Wow, When TA's don't want to book Princess cruises, It is serious!!!  I don't blame the TA though, why try to spend hours on the phone and not get anywhere.  I know, it's their job, but I guess if it is continually taking all their time to get a cruise booked properly and they aren't getting paid enough for the frustration.   Princess needs to wake up!!!!

Oh he'll book the cruise...he just doesn't want to spend hours on hold and then speaking with someone who has no info.

Today it took 3 call backs and over one hour to be told they couldn't help me.  Terrible hold music, too!

I tried the number for my vacation planner.  She's out of the office for a week.

As a shareholder, I hope Princess is saving one hell of a lot of money switching to a few folks in the Philippines who are hard to understand and who have no info.

  2. Trying to speak to someone at Princess this morning...had 2 call backs so far and both of them were hard to understand - then the line went dead.  I think they just hang up.  I book through a TA but he says it takes him hours to speak to anyone and he doesn't want to try calling any more.

It's getting ridiculous. Sure wish I had a number for someone who is actually in Santa Clarita!

Sounds like an odd experience to me.  Which ship?  They are still taking walk-ups and other reports have indicated they ask people (encouragingly I believe) if they want to share. I believe they are still putting together folks like that. Just realize it is going to most likely be a different group of folks in a different location each night - unless the entire table agrees wants to continue at the same time and the DR staff can actually block it in.

Royal Princess to Hawaii over Christmas.  It was especially galling because I heard the couple in front of me say they were happy to share.  They were told, "That's ok we have a nice table for 2 for you."  Then when I asked to share I was told there were no shared tables that late in the evening (7:15).  I was told to come by 6:00 if I wanted to share.

I later spoke to the HGM but was told nothing could be done.

This only happened one night because I was traveling with a girlfriend.  She skipped dinner this one night.  We usually ended up eating together but would have much preferred dining with others.

  4. I'm a solo cruiser who likes to dine at a shared table every night around 7 or 7:30.  On my last cruise, this didn't work at all.  I was told I have to dine earlier to have a chance to be seated at a shared table.  One evening, since I didn't want to dine alone, I ended up having a hot dog for dinner up on deck.  Very disappointing.

I believe I'll have to go back to Cunard if I don't want to eat at 5 or 6 and don't want to dine alone.

Sure wish Princess would change this policy.

  5. Hey Trapper - I think we are gonna pass.  I've been there a few times and know my way around and have some idea what I want to see.  I like to collect sea glass, so, last time, I took the ferry and a public bus and went to Glass Beach.   Wonder if there is any glass left?   In 2015 some American woman tried to haul 70 pounds of the stuff home in her suitcase!

Hope you get 6 more to sign up!

  6. Long time Princess cruiser here…

Free internet gone, on board loyalty credit gone, maybe Captains Circle party and most travelled lunch gone, last small ship gone…

10% discount on things I don’t buy is no compensation.

    I’m looking at other lines.🙁

  7. I just want to chime in to say I did it twice..once in Morocco and once in Estonia. Both experiences were great and Princess made it very easy.

In Morocco we got off in Agadir, had a car and driver waiting for us, spent the night in Marrakesh, rejoined the ship in Casablanca.

In Tallinn, Estonia we left the ship for 2 nights and re-boarded when it returned.

    No regrets.:)

  8. First, make sure that you have a few tools on your phone or tablet - I recommend your airline's app and either Flight Stats or Flight Aware. The combination of these sites will give you updates about your flight status before your gate agents even know. A modest delay for a mechanical is tolerable - but when you first learn of it is when you need to start making a back-up plan. Things to check: when's the next flight on your airline to your destination and does it meet your timing needs. If not start looking at other airlines and identify flights that would work. Are those flights on time? If things go south with your mechanical - like they're flying in a mechanic and part (or they'er driving it across the airport from the hangar) - that's when you bail. Don't wait until the end. Ask to be booked over on one of your identified back-ups. Insist they book you over to another airline if necessary. Through those apps you can also check where your inbound plane is coming from and whether it's on time. Airlines often do not post delays even though they know an inbound aircraft will arrive too late to turnaround in the alotted time.

Thanks for this advice...I plan to get those apps.

  9. Hi Jennifer - I remember that the caches in Skagway were especially fun and there were quite a few that were easy to walk to. Have fun!

    geospyder - wow - 50 countries! That's impressive.

I like caching on a cruise because you never know what you might see...often out of the way, interesting spots.

  10. Bumping this thread to see if anyone has done any caches in Bermuda, and if so, what was your experience? I see there are a lot of them.

Hi Christina - I was there 4 years ago and only managed to find one - by the Royal Naval Dockyards. Looked for another near the ship but didn't have any luck and we had to hurry to be back on board. You should have a great time - beautiful place and lots of caches to be found! I want to go back!

    Cheers!

  11. Here are a few good ones - close by and interesting. Have fun!

    the Mountain King - Juneau

    Juneau Coin & Token Reserve

Bin Caching TB Hotel - Ketchikan

Ladybug's Skagway Travel Bug/Coin Exchange Cache

    Klondike KD - Skagway

  12. Hi CruiseCacher - we were on a small ship - 600 pax so I thought the turn out was OK. It was listed in the Princess Patter. Some folks had cached, some had friends who cached, all knew something about caching. I was hoping to meet some experienced cachers since we just started this year, but that didn't happen. Yes, I'd go hear a talk on geocaching. Much more interesting than living trusts!

Good luck if you do decide to do a presentation.

    Cheers,

    Dee

  13. We just got home from a long cruise where we geocached in Vietnam, Spain, Norway, The Faroe Islands, Iceland, and Newfoundland. I loaded the coordinates before we left and used our Kindle to access the web for clues if we had trouble finding the cache. It worked pretty well.

Our next cruise is Alaska and we'll try there, too.

We asked the CD on the cruise for a Geocache get together. About a dozen folks showed up and we had a good chat. Mostly, people were interested in getting more info. I think we were the only ones who were caching.

While Geocaching we saw some great, non touristy, places.

    Cheers, Dee and John
