A nice welcome after a long flight to paradise. The Intercontinental Tahiti is a great place to relax and get your battery charged. Easy to find your own little piece of paradise all to yourself ........ like in this photo.
The swim up bar is pretty cool too!

So excited for our cruises after dry Dock!! When we saw the itinerary while onboard our first PG cruise last April it was a no brained for us to book B2B right then to get best pricing. So glad we did. Have been on a cruise last one pre a dry dock on another line that wasn't so good but figured whether befor or after on PG would be perfect as they are a top notch line.
Looking forward to the exciting itinerary and all the time onboard enjoying the PG with other like minded people.

Due to dry dock, passengers will be able to enjoy an itinerary not usually offered to PG customers. We chose to take the return voyage in order to enjoy this itinerary.
I'm not worried about any delays since the PG will take care of us royally no matter what!!!
We are book on Bali to Fiji and the Fiji to Tahiti after dry dock. Flying in to Bali a few days ahead. If the ship gets delays coming out of dry dock will just have to enjoy Bali a few extra days...darn!

Been reading lots of nice comments about the Princess Ultimate Ship Tour. My twist - is there any recommendation for what NOT to do? I plan on signing up as soon as practical once on-board. Thanks in advance.
Honestly I can't think of what NOT to do as there is so much to choose from and everyone is different. I don't think i have done anything that I wouldn't do again.
I will say that as well as The Ultimate Ship Tour the other really NICE and ENJOYABLE extra special event you can attend if lucky to be picked and sign up quickly is The Chef's Table Dinner. Supper special. They did 3 of them on our cruise which was a 15 day. We did ours on the evening after we left Kauai. 10 People for each dinner were chosen.
Galley tour, lot's of time with the head chef, special appetizer tasting in the galley in a specially set up spot for us with an ice carving and some veggie/fruit carvings. Champagne and 5 different very nicely presented appetizers with the chef each time explaining them in detail and eating them with us.
Then back to the dining room to our specially set up table with a beautiful floral arrangement and extra pretty plates etc. Wine was served throughout and depending on what we ate different ones were paired. Nice Multi Course meal with each course fully explained & last minute fix ups done by the chef. It was very interactive, delicious and we felt we got our monies worth. I think it was $80.00 per person without wine & $95 with wine. They sent us each a signed cook book along with some photos of the group and each couple with the chef and matre'd as well as a plate of beautifully made chocolate that the pastry chef presented to us. It was an evening to remember.
Just like the Ultimate Tour need to sign up at the pursers desk early like as soon as you get on the ship to be put on a list. Then they send out letters with agreements and rules that we all needed to agree to like closed toed shoes, clean clothes, I will touch nothing in the kitchen and I am not sick. Then later we were send our invitation if we were chooses and which nite we would dine and were to meet. It was sort of like a covert mission we were going on.

No, they do not allow those confined to wheelchairs on the tour. This is due to the fact that in many places you have to go from one place to another via a narrow passage or a stairwell and it would be virtually impossible to navigate that route in a wheelchair.
While I enjoyed the UST that I went on very much, everyone should realize that things vary from ship to ship. The one I went on, we received one group photo, taken on the bridge, and the very nice terry robe. No other photos and no chef's jacket (don't know what the heck I would have done with that anyway! ) but it was still a great tour and I learned a lot on it. A bit pricey? Yeah, I guess, but I suspect that the price is designed to limit the number of people who would want to go on it were the price lower. One reason behind that, I would guess, would be the problem with having a number of groups of 20 people touring through working areas of the ship that might impact health (food service areas) and safety (laundry areas) of all involved. One or two groups might be doable, but more than that could cause problems in those or other areas.
Just supposition on my part.
Tom
We did the tour on The Grand and there were many times while going thru doorways in the inner sanctions of the ship that we had to step up and over about a 6 inch high part of the wall where the door opening began and there was no other way around it so yes unfortunately it would not have worked for wheelchairs or scooters.
We received several group photos, 8/10" picture frame, the robe, no kitchen jacket, an apron, cookbook and the personalized notepads made in the print shop. We did not have any food on our tour but did have a nice non alcoholic drink.

Definitely suggest you get Paul Theroux's book Happy Isles Of Oceania: Paddling The Pacific. It was written about 20 years ago but I think you'll find that what he did and what you are doing, are quite similar however his motivation and mode are likely different.
Theroux is an experienced and delightful travel writer - I bought this book while I was IN New Zealand (or Sydney - not sure) and wished I had found it prior to my Fiji visit. I'd have known I was better off heading to the Cook Islands - not to knock Fiji, it just would have worked out better on this trip for me to go to the Cooks. I love, loved the book.
Theroux essentially kayaked to/through 51 islands in French Polynesia, Micronesia, and beyond. When he couldn't kayak, he folded it up and boarded a small plane or freighter (the Aranui!) and he always visited the local people, participated in ceremonies and traditions etc. His stories were incredible, fascinating and he even used phrases in the local verbiage when it added "flavor" to the storytelling. I felt like I was on the journey the entire time.
The guide book I had bought, a traditional one, did not help me as much as this book did in preparing me for my visit to Fiji which I ended up cutting short because I didn't feel safe (I was traveling alone) and it takes A LOT for me not to feel safe - I'm pretty bold.
There's enough time until your cruise for you to find this book at your library - usually you can order it for you if they don't have it - and read it. I think based on the travel you do, you'd love this travel "memoir" set in the Pacific Islands. Let us know if you pick it up!
My husband & I will be visiting several islands in the area mid 2017. This book sounds perfect. Thanks.

Took this tour on the Hawaii cruise we just came off of. So worth doing. The Chefs table was also very very much worth doing.

When I was there with my aged mom several years back we rented a car. It was an easy drive from the Airport in Santiago to Valpariso. When dropped our car off at the rental place they drove us to the ship.

Want ed to try to book us and my inlays on this on our San Francisco Hawaii cruise this October. Great review and now I hope to get it booked and that there are enough others wanting to book it help it to happen. This and the Chefs table dinner will be 2 surprises for the In laws. We are taking them on this trip as our gift to them.

There wasn't enough wind to windsurf and don't think they offer water skiing any longer

Lots to choose from at different price points. I like the local art as well. I really wanted a tiki and planned on picking a small one somewhere along the route. We somehow ended up at the place on Moorea with the most amazing selection of Art in this back room. Ended up with a tattooed wooden tiki about 2 1/2 ft tall he's amazing! The shop people gave us a piece of luggage to bring him home in as he wasn't going to fit in any of ours. Between the big tiki and some other fun wooden carvers swords, paddles and the crazy reproduction of an ancient warrior "neck breaking" weapon we had some interesting packing to do on that last night on board.

Lots to do without paying for excursions. The water deck is often open (depending on weather and water conditions) to kayak and or paddle board from. Love that feature of this ship. You can tender on and off as many times as you like, walk around find a beach, shop, people watch etc or hang out on board and enjoy the amazing scenery from the ship.
