  1. Does NCL notify you if your bid is not accepted? Also, how close to sailing are you notified if accepted (or denied)? Thanks

We booked our Hawaiian Islands/Pride of America cruise on 3/18/18. I received the upgrade email on 3/28/18. I placed my bid the same day. I received an email saying we’d won on 4/5/18. We sail on 5/19/18 (next Friday)

  2. I love Turo and will be renting cars using the app in Maui and Kauai. It was MUCH cheaper to get a convertible and a Jeep this way vs. the rental car companies on these two islands.

  3. I spent a week on Kauai in 2009 and went to the Smith Family Luau. It was longer than I'd anticipated - my fault for not doing much research beforehand. It's fun to say I've been to a Hawaiian luau, but it's not something I'd necessarily care to do again, unless I was with a group who wanted to go. I'll be in Hawaii for 10 days next month and don't have intentions on going to another. :-)

  4. I was very shocked that they upgraded us 6 weeks out. I only bid $200! Knowing how port intensive this itinerary is, and having spent just as much on the airfare as we did the cruise, I though I'd try to save a couple thousand and do an inside cabin. I checked online and saw they had a lot of balcony rooms and not a lot of inside cabins, so I'm assuming that's why. And it's our first NCL cruise, so I thought that may have something to do with it? Maybe to try to sway us from Carnival - which wouldn't take much. :')

I thought I saw that it was a connecting room. I'm hoping you're right. We had a connecting room on our last cruise with a group of loud away-from-their-husbands-and-in-party-mode ladies next door. It was a little much, but we're all there to have a good time, so hearing the ladies' drunken conversations was more comical than bothersome. :p

  5. We're in cabin 10112 next month. How were your experiences? We were just upgraded to this room from an inside cabin on Deck 4, so we're pretty excited. On other cruises, I've usually been able to find photos of the room or a review, but not having any luck on the POA. Thanks! :D:D:)

  6. Just curious why the turn around at Lindquist versus continuing on around through Red Hook and the south coast. Soem great lunch spots in Red Hook and Secret Harbor is a good stop too.

Thanks, Crewsweeper! I've added Secret Harbor to the route. We've been through Red Hook before but haven't stopped. We'll be sure to do it this time. Thanks for the info!

    Have a great day,

    Brad

  7. Thanks for posting this. We will be cruising 4/29. Wondering if it makes sense to take a cab to one Beach or rent a car and explore.

Do you have approx cost break down?

Rhem- I'm not sure of the cost of a taxi, but a 4-door Jeep with tax and gas usually runs us about $150. We've had an economy car that ran about $95 with tax and gas refill. If you're up for an adventure, it's hands down cheaper than doing something similar through an excursion.

    Enjoy your trip!

    Brad
