  1. Hi all,

I'll be in arriving in the port of curacao on January 23, 2022 from 8 AM - 8 PM and looking for suggestions on what to do.  I couldn't find any recent posts since cruising has re-opened.  Please share your ideas.

    TIA,

    Jenny

  2. I'm enjoying your review and pictures. It is so much work and I look forward to catching up on your pics each evening.:)

We are heading from the east coast to Seattle and then to Anchorageon Saturday. Then we catch the cruise on Monday. How long did it take to get through security at the airport in Seattle? We are flying to Seattle on Southwest and then have to get our luggage and then recheck our luggage with Delta and go through security. I want to make sure we have enough time between flights. Thanks!

  3. We were on the Sun June 27 - July 4. We had a midship - forward balcony (9026) and didn't have any issues with our room. I occasionally detected a faint odor in the aft stairwell (and we used that stairwell a lot as we'd just walk to the back of the ship and then go up to the garden cafe or specialty restaurants or down to the theatre or the Seven Seas). We usually ate in the Seven Seas and didn't notice it in the dining room. We didn't notice it in the theatre either once we were seated. Nor in the outside buffet up top but it was typically pretty breezy there.

I will say that the only day that it was even strong enough to bother me was our day in Skagway (I think). I noticed as we approached the ship (it was a long walk up the pier) from the back that there were huge vents on the back at the level of Deck 7 (so above the Deck 6 promenade and below the Deck 8 aft balconies). One of the vents was removed and I could see workers up there on the side by the vents. There was smoke (not a lot, maybe not smoke, possibly steam?) coming from that area and the smell was noticeable as we walked by and then on the ship that evening, but again, I only detected it to any degree in the stair well. I didn't know anyone with an aft cabin so I don't know if it was worse there.

I will say that everyone keeps talking about a sewage odor, it didn't smell like sewage to me, more just like burnt refuse. Not pleasant but I felt the issue, at least in the public areas, has been blown way out of proportion.

I really enjoyed the Sun, she is an elegant ship and although our sailing was full she never felt crowded (except for the buffet which we mostly avoided except the outdoor part early in the mornings). We loved our balcony.

It might be prudent to avoid the aft balconies for the time being but don't fret too much about the public areas being affected. I loved all the open decks up top on the Sun and the sheltered Deck 6 promenade. Those features are important on an Alaskan cruise and I've gotten the impression that the newer ships have sacrificed those areas for more bells & whistles.

Thank you for the update. We are sailing on Monday 7/16. Our group has 3 balconies on deck 8 in the back. I hope everything is resolved. I appreciate your response!

  4. We had the most wonderful cruise on the NCL Sun! We stayed in a forward facing penthouse romance suite. The room was huge, the bathroom and walk in closet as large as the room, and there was not too much wind on the balcony, we spent quite a bit of time there as the scenery and wildlife were breathtaking. Our butler Jomar, concierge Carlos, and steward Michael were very nice and made us feel spoiled.

We did not use the buffet at all. We took advantage of the suite dining area at La Cucina for many breakfasts and lunches and had lunch in the main dining room twice. Having the dining package, we ate at Moderno (big disappointment) La Cucina, Cagneys and La Bistro, the tapas bar and the sports bar for fantastic dinners.

The seas were 8-12's on Tuesday night and it was pretty rough, drawers were opening and things were moving around and it rained. But it was the perfect cruise for us weather wise, sunny in all ports and only sprinkles one other time.

The captain announced that we could not go to Sawyer Glacier due to too much ice. Instead, we went to Endicott Arm Fjord to another glacier (I'm sorry I never did catch the name of it) and it was absolutely beautiful! We had met the captain at the VIP cocktail party on Tuesday, he was very nice.

We tendered in Juneau. Being a suite passenger, we had priority tendering and were taken by the concierge down the secret passage and had no wait to get off the ship. Same thing when we were ready to disembark, we bypassed the wait. That was cool.

I saw someone asked about laundry service, I have a flyer that was in the dailies that shows one full bag for only $19.95. Hope that helps.

Our luggage did not make it home with us but has finally caught up with us. I am not able to scan the dailies as pictures but have them in a zip file in PDF format if you need them, just let me know I'll be glad to email them to you.

Sorry I am too busy at work to do a detailed review, but I'll be glad to try and answer any questions. There was no wait for drinks at any time for us (Yes, UBP)... Gosh, it was just all so good that it's hard to squeeze it all into a few paragraphs and I'm jealous of those of you who will be on the Sun this summer, I wanna go again! :)

I'd love to see copies of the dailies if you could email them to jenjum@verizon.net.

    THANKS
