  1. Will it work? Probably - depending on your monitor. It has worked for us on RCCL being right across from each other. We even used a "cheap" $20 FP monitor. You will probably have to be directly next/across from the room for it to work.

Is it ok? From prior responses - its up to you and your comfort level. We did it, we were comfortable with it. At times, we could hear our girls sigh (or breathe heavy), I was surprised how much we could hear. Yes, staff has keys to the door - staff could try to be super quiet so the monitor doesn't pick up the clicks of the door - staff could unplug your monitor (even if you hid the monitor - ours was up at the ceiling because of the light). At times, we did have a grandma sit on the couch and watch TV as the curtain was pulled at night. Like another poster suggested, bring a book light with you (or plan to sit in the bathroom). If you are comfortable with the idea, then enjoy your balcony. If you end up NOT liking it, OR, if your monitor doesn't work as well as you had hoped, then take turns sitting in the room with your little one.

    Enjoy your trip!

  2. I haven't had the chance to keep up with all the posts on CC in a while, but reading recent posts (besides this one) makes me a little disappointed in the way some people respond to some posters.

"are you serious?" "you must be joking" etc.

Really - do people come on here and post things out of the blue just to stir people up? Maybe - it seems to be working.

The OP has 8 posts - he might be new to cruising in general. The person is reaching out for guidance. They may have no clue what a boat is like (i.e. fire doors) since they've not been on one. People have multi-story houses...or do garden work at their houses while their baby sleeps inside the house and that may be ok (depending on the situation). Educating new cruisers and/or new parents to the environment can be very helpful and hopefully we can help them have a better and safer cruise experience. Attacking them (ok - that might be a bit strong) - they may never come back to get good advice again. Just answer the question instead of injecting insults and assumptions (i.e., drinking/bar was never in the original post).

Thanks to those who have posted general reasoning behind your standpoint - it helps folks understand a little better - it wasn't my post - but I'm always trying to be a better cruising parent ;)

  3. Last year, we tested this out with a simple fisher price monitor (its like $20 for one receiver). Anyway, I was on one end in the room 'test, test..." and my husband walked. He only got a couple of doors down. We're not sure if it was the distance, or, the fire doors down the hall that created too much interference. We have rooms across the hall and hope they will work on our upcoming trip.

  4. A few years back was that before the Star fire?

I don't know when that fire was (I don't have time to search).

Our last Grand Princess cruise was 12/05. We saw the same elderly couple on our floor in both 12/04 and 12/05. I distinctly remember him parking his scooter outside the room (near elevators I believe) overnight. He had pompoms and a horn...I always wanted to toot the horn. I thought it was funny that we both ended up on the same cruise and same floor two years in a row. I did not see it plugged in - I have no idea how he charged it.

I just talked to the "special needs" dept. She acted like you COULD leave the scooter out in the hallway, but they ask that if you have a small scooter to take it in the room with you (like where your coffee table is/was), or, she said the room steward can store it decks below and have it charged for you. So, it sounds like on RCCL, there is not a hard rule, but they ask that you help everyone have more room in the hallways and provide a safer environment (which we are all for when possible!!!)

  5. I called RCCL and got a great agent (I think she said her name was Kennedy)...I wish I could ask for her when I call back but she said I couldn't :(

Anyway, she said the "big void" on the forward area of the Voyager is a Service Elevator - so workers could be getting on and off throughout the day. There are some other small voids (like the size of a cabin) and she said those have a pole running through them. Oh, she also said the area across from 8536 and 8538 is just a hallway, and that people aren't going to congregate in that area since the stairs open up on the other side (near/facing the elevators).

I just wanted to pass this along for future reference!

    this was all in regards to Voyager E1 rooms: mal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:""; margin:0in; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";} @page Section1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.25in 1.0in 1.25in; mso-header-margin:.5in; mso-footer-margin:.5in; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} --> 8268,8270, 8536,8538,8560, 8570, 7592,7594

  6. you can not park chairs out in the halls- Its a safety/fire hazzard.

If its a regular chair then it can be closed up and stored in the cabin.

If its a scooter and you do not have an accessible room then you will need to store the scooter at the pursers desk and use a regular chair to get back and forth from there.

I don't know why I said wheelchair - she would rent a scooter if she needed it. Wow - I'm surprised you can't leave the scooters in the hallway. I know just 2-3 years ago on Grand Princess scooters were parked outside rooms. I don't know if its just not enforced on that ship or the rule has changed since then.

    thanks for the thoughts.

  7. Voyager of the Seas

    Two E1 Balcony rooms

6 elderly female adults total, split in to 2 rooms (1 may have a wheelchair)

They may also have our two little 1.5 year olds with them at times (on foot or in strollers) (our room will be on deck 9, just after of the forward elevators)

I have a few options and I'm trying to pick the best ones.

The two rooms don't have to be next to each other - but it would be "nice"

    e1 available:

8536 – across from opening at stairwell, forward

8538 – across from opening at stairwell, forward

8560 – just aft of the forward elevators, across from inside rooms

    8570 - across from a "void"

7592 - mid ship, across from inside rooms, but a ways from our room on 9

7594 - mid ship, across from inside rooms, but a ways from our room on 9

    my thoughts:

8536/38 - sound good from just getting in and out - but worried about traffic

8570 - worried about void - could that be bad for a wheelchair parked out front? will attendants be opening and shutting a door all day (or do they leave it open)?

    do you have an opinion?

  8. serene56: thanks for posting the picture. wow - that IS going to be crowded. The babies will be 10.5 months. One does gymnastics in her crib right now and the other sleeps fairly still. I would be worried about one of them flinging herself off the sofa bed.

Also, our cruise is the first of March, so we can't change. Plus, our TA put us on that floor in order to be on the same floor as two other rooms in our party.

  9. D1 Balcony cabin 6644 on Voyager.

I've seen pictures online of what the cabin should "generally" look like.

It shows the sitting area at the entrance and the bed in the rear of the room by the sliding glass doors (to the balcony). Do any of you know if these rooms are really set up like this? We're just curious to figure out what our room will be like with two pack-n-plays setup in the sitting area.

  10. Sorry to post - but it says "search is temporarily down".

We are booked on RCCL Voyager in:

    6644 - D1 Balcony - I think above the dining rooms ??

    6605 & 6607 - PR inside

I'm more concerned about 6644 because we will have two 11 month olds - and I don't want it to be "too noisy". Its nice that we would have the inside (PR) rooms on the same floor to visit...but I don't want my kids to be disturbed either.
