We have to test 24hrs before our UK to USA flight and we board the ship the following day so that test will meet the criteria of the ship and we won’t need to test at port. Its nerve racking but at least we would find out before leaving the UK!

May I ask how / where you will do your testing before your flight? We will need to do this also for our flight home to USA from Edinburgh in May. I haven't yet zeroed in on where we will have this done. I have considered a test kit brought from home to do in our hotel night before our flight. Thank you for yours or anyones advice or input.

There are different types of tours. I am going to be doing an Outlander walking tour in Edinburgh. Basically it puts the story into the actual historic places. There are also 1-day and multi day tours that take you out of town; they seem to concentrate more on filming locations, althoughI’m sure they cover some of the history.

Was the Outlander walking tour on your own or with a guide? Thank you

It will almost certainly be Waterloo Place at the end of Princes Street. From there it is very easy to get to the hop-on, hop-off stop, the Royal Mile, the (250 year old) New Town and the buses for the Royal yacht, Rosslyn Chapel etc

However there are many much cheaper ways of getting into Edinburgh which are pretty easy .Which port are you docking at?

I'll be docking at Newhaven Sept. 2020 on Norwegian Star...looking for good way to get to the Castle and from there we plan to walk.    Thank you to anyone who has info...most info I'm seeing is from Queensferry.

  4. Hello!  My first Norwegian cruise is coming up on Epic March 16 and I am wondering how the coffee is ...where to get the best cup?  I have taken instant Starbucks on my Princess and Royal Caribbean cruises in the past but, hoping to hear that the coffee is good on Norwegian?!  TIA

We love Modenro's but it seems like they are struggling and some of the ships have taken it out for other restaurants. The salad bar is great and we have been very happy with the meat selection. Some think it is too rare, others not rare enough. WE have always asked for the beef to be rare and have gotten it that way. We do this at the very start of the meal.

I can't wait to try it!  Thanks for your reply!

We love Moderno.  A warning though don't eat too much from the salad area before you get the meat!!!  Another warning make sure you try the Seafood Chowder but again not too much.

Try to keep a "menu" on your table so you can see what you haven't tried.  Make up your minds of what you want to try and refuse the others till you have been through the ones you do want.

The garlic potato and the plantains are wonderful but again don't have too much.

It sounds fabulous! Thanks for the recommendations...We will have to try to pace ourselves!  I LOVE plantains!

I had something weird happen yesterday.  I made my final payment at the beginning of Dec.  I happened to log on to my account yesterday and it said make your final payment.  I clicked and it said there was .02 due.  I pulled out my original booking and what I paid and it all equaled 0.  Paid in full.   It doesn't look like the fare was increased so I have no idea were the .02 came from.  I was on hold forever and gave up and made the payment.   Anyone else have this happen?

Same thing happened to me!  I called Norwegian and asked if they needed me to pay the .2 now even though I had a receipt for the amount I paid as final payment. They said no I didn't need to pay it.  lol, wierd though!

  8. When we were in Alaska (2012) instead of taking the train with hundreds of other people, we rented a Jeep from Green Jeep Tours. This is a self-guided (and driven) tour that includes a CD to narrate the trip. They even included a cooler w/snacks and drinks. You go at your own pace. At times the road parallels the railroad. We stopped when we wanted for pictures, etc. We were able to get ahead of the numerous tour buses. It was great. There is really only one place to stop for food and gas (Carcross). Just beyond that is Emerald Lake--very beautiful.

We also did the Green Jeep Tour in June of last year and I highly recommend that as an alternative to the train. Go all the way to Emerald Lake to see such beauty! We did the steam engine ride in 2014, which was also great but, being able to stop for pics on your own was a lot of fun!

  9. Same here....we're on Crown Princess in November 2018 and the email has me excited! We've taken a Princess cruise every year for the past 4 years and love their ships. I for the life of me can't understand why people complain about the way things used to be or the way things are now or whether or not the pizza is good or the dining options, etc etc etc. I guess I'm just not picky when it comes to a cruise. Our 10 days in November will be our highlight of the year. I never look for 'bad' things on a cruise. Sometimes I wonder why I read CruiseCritic at all.......I certainly don't let what someone says about a ship alter my expectations of a cruise. Sure, sometimes things happen but I don't dwell on it. Any cruise is a good cruise for me (fire up your flame guns now). Most passengers on the ships we have been on have never heard of 'Cruise Critic'.

I also got the email and am so excited to see the improvements! We sail for the first time on Crown Princess May 2019...the British Isles!! Our first Princess cruise was summer 2017 Alaska Glacier cruise. Loved it, love Princess!

  10. Hi Patti—

My cruise isn’t until the end of May but others have chimed in about their long-term use. Of the Reliefband, which is encouraging to me.

Yes, I do get motion sick, since early childhood. For cruising, I start meds at night about 3 days before cruise; I has read this top on CC as doing this gets the Dramamine or Bonine into the system; side benefit if it’s the regular drowsy-type, then it helps with sleep those nights just before a cruise! Then I use only the non-drowsy med while onboard (it still makes me sleepy) with a whole one at bedtime and possibly a 1/4 or 1/3 piece during the day if seas are more than I like. This system of keeping some medicine in my system the whole cruise seems to help; I’ve learned the hard way not to quit taking it even if seas are flat because when the seas change, the meds don’t work fast enough for me.

I like the idea of the band as I could wear it all the time, even if it’s turned off, and it will work almost instantaneously (so they say) when I need it. Then I can have wine at dinner and not sleep through the evening show!!

I understand the sleepy after dinner problem! :wine-glass::wine-glass: I think I will try the band...I'll never know unless I try them. Thank you for your reply!

  11. There is an actual electronic product called “Reliefband” that isn’t available on the ship (unless things have changed since this past Jan). I think the ship’s only see the stretchy or Velcro bands that have a little plastic ball to place on the point inside your wrist; they’re also available in your local big box stores and pharmacies.

I use the Velcro type from time to time but mostly rely on bonine. I’m thinking of seeing if I can get an Rx for the Reliefband so I could use FSA funds; would love to not have to take pills!!

If you get the relief band, I would love to know after your cruise how they worked for you. Are you prone to motion sickness? I am and I have used 1/2 non sleepy Dramamine (they still make me sleepy) taken at night. This has worked for me fir 3 cruises, not to get seasick. I would like to not take the meds but, afraid not too! Thanks for any advice and info!
