  1. I'm Athena, an 18 year old girl as of May 2014. After I finish high school, I really want to spend a month or two doing work experience or taking a job on a cruise ship. I've been on many cruises and have observed staff who work there.

I thought work experience because they are more likely to take me if there's no salary?

I know it's not as glamourous as it seems, but I can handle working 12-16 hours a day. I'm physically and mentally fit, fav hobby is mixed martial arts, kickboxing and yoga.

I can fluently speak English, Cantonese, Mandarin and intermediate in Spanish.

I'm not sure what position to apply for though. I have experience with kids from babysitting and work experience at childcare centre, tutoring them piano, etc.

I want a waitress position but not sure they would accept a 18 yr old with limited experience.

I could play cocktail piano in the lounge, but it offers limited interaction with other staff.. and perhaps my repertoire isn't wide enough.

Thanks!! :) What can I do??

  2. Hello,

I'm a 17 year old, and because my parents dealt with the gratuities and I used the seapass card thingymajig on past cruises , I was wondering what currencies are permitted onboard?? I kind of forgot..

The thing is.. I want to surprise my older brother because it's his birthday by paying for the whole family to go to Portofino, and I need to know if I can pay with aussie dollar, or does it have to be in US dollars?? I don't want to wait until they charge my parents' seapass card.. want to pay upfront.

    Thanks so much!! :)

  3. Hello,

I'm going on a voyager cruise to NZ on 7 December, and I'm not taking short cuts, but I really want to look and feel my best (all that tempting food... oh gawwd)

Anyway, I have 11 days (including today) I am planning on eating 1200 calories for the next 10 days, and burning approx 800 cals/day at the gym/workout classes.

Today, I did 30 mins of kickboxing, 50 mins weight training, and 1 hour of walking. I only had 80 cals of skim milk and for some reason not feeling hungry at all (because I binged yesturday) :(

I would appreciate tips for fat loss and muscle maintenance! I only have 10 days left as of tomorrow and really want to feel good! :)

I am hoping to lose 1.5kg..

Should I still drink a lot of water because doesn't water make you bloated??

Green tea?? Apple cider vinegar?? How much/day?

    Thank you!!

  4. Hello! :)

I am very excited for my voyager cruise on 7th December, and was hoping you can share some tips/advice about pre-cruise preparation!

For those who have been cruising, we all know how quickly the days pass, and it's imperative to plan ahead of time, e.g. what to do and when, etc.

How do you plan prior to a cruise? e.g. do you research all the locations before hand and print out maps and stuff, or research good restaurants and cafes there, etc?

I'm going to NZ, stopping at melbourne along the way..

    Thanks! :)

  5. What are good diets for maintaining muscle and burning fat?? Does the 5:2 work, or should I just eat 800-1000 cals a day??

Also, does the "eat for 3 hrs, fast for 21 hrs or something" work? I've tried that and don't really feel hungry.

What percentage of protein/carbs/fat should I include in my diet? I'm curently having no carbs except for veges and fruit.

I burn about 500 calories a day exercising, and my metabolic rate is almost 1400 cals. I'm 17 yrs old, 164cm tall and 52kg.

Since I'm only 17, I'm not perfect for my weight because teens at 164 are supposed to weight less than adults anyway (haven't fully developed chest areas and bones stuff like that I think lol )

Thank you!! :) I'm up for a challenge!

How often should I drink green tea, apple cider vinegar? What other tips do you have?? e.g. ice water to increase metabolism??

    Thanks in advance!

  6. Hello

    Hi! :)

EEEEEEEEEEEEEk I have two more weeks left (exactly 14 days from tomorrow) before I'm on the voyager of the seas!

I'm capable of doing 2 hrs of exercise a day, e.g. cardio or cardio+weight training. Any suggestions on a 2-week INTENSE diet/exercise plan please?

I just want to lose the max amount of fat and maintain muscle so I look and feel my best, as I get bloated quite easily from eating :(

In one week I will be doing:

6 hours of cardio, e.g. elliptical, kickboxing, etc.., 3 hours of weight training, 2 hours of yoga/pilates and around 30 min of walking/day

I feel fine eating 1000 calories, but should I eat more or less?? NOTE: I want to lose fat and at least 2 kgs in 14 days. I'm 164cm tall, 52kg and 17.

I would appreciate it if you could NOT tell me that I'm good for my height, I just want to look my best and would appreciate your help :D

  7. Hello,

For a voyager cruise in December, my family have been placed on late seating for dinner at the main dining room, despite our initial request for 6pm.

Apparently, however, the 8:30pm seating is more popular, and that 6pm isn't usually full.

Therefore, I was wondering if any of you have had success in changing to 6pm seating for dinner?? It would really help, because I don't really want to be having dinner that late at night :)

Should I go to reception on the 1st day, or phone in?

    Thank you for your advice

  8. Hello,

For the past 2 cruises with royal caribbean cruises I've had the same problem. I have a habit of going to the gym at around 4pm, and when i'm finished, the windjammer is closed for dinner preparations. Therefore, before my workouts, I always ask for a glass of skim milk/some chicken salad or fruit.

However, EVERY time I come back there is nothing on the table. Despite me telling them REPEATEDLY to leave it on the table even if I'm not there, they seem to think it polite to wait until im in there or something.

arrghhh have any of you experienced the same problem?? Any advice?

    Thanks!

  9. Hello!

I have only been on 2 other royal caribbean cruises and being a 17 year old girl, haven't actually participated in trivia games or quests! I've heard that they were quite fun, so can you tell me about your experience with them??

What sort of questions are asked?? eg. about the ship, or general knowledge?

I've only done scavenger hunts but hoping to participate in some trivia next month when I'm sailing on the voyager

    Thank you!! :)

Please tell me which ones I can participate in as a 17 year old?? I know that some, e.g. the love and marriage is out of the option (lol)

    Thank you!! :)

  10. Hello,

I'm a 17 year old and I am cruising with my family (brother, parents and grandparents). Although it's fun hanging out with my 22 yr old brother at the gym and doing scavenger hunts, making gingerbread men, etc, sometimes it's nice to make some new friends, especially with so many people on board!!

last time i made friends with people we ate with, but that was pretty much it. apart from when they pulled me on stage to play the piano in the theatre everyone started waving.

But as a 17 year old girl, with the clubs all restricted to 18 years and over, where do I hang out to make friends?? Can you make friends in the gym? as well as working out of course. I don't want to go to the teen club, because they're for 14-17 yr olds. most would be younger, i'd guess.

    Thank you!!

I want to hang out with 18+ people because there's more of a topic of conversation, and more fun! I'm quite mature lol :)

    Thanks!

  11. Hello,

I am a massive, and I accentuate, MASSIVE fan of sparkling mineral water. It is a fantastic alternative to sugary soft drinks and still has the fizz! :) I mean carbon dioxide ;)

Anyway, keeping in mind that all the food, including seafood, juices, etc are free... can you get sparkling mineral water on the cruise? Or do you have to purchase a soft drink package? how much is that by the way?

Can someone please explain why they charge for water when there are some more expensive food around which is for free.

    Thank you!! :)

  12. Hello,

Quick question.. I'm sailing in early december and I've only ever worked out (in weight training) with pump bars and plates.

Do they have pump bars on royal caribbean? voyager of the seas to be precise.

    Thank you!!

also if not, HOW do you do wide squats with dumbbells?? do they go outside the thighs or in the centre?

    thanks!

  13. Hello :)

Please share your gym routine on cruise, and how to keep eating a healthy diet despite all the buffets, dining rooms luring and beckoning you nearer. lol

Okay so I'm used to doing 8 hrs of exercise- boxing, jiu jitsu, kickboxing, weights, etc, and yoga/pilates as well.

I don't know how I'm going to fit that in when there's ports of call every second day.

When you are on a cruise, when do you workout?? e.g. in the morning/afternoon. Which one seems better to help energise you, and for your metabolism?? e.g. before or after breakfast?

Cruise food to help digestion and cleansing??

    Thank you!!

  14. Hello :)

I know this question is subject to personal opinion, but please tell me what you think!! Reason I'm asking this is I don't want to feel selfconscious if I don't have to, but if I do then... too bad for me :(

I am 164cm tall, 51kg.. bmi of 19.1. I know this is normal.. but I have no thigh gap or anything, and I'm not model thin of course.

another question, do guys like toned girls/bulky girls or petite, skinny girls??

I'm weight training to lean muscle, NOT bulk!! and I don't want to have jiggly bits, esp under arms.

I'm on a strict diet/exercise plan as there's less than a month till my cruise. I really want to walk around without feeling self cautious about my touching upper thighs!! Which is really hard when you're in a dress/shorts.

Final question: what do guys think when they see girls train in the gym who aren't skinny?? first thoughts? because I'll be spending some time in the weights area apart from cardio..

Other than that I'll enjoy the cruise :D

    thanks

    thank you!! :)

  15. Hello! :)

I've been on 3 cruises before, but I've never tried any of the specialty restaurants! It's my brother's birthday and whilst on the december cruise I'd like to surprise him and book at the Portofino for the family.

Any suggestions on what to order? and how does the menu work? I've heard that it's 4 courses for $20 + tipping. Have you eaten there before.. what did you think? can you order 2 entrees instead of dessert?

It would be great if you let me know what's nice to order on the menu, and if it's a good choice :)

Also... what do you think about johnny rockets? apparently it's worse than the windjammer apart from the shakes.

    thank you!! :)

  16. Hello,

I am a 17 year old girl going on a cruise at beginning of December, and I have less than month to lose 4 kgs! I am 51kg at the moment, 164cm tall. And.. I really don't want to feel self-conscious when I'm supposed to be enjoying myself! The staff are very nice, but I don't want people to stare when I go to the gym/get into shorts/tank. I'm not even thinking about a bikini at this stage. :(

arrgh I'm really stressed! I made friends last time, but there were these skinny, tall girls who were on the treadmill all the time and whilst jogging, gave rude glances because I was doing weight training. They were light weights, but I did 800 reps for sculpting not building muscle.

another question: what do guys think about girls doing weight training? I'm not a tom boy or anything, like I do pilates and yoga, cardio too. just wondering.

Soooo I know i need to lose weight.. does anyone have any tips?? e.g. green tea or something? I'm working out 7 hrs cardio/weights and 3 hrs pilates a week+ abs every night. should I do more??

I DON'T WANT EVERYONE STARING!! :( I'm not even thinking about bringing a bikini at this stage

    thanks!
