  1. Carnival gift cards are NOT reloadable. Carnival will mail you a gift card with the amount on it.

    Carnival Gift Card

We accept the Carnival Gift Card as a form of payment (USD only) for your cruise reservation, online shore excursion purchases, spa service purchases and Fun Shop gift purchases as well as deposit toward your onboard Sail & Sign account. At this time, we are not able to accept the Carnival Gift Card to purchase gift orders by telephone order.

If you use your Carnival Gift Card and then later cancel, any refund due back will be sent in the form of a new Carnival Gift Card. It will be mailed to the address on the booking profile and take 5-10 business days. If the booking was made through a travel agency, we will need to obtain your address in order to mail out a new Carnival Gift Card.

I don't know about this. When I cancelled, I was told that it would be put back on the original gift card. I didn't keep any of them, so I practically had to beg to have them send me a new card. It took several weeks and several phone calls, but they finally did. It was a hassle.

  2. Definitely go the day before. I am on the breeze in 30 days! I got a hotel near Houston Hobby, will walk across the street to the convenience store to get pop. We will then go back to the airport on the day of the cruise and catch our shuttle to Galveston. That way was cheaper for two of us. Uber might be cheaper for 5 of you. You should be able to board at the same time.

  3. As you are not the op your experience isn't relevant

I'm honestly interested in how this person missed such a vital tidbit

I totally agree. I'm 30 days out and I've gotten all of my documents ready to cruise. I would never wait until the day before.

  4. I was also supposed to cruise the Vista today (Sep 09) and from my understanding, if you choose not to take the shortened 5 day cruise on Tuesday the 12th, you will get a refund of the port fees / taxes plus pre paid gratuities (if you paid them up front. Also a refund for any beverage plans or excursions. The base fare will end up being a "future cruise credit" and can only be used on a future Carnival cruise within a certain time frame. I have no intention on trying to get into Miami under who knows what kind of conditions to take the shortened 5 day cruise. I too will get a future cruise credit for my base fare, the only problem is that all of the Vista sailings for the near future, and even a year from now are significantly more expensive than I paid for the missed sailing. That means I would have to give Carnival even more of my hard earned vacation dollars. I am just going to cut my losses at the cruise fare and move on. The bean counters at Carnival can stuff that future cruise credit where the sun shines least...

  5. Now, wait a minute. A relative can certainly scam a family member. Happens all the time. It's what the family person getting scammed does with that makes the difference. Sounds like you would just brush it off. Not everyone is so forgiving (or gullible?).

Gullible....I think that's the right word.

  6. OP - I gotta disagree - I don't think SteveFrisco's advice is good at all. Perhaps he doesn't understand what is going on here - but leopards don't change their spots. And paying someone in any form - not because you want to but because you what them to do something for you, including maintaining a relationship - is either and employer/employee relationship or prostitution, neither of which fit in the definition of family.

There are many flags in your posts about these family members from their initial financial choice (to get into so much debt), to incur addition debt to cruise, and now not paying, that should make you take a long hard look about putting any effort into maintaining a relationship. Cancel the cruise for them and watch what happens - you will be the bad guy. Tell's you something, doesn't it?

I agree with this. I would still cancel them.

  7. Do you think Airplane mode would be okay when we want to take pictures with our phones?

Well really just keep in touch with our family via Facebook, that's all we really need to do.

Airplane mode works perfectly. If you get the internet package on the ship you can still use it in airplane mode.
