i wrote to my travel agent and asked her to triple check with NCL and, if necessary move us.  Like I said, it’s weird but everyone has his/her/their preferences and this is ours.  To us, it makes it so much easier to cope with having two adults in a small place.  Plus we love sleeping with the balcony door open. 

Ok, a bit of an odd question but after 35+ cruises, and 5 on NCL my husband and I have concluded that the most important cabin feature to us is having the bed by the balcony door, rather than having it closer to the cabin door.   To us, that makes it much easier to get around, not having to go around the bed. 
 

So, today I booked cabin 10586 (Cat BA) on 

a 12/21/21 cruise on the Jade, a ship we have been on before and liked.   I asked our travel agent to make sure about the bed placement so she said she looked up cabin photos and the bed is by the balcony.  But I looked up photos, too, and I see the opposite. 
 

Does anyone know for sure?  Or does anyone know how to figure out which cabins have which placement.  I know how to figure it out on Celebrity, but except for Epic, with its curvy walls, I cannot figure out NCL.

Not exactly - the State Department’s Office of Citizen Services is the best guide.  They run the SMARTTraveller program and manage travel warnings. 

I had a studio on the Escape in May.  I loved every single thing about it.  I agree with everyone who says to get one on the same deck as the lounge.   Mine was perfect - not too close to be bothered by noise and not too far that I couldn’t run over in my pj’s for coffee and a croissant.  

Also, it was nice to be on that level the times our singles’ dinner group went straight from the 5 pm get together to dinner - I didn’t delay the group when I zoomed to my cabin to grab my handbag...

We are!  We’re from Seattle.   Our daughter lives in the Outer Sunset... but she is grown up and married now and not going. 

I, too, am watching this closely as we are on the holiday cruise this December that ends in HK.   (SF - are you on our sailing?)

From my point of view, there are TWO completely different issues.

First, is the issue of people worrying about safety in HK - which  is not my concern right now  at all.   I am not even slightly worried about that.  Frankly, the Chinese are too totalitarian to tolerate letting dissent affect tourism. 

But I I do think it’s legit to worry about Celebrity or airlines rerouting us.   It will be interesting to see if they change the final port.... Macao?  Stay in Vietnam?  I dunno. 

I retired  five years ago from the State Department’s Foreign Service after 25 years.   I had two assignments in crisis management and several overseas jobs in which I was the person at the Embassy that helped US citizens in difficulties.  I also did two tours in the office that issues travel warnings - and, yes - I was indeed working in that job on 9/11.  And, yes - Americans were stuck all over the world.  They were safe, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a huge logistical mess. 

So, I thought I should say that in my mind, it’s worth separating the issues of personal safety and travel hassle.   Like I said, I am not worried about the former, but I can tell you that if there is a chance that Celebrity’s insurers tell them they cannot dock or if airlines like Cathay Pacific continue to have cancellations, we may have real difficulties.  

NB:  I am retired, so that’s not the official word.  Please, please, please consult your own foreign offices or the US State Department directly.  I will tell you that State doesn’t put out travel warnings lightly - a ton of work and clearances go into them so I would heed them. 

BTW, I am headed to Beijing from HK on United FF miles afterward and then doing a big solo trip til January 21, when I am supposed to fly from HK using BA frequent flier miles on Cathay Pacific.  My husband still works and has to get home too soon.   He is leaving from HK at the end of the cruise on a revenue ticket for Singapore on SingaporeAir.  Of course, we will continue to watch all these moving parts carefully and I will post more if I hear anything from Celebrity or any of the various airlines.

Does anyone know the price? I see references to $100 per couple...is that still correct?

We are looking into our first Celebrity cruise a year from now -- next April 2006. We're thinking about the 14 day roundtrip from LA to Hawaii. I would be very, very grateful if anyone doing that cruise this year would comment on the kids club. I guess my worry is that the long itinerary may mean there aren't many kids aboard, even though it is Spring Break. My daughter will be 10 and loves arts & crafts, games, etc. I just want to be sure that she will have a good time, too (We know we will love the Summit!)

If anyone has the kids program schedule for the Ensigns for the 14 day Hawaii trip, I would jump for joy!
