  1. There are also some more specialised fx conversion places in London including near tourist locations such as Victoria station. Eg Thomas exchange global. Worth looking on http://www.travelmoneymax.com and choose the collection option. I suspect they may avoid a double whammy conversion if you did want to go CAD to EUR. I have used them in the past for GBP to a range of currencies including usd and roubles.

  2. The flight into Birmingham was much more expensive than the flight into Heathrow. Because of that, the company will pick up the car service but probably not the car rental. Renting a car in Birmingham and dropping it off at Heathrow is an option on the return, and we’d have a car to explore the Cotswolds. That part of the trip is on me.

Gotcha. Well I’d check the cost of a one way rental vs just hiring for your Birmingham travel. You might want to check rental from Birmingham airport which is an easy train from the centre (station Birmingham international) as airport rental could be cheaper.

Train Birmingham to London is easy (and you won’t want to drive into central London so you’ll have to do the Heathrow to London bit anyway).

  3. Why not rent a car from Heathrow for the trip up to Tamworth? Trains tend to need to go via London for your route which as you say isn’t very convenient. I assume you can’t fly into Birmingham?

If you did that you could drive back and drop car at Heathrow then express it to Paddington.

Otherwise train Birmingham to London is decent (make sure you get the virgin one to Euston if time a factor - there is a slower service from moor street station in Birmingham to Marlylebone). If you prebook travel it should be inexpensive if you miss the early morning times but bear in mind you have to get the specific booked train. First class more comfortable and often not too much more expensive. Try looking on http://www.thetrainline.com to book tickets.

  4. Thank you for this feedback. Were you able to pre-book/purchase your tickets ahead of time? Were you able to choose the time of departure? How did you go about it? Sorry for all the questions. I went to their website, sent them a couple of messages, provided all pertinent info, but no reply back as yet, it has been three days. Will continue to wait, hopefully someone will get back to my inquiry/request.

    Many thanks in advance.

Hi we put a booking through on the website directly a week or so ahead of the cruise Looks like they have changed the form a bit but they had a separate from cruise option. I don’t think we had to select time as it was a pick up from the ship so I guess they knew the time.

Got a call the next day to confirm details.

On the da6 we docked a van was waiting outside the terminal and just handed the bags over, watched them get tagged then got the bus into the centre of Copenhagen for the day.

    Have you heard back yet?

  5. Hi

Quick question, does anyone know if you can 'wrap around' at the very back of deck 6 on the Magic. I.e. can you go down the port side, go past room 6154 and then (without going back to the aft elevator lobby) get to 6654 and work your way forward on the starboard side? The deck plan shows a grey strip between the two corridors at the back.

Reason for asking is considering a cruise where one party may have 6152 and the other 6652 and wanted to know how "close" the rooms will effectively be.

    Thanks

    Andrew

  6. There's a spot on their page that says 'cruise passengers email us' (or something similar). When I emailed them they said it was a service they are offering. It may be new or have limited availability. You could try emailing them to see if it's available when you're interested.

Thanks this is super useful I hadn't thought there would be a service like this. On the webpage on the menu there is an option for cruise passengers.

  7. So I've been following up on our reservation having still heard nothing. Hilton have been less than useless and will be getting a letter of complaint.

However I ended up speaking to the front desk supervisor who confirmed:

    - bookings (including Hilton honors reservations on points) are being honoured. Not a surprise but good to confirm

    - the new owners have "recently" agreed that on check in there will also be status matching for Hilton honors members to the equivalent Clarion level and hence the in property benefits you will get are broadly similar

I also noted the hotel is already listed on the clarion website and per the website breakfast and wifi is included as standard whereas for the Hilton you needed status to get these for free.

    Hope this helps someone.

  8. hi all

Had a quick look and couldn't see that this was answered. Last time we cruised was before the change in policy on signing things via GS so I didn't pay attention at our character breakfast but does anyone know if you can ask the characters to sign at the breakfast now? This will be a European cruise on the Magic if relevant.

    Thanks

    Andrew

  9. I noticed this morning there is now a message stating "Please note that as of 31st March 2017, Hilton Copenhagen Airport will cease to operate as a Hilton hotel. As a result, stays booked past this date will not accrue Hilton Honors points. Please contact the hotel direct in case of any questions." when you try and book rooms. However I could still book post 1 April on my Hilton corporate account code so I suspect they will honour the booking.

I did have this happen once before at a different hotel with Marriott and they also honoured the booking.

I really don't want to have to move to a backup hotel as that would be $1500+ instead of free on points!!

  10. Point 1: Yeah, that's pretty much what I figured, which is why I went ahead and bought train tix. I understand the impulse to maintain a positive party line, but it's always better to just tell the truth and deal with the situation. What was the benefit of telling you that all was well in that situation? Just bad form and bad business.

Point 2: Agreed. Oddly I called back and they confirmed that number. Not sure what the significance of that is. This time she transferred me to Embarkation Services directly, so it didn't really matter.

Embarkation Services told me that her managers had driven the route from London to Dover today and it took just over 3 hours, where it is normally a 2-2.5hr drive. Accordingly, they are making no changes to the bus transportation. Also, the transfer tickets are non-refundable, which wasn't too surprising.

Re the number you need to do the double zero at the front I think - that makes it an international freephone Number.
