The web site mentions being able to make off-ship calls from within the app to the US for $0.79/minute. If we need to call home for some reason, it's less expensive than $4.99/minute from the stateroom phone.  Has anyone tried that feature?

My husband and I have cruised many times but this will be our first NCL cruise. We will be sailing on the Escape at the end of June with a group of 17. We have all downloaded the Cruise Norwegian App and it works great from home to make dinner reservations and book shore excursions. We are thinking of purchasing the Phone and Messenger Package so we can keep in touch with our group while on board as well as make phone calls home if needed. 

My question is... how well does this app really work while on board, particularly on sea days? Does it work as advertised?

For us, it's "pancake" in the buffet at breakfast. There are never "pancakes", just "pancake". Obviously, something is lost in translation. lol What weird little oddities have you noticed?

I forget now which ship it was but my husband and I were looking for something simple for lunch, like a tuna salad sandwich. We saw some pre-wrapped sandwiches and one of the signs read... “Veal in tuna sauce”. Perplexed, I grabbed one and it turned out to be the desired tuna salad sandwich. Talk about “lost in translation”!

Ah, finally, a refreshingly positive post to reply to! My DH and I also have cruised Princess 27 times with 3 more upcoming. We’ve tried Celebrity, RCCL and NCL but Princess is our go-to line. Everytime I step foot on a Princess ship I feel like I’m home :).

We just returned from a Royal Princess cruise on March 3. We were able to purchase the unlimited soda only package on board and they placed the red stickers on our cruise cards. The cost was $51.75 per person including gratuity for the 10-day cruise. The usual insulated Coke cups were provided.

He was on Coral Princess (Panama Canal) in March 2015.

Our first cruise was in Alaska on Sun Princess 5/24-5/31 1997. Even before the end of the cruise we were thoroughly hooked and wondered where and when we could go again. We have been on 22 cruises since with another coming up in October. I have to laugh now when I think we came very close to missing the ship but being "newbies" we were blissfully unaware. We had taken the Quick Coach from Seattle to Vancouver which was delayed at the border crossing. The bus dropped us off at the pier about 4:00 and they were waiting for us to check in. We barely got to our cabin and it was time for the muster drill. What did we know? But for every cruise since I make sure we leave plenty of time!

My DH and I live in NJ but we worked in the City. My office was on 34th and 8th with a beautiful view of downtown and the Statue of Liberty - until 9/11. Fortunately we both got back home to NJ but it was very surreal. We had a cruise scheduled for 9/30 in Royal Princess out of Manhattan and we thought it might not happen. But Princess adjusted the itinerary and bussed us from NY to Boston where we stayed overnight before sailing on Oct 1. We had wonderful people at our dinner table (3 couples from Australia) who were so kind. The cruise was great and relaxing, just what we needed. Princess handled everything well given the situation. We had no problems returning home but the airport security, as expected, was tighter than it ever had been. New world.

I know this thread is about 9/11 but I just have to add this. A few years later we booked a cruise with friends we had met on our Alaska cruise in 1997. It was a 14-day roundtrip from Southampton to the British Isles and Iceland. We flew in a few days early to spend a time at their home and touring London before the cruise. We arrived on 7/7/2005 - the day of the London bombing! Needless to say we never got to tour London. We were all glued to their TV watching the news. It was like 9/11 all over again. Fortunately the we still made it to the cruise and we had an excellent time. Naturally security at Gatwick on the way home was on high alert but the flight was fine. It was very good to get home.
