  1. We're  spoiled because we had 6 wonderful cruises on QM2 during her first 8 years at sea when she was at her most glorious, elegance and exceptional quality of service and food in MDR and buffet.  We were shocked at the changes on our July 2022 cruise. Service and food definately not up to QM2 old standards. But we feel the same has changed on other cruise lines we've been sailing on since 2010, except for Celebrity which has maintained excellence in service and food for our cruises since 2010.  We've been sailing on the Celebrity Summit out of Bayonne because we found same quality as QM2 for less money (meaning more cruises for us) and the convenience of sailing out of Bayonne as we only live 45 minutes from that port.  We love the QM2 but sad of her decline.   Guests who sailed on her in her glory days notice it the most.  We read about the refit so we've tentatively booked for November 2024 because we love going to the Caribbean on the QM2 and hoping that the reviews will show that service and food have improved, in addition to getting that awful rust off the balconies and elsewhere.  Also from reviews and our experience, too, embarkation out of Red Hook Brooklyn has been disastrous since 2019.  Seems to be the only port with hours of waiting to board with nowhere to sit and people passing out from standing so long.

Still, the QM2 is a beautiful and unique ocean liner and would hope many will enjoy having a chance to sail on her.

  2. Hopefully they will be taking care of a lot of rust we noticed on our July cruise last year.  I realize that the salt water causes this rust on the balconies, railings, etc. but of our 6 cruises, this was the first time we ever saw it that bad.

Would love it if they got rid of the cloth shower curtains but not hopeful.

  3. I read on some posts on another website that Celebrity has not been serving Beef Wellington.  Some say that beef choices have been cut back on the menus.  This in addition to paying extra now for a second lobster tail is really getting annoying.

Anyone else experiencing these types of food shortgages/less choices on Celebrity?

We're on Celebrity Summit in 4 months and hope that this is not the case then.  This is our 7th Celebrity cruise and will be disappointed if they are not up to their usual standards.

  4. Just saw you are back on board!   Glad to hear you're doing well and hope you both have a great time on this cruise.   We've been on the Silhouette.  Lovely ship but we still like M-Class better.  Heard that they're moving the Summit from Miami to Alaska in Spring 2024 and sailing an S-Class ship from Cape Liberty!  If you have time, could you please check if Celebrity is planning any M-Class ships out of Cape Liberty in 2024 or 2025?  Thanks so much.

Looking forward to following your cruise.  Your insights and photos are wonderful!   Bon Voyage.

  5. When you go to Bar Harbor there's a cute gift shop named Sea Dawg on West Street near the tender piers that sells homemade catnip toys.  I buy them whenever I cruise to Bar Harbor because my fur babies love them.

Also, fun thing to do in Bar Harbor is the walkway (land bridge) at low tide to a nearby island from Bridge Street.  Make sure you walk back before the tide comes in. Or you're stuck on the island.

  6. Thanks for your thoughts on the ship.  We love the Summit and surprised Captain, senior officers not out and about as usual.  We sailed this May but you have a different captain on board now.

I agree with your assessment of Kelly Hoppin's many ship design faux pas.  She designed furniture with sharp corners in the veranda cabins.  We bring corner guards to put on them in case we bang into them.  Also, one bedside lamp is up on the wall and you have to get out of bed to turn it off.  One closet is too short and our shirts drag on the bottom.   We love the glass door in the shower though.
