Thank goodness we left SF Bay Area on Wednesday to drive down as the I5 HWY was closed in both directions due to flash floods and mudslides on Thursday.
We are at the Doubletree. I have seen a steady flow of our fellow cruisers as they arrive. Let's get the party started.

Bob,
We missed Newfoundland last year on the Royal Princess TA. Same thing, the winds were too high. We waited in Halifax for a Celebrity ship to leave and then took her berth for our overnight stay.

As I sat at breakfast on disembarkemnt day, a woman next to me said that she couldn't wait to have some potato chips when she got home. It made me think what I would love to have when I got home.
An Italian sausage sandwich with jack cheese, onions, green peppers and hot sauce.
What if anything did you crave?

Thank You Irishjayne I rebooked to the Ruby this morning. Looked at some Utube of both and you could see the age of the Grand in the cabins. Looking forward to a no fly trip to Hawaii. Love Cruisecritic for this kind of info!
Since you had the option of changing to a different sail date, I know you have made a wise choice. You will not be disappointed with the Ruby.
Check out the Adagio Bar for cocktails before dinner if you can't/don't go to Skywalker's for Platinum/Elite Lounge. Also the specialty restaurant, Crown Grill is well worth the money.

Hello, we are booked on the Grand on the 2-2-2015 sailing from LA. I would love some recent opinions of this ship, as I have seen some very negative reviews and the Ruby goes only 2 months later. I believe you make your own good time, but a poor ship can ruin a good trip. Only 1 cruise with Princess b/4 and that was Tahiti to Hawaii and it was wonderful, older ship no longer owned by Princess.
:)
As you can see in my signature I have been on a number of Princess ships of all sizes. I was on the Grand to Alaska in 2013. This is strictly my own opinion but I found her very tired. She definitely shows her age. Princess removed Skywalkers and replaced it with "The One5". Not as good. I have been on the Ruby and there is no comparison.

Hi Jayne, we cruised the 20 day on the Emerald with you in Feb 2011.
Noe sure if you remember us Jules & Mike from Canada.
We are looking for the October 2015 round trip out of LA.
My DH and I didn't participate very much in that particular Roll Call as it was a reunion with a high school friend of mine and her hubby that I had not seen in 40 years.
I would like to do the R/T to the So. Pacific in the spring of 2015.

I too am waiting on the rest of the 2015 schedules and found the following information on the Port of Hawaii's website.
http://hidot.hawaii.gov/harbors/passenger-cruise-schedules/
April 09 2015 Ruby Princess Oahu
April 10 2015 Ruby Princess Hilo
April 11 2015 Ruby Princess Kauai
Interesting that the Ruby is not listed for Maui. The suspense deepens.

Hi Jayne....
We were with you in 2009. Loved Bora Bora and Patrick! American Samoa with Tisa. I sure hope this works out. I also noticed that break in the Ruby schedule. Keeping my fingers crossed.
I loved that cruise and the fact it ended in my home port. We have a new cruise terminal here in SF. Hoping Princess schedules more cruises out of it.

We also would like to do a R/T out of LA or SF. We did Sydney to SF in 2009 and loved the islands portion of the cruise. We have our TA on alert as well.
According to the Princess website, the Ruby arrives on March 21st to LA and the next cruise is May 10th starting in Seattle for Alaska. So where is she sailing the month of April? I didn't see the Ruby scheduled for a drydock.

Good to know. Apparently, they are running a test and it is only happening out of the Port of LA.
In May we sailed out of San Francisco on the Grand to Alaska. I had wine in my backpack. I was asked to go over to a table where the person there asked me my cabin number.

There must be other foods that one craves after returning home from their cruise?
-
After all that rich food- something plain and simple.
A cheddar cheese sandwich with Branston Pickle.
And of course a GOOD cup of coffee with brown sugar and vanilla creamer. HOT!!
Isn't it interesting that the simplest things in life bring us so much pleasure?
-
A glass of fresh brewed iced tea!
Ain't that the truth:D

If we fly into Detroit, we always stop at the Ford Rd White Castle for a couple of their "gut bombs". If we fly into our local airport, we stop at our favorite place for a greasy "bar burger".
I always crave White Castle hamburgers probably because I can't get the real thing, only frozen in California.
Another food item I craved when I got home was an Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwich.

After this 15 day cruise we just took I know what you mean about eating food. I didn't think about eating anything until the woman at breakfast said she was dying for a potato chip. Then she got me thinking. That's why I thought it would be an interesting questiong to pose to others.
-
There must be something that you don't have to cook, prepare or wash dishes for that you can't get on the ship but crave? I always bring M&M with me when I cruise.
-
Point well taken. We can get the same foods stuffs at home but somehow it is not quite the same. It is like the pizza issue---Chicago vs New York? We won't go there.:D
-
Why do the ships don't have donuts.
Ya they do but it is not quite the same. Just like the escargot on the ship. It tastes different than what we get at home.
-
Peanut and muster sandwitch
Do you ever try to pay for your dinner with your sail and sign card
I tried that at the golf couse cuz the bartender is also our TA. He bought me a drink.;)
-
I remember Dunkin Donuts when I lived in Chicago. We have Crispy Creme out here. A Ruby Red Margarita sounds wonderful. Will have to try one.
