (similar to Disney which also had great food).

I am 53 and sailed on the Nieuw Amsterdam with my 2 daughters, ages 22 and 16 and we had a fantastic and relaxing time and booked the cruise due to the price and the itinerary. We spent many nights at the piano bar and the BB King club and those were the only entertainment venues we utilized because we went every night. The crew was incredible, the ship was beautiful, service was impeccable and we really loved dining at the Pinnacle Grill one night for dinner. Spending our first Christmas at sea was an incredible experience and HAL made it extra special!!

If I want to have a crazy, jam packed vacation (and ultimately need a week's vacation to recuperate from the week's vacation) with my kids/grandson, I'll sail on RCCL and an Oasis class ship. If I want to enjoy my vacation and relax as much as possible on my balcony while looking forward to a great itinerary and great food, I'll sail on HAL (this coming December again...woo hoo!)

  14. My favorite and the only deck I've ever had on Oasis class is the 17th! :D LOVE the crown loft suites because of that two story window view and having 2 bathrooms. Also love the privacy of the 17th deck...it's soooo quiet!

I always cruise with my 2 daughters but on our Allure cruise in 2 wks, I'm also taking my 14 y/o grandson on his very first cruise. I can't wait to see his reactions to the Allure and cruising in general. I hope he loves cruising as much as my daughters and I do!!

  15. If you are cruising the western itinerary in 2 wks, the cruise leaves on May 21st, not the 14th because I'm taking that cruise as well.

Nothing is set in stone due to unforeseen circumstances but based on the last Allure western itinerary cruise (April 30-May 7th) cruise compasses, the Love and Marriage Game Show will be in the Amber Theater on Tues, May 23 at 10:30 PM and the Quest Game Show will be in Studio B on Friday, May 26th at 10:15 PM

We have a great roll call with lots of activities planned. Come join us!!

  16. Keep an eye on your Cruise Planner as they occasionally have sales. We booked the Dragon's Flight Zipline in Labadee for our upcoming May cruise during a sale last Feb for $77. We already did this back in 2013 and it was incredible!!! Be sure and take your camera as the views are awesome and it's the longest zipline over water. We use the rest of the day as a beach day.

We are also doing Dunn's Falls, horseback riding in the ocean and Ochos Rios tour with Peat Taylor Tours who comes highly recommended on Trip Advisor and the Jamaica board.

Doing Chaankaab Park dolphin excursion with RCCL in Cozumel because it was also on sale back in Feb and the price was better than I found anywhere else. It also includes all you can eat/drink buffet for lunch.

We did all of these same excursions back in 2013 but this time we're taking my grandson and my kids had such a great time before, they want to do them all again.

Whatever you choose, you'll have a great cruise!!

  17. "They" say that Tuesday afternoon, six weeks before your departure, is the best time to book a flight. I don't know who "They" are or how accurate that information is. We start looking at flights and hotels as soon as we have our cruise booked. When we find a price we are comfortable with, we book it. Sometimes that works out to be a year in advance, other times it's only 2 or 3 months in advance.

I always book my hotels right away to get the best price. I saved quite a bit of money by booking my hotels for our May cruise back in December when I booked the cruise. I can't believe how much the hotel prices have gone up since then. I'm just thankful it's off season and the prices were so much lower than our cruise last December when the prices were outrageous!

As far as airfare goes, I wait to start looking at about 4 months out and watch every day for the best deals. For me, it has usually been about 6 wks to 2 1/2 months out for some reason and yes, Tuesday seems to be the best day to book but I have no clue why. I have looked at airfare 9mos - yr out thinking the prices would be really good that far in advance but it's the opposite...prices are ridiculously high for some reason and there is no way I'll book that soon and pay those prices.

    Good luck!!

  18. If you are on Barefoot Beach and price isn't a concern, I'd go with an over the water cabana. We had W5 back in 2013 and loved it. The views were incredible!

However from what I've read lately, the Star class now get first choice which usually only leaves hilltop and standard left for Sky class. They assign you the exact cabana # so it's just the luck of the draw. For Star class, the genie will contact you before the cruise and ask you if you want a cabana. For Sky class, the concierge emails you about a week before the cruise and that's when you request the cabana.

Here is a map of the Barefoot Beach cabanas. S=standard, W=over the water, H=hilltop and B=beachfront

  19. In labadee I just got an over the water cabana booked at barefoot Beach. Does anyone have any pictures of this cabana and is it a good one to have? Should I try to get a beach front instead?

It seems like if I want to get drinks from the bar or bring food from the BBQ I won't be able to because I need to climb a ladder to get in the cabana?

When we were in Labadee in 2013, we had OTW #5 which we absolutely loved and right next to yours. They are easy to get to and the stairs are for climbing out of the water if you don't want to walk around. I loved not having people always walking next to the cabana to get into the water, the reason it's nicer than a beachfront cabana. I think you'll really enjoy it and #6 is the most private. Have a great cruise!!

Here is a map so you can see how private they are except for the cabana next to you. Have a great cruise!!
