Thanks for your quick judgement of a fellow cruiser. You did not know their circumstances, whether they were capable of helping people on the island.( some people who cruise are disabled) or perhaps this was a trip they had been saving for all of their life, and yes it is all about them. It is not up to you or anyone else to judge another cruise passenger, whatever their decision.

I'd say it's a wait and see on which islands are ready for tourists. One of the Sonesta properties on St Maarten is cancelling all reservations through the end of the year. We were there in May and it breaks my heart thinking of the devastation.

After seeing the film and photos from St. Martin, I highly doubt the island will be ready for tourists anytime soon. We're scheduled on Celebrity to dock overnight there in November. If I can't get them to tell me if they will divert by mid October, I'm going to cancel and eat my deposit. I just have no interest in using my limited vacation to fly in from the West Coast and visit devastated Caribbean islands. If rather just send money.

We're also on a Nov. sailing, but starting to think we won't dock in any of the ports with the extensive damage being reported in Antigua, St Maarten..most likely Barbados and St Lucia.
This is a terrible loss for the islands' economy, their housing, ability to recover, utilities, injuries due to the storm, transportation between the islands, etc. And now a second one coming behind.
Hi- We are booked on the same cruise as you in November.
The pictures coming in from St. Maarten and Antigua are just heartbreaking. These are some of the most beautiful places in the Caribbean. It will take much longer than two months for these islands to recover. Especially if they get hit by Jose.
I don't want to go to these places in November. I feel like we would just get in the way, and the last thing these folks need is tourists clogging up their island. I'd much rather just send money. If Celebrity doesn't change the ports of call, I think we will cancel.

We're on a 10 day cruise that docks overnight in St. Maarten in November. So sad.

Thank you all for your advice! I am leaning towards the Silouette. Now one more question, we will be booking 2 balconies rooms, anyone have any suggestions of where the best rooms are on the Silhouette?
We just got off the Silhouette on Sunday. We were in AQ, cabin 1596. It was excellent!

I'm mostly with the Aussie, although I think long pants are better formal attire than shorts. I haven't worn a dress for 30 years, not about to start now.
I will take great pleasure in watching everyone dress "to the nines" on our cruise in December.

Smoking in the casino is reason enough for us to stay away from HAL. Simply cannot stomach cigarette smoke.
