  1. I've had this happen three times! First was Stampin up group. Bunch of middle age ladies acting like they were just let out of a zoo. Second was a few years ago with gay guys. They were fine--only problem was they hogged all the loungers by the solarium--all day long. Two weeks ago we were on Freedom with some country group. They made up 25% of the cruisers. Very noticeable everywhere but no problems. They did use the Star lounge every night. Games usually done in there were moved to the On Air club. A big plus was that they were so busy with their shows that pool loungers were always available and there were plenty of available seats the the theater each night. We have another cruise booked next year so I did a Google search. That one will have some Canadian Bible group! Seems like there's some sort of group on most every cruise nowadays. I wouldn't change my cruise if I were you.

  2. Just off Freedom of the Seas. We had a fantastic cruise with one exception. Reservations for the specialty restaurants are obviously down since you are constantly asked as you enter the Windjammer if you'd like to make reservations. We signed up for the BOGO before we left, so I just kept saying that we already had reservations. They also stopped us when walking past Sabor. Then, about the 3rd day, they started interrupting our conversations at lunch. I really felt their attempt to sell the specialty reservations was overly annoying. Maybe if they lowered the price more people would actually try these restaurants and they wouldn't have to do their sales pitch all day long.

  3. I am the OP. Thanks so much everyone for your comments. I'm more confused than ever! :D I do have Freedom of the Seas booked (did I mention that--not sure how someone knew that), but I am trying to decide if I should cancel. To be honest, I have been on Freedom of the Seas four times already--this will be my 8th Royal cruise. But, I'm getting a bit bored. I think it might be time to just totally try something new! Thanks also for all your honesty! I thought posting this on the Carnival thread might show all pro-Carnival, but you've all been very honest!! Still not sure what we'll do...my husband can't imagine that I'm considering not being "loyal to royal."

  4. What WOWED me the most was the Cruise Director, Joff Eaton. I think he's on vacation after this week, but he was the absolute best cruise director I've ever had. I also really liked all of the entertainment. I loved Oasis, but can honestly say I like the Freedom class more. I liked not having to pre-plan all my entertainment options. I liked how almost everyone goes to the same show at night and then you can talk about it the next day. Not so on Oasis where it's small venues and the shows happen throughout the week. It just seemed like it was more of a community on this ship.

  5. We are also just off Independence. We were on Oasis last year and Independence was better!! We just loved it! As far a dress code, we had My Time Dining on Deck 5. Formal Nights were formal. I did not see any shorts at all. A few in just dress shirts and ties, but for the most part, suits and nice dresses. I thought those on Independence were quite a bit more dressed up than on Oasis last year. There were 2 formal nights and 2 smart casual night. Not that many guys wore sport coats on the smart casual nights. My husband wore a dress shirt and tie and looked fine. (He wore a suit on formal nights.) On the 2nd smart casual night, you wouldn't notice a difference between that and regular casual nights. I think the 2nd smart casual caught people by surprise. It did us. On casual nights, most women wore summer dresses or capris. Guys wore docker style pants and polo shirts or casual short sleeve shirts. Lots of Hawaiian shirts on the guys too. A lot of smokers by the side of the pool they are allowed to smoke in. We had a lounge chair near them once and had to move. Also, on deck 4 (great for walking around if the track on deck 12 is too busy) a lot of people were smoking. All designated smoking areas so I didn't have a problem dealing with it. I never saw anyone smoking where they should not be.

  6. We just got off Independence Eastern today! Great cruise!! I could go on and on! We arrived at the port about 10:30am. We were on the ship at 11:00am. You won't be allowed in your room until 1:00pm, so if you want to swim prior to that, pack a bathing suit in a carry on and drag that around for the first couple of hours. Many people do that. If you have any specific questions, go ahead and ask.

  7. DO NOT WORRY! You will have no problem! We just got off Independence of the Seas today--Allure was parked nearby. I just want to make sure you understand a few things. To do the early embarkation where you carry off your luggage, you are allowed only 2 bags each. That doesn't sound like that will be a problem for you. (We had 2 bags each plus small carry on suitcases and that would have been too much.) They give you a form to fill out about the 2nd day of the cruise asking you if you want to be one of the first off the ship. This is what we did. We were in group 4. We went down to breakfast at 7am, got to our meeting spot at 7:45am. They were already up to group 20. As previous posters said--get a taxi. Do not get on a transfer bus. We shared a taxi with another couple in line and cost was only $13 plus our tip. Our flight out wasn't until 11:15am and we were at the airport already at 8:15am. Another way to save a little time is to check in at the curb with a porter rather than waiting in line at the Southwest desk. You'll have to tip a little, but this will also save you some time in line inside. Have a great trip!! I miss it all already!

  8. Can someone tell me the difference between these two Rain Forest hikes in San Juan? These are both through Royal Caribbean.

El Yunque Rainforest Hike - SJA8 Cost is $59

Rain Forest Nature Walk to Waterfall Adventure - SJ86 Cost is $99

Any information on either of these would be most appreciated. I tried asking on the Ports of Call board but no answers.
