  1. We cruised the first time 32 years ago when my son was turning one. We did not sail on Celebrity... we used Royal, Carnival, and Norwegian. He always did great. Lucky had a sweet disposition so he was the darling of most all our cruises. Since we traveled with him consistently, he knew to sit quietly during long dinners and colored or whatever was in at that time. He learned at a young age to be able to play like crazy in the kids area, but also to sit and speak with adults. I would definitely take your baby... but probably not Celebrity. Not because your baby, but possibly he won't be welcomed by other guests. I personally would enjoy a few kids on board.

  2. Back in the 80's if you were in a port with several cruise ships, you could give your key card to the security officer and visit each ship. Does anyone remembering doing that? Once we were in St Thomas and I think we went on 2 or 3 ships that day. It was a great selling point. Of course, with security we will never see those days again I don't believe.

  3. GF42 Maybe, but then I would still be stuck paying single rate. I called Celebrity again and talked to a "supervisor" and she said if the cabin isn't being cancelled after final payment the one wanting to cancel needs to use their insurance to get refunded. The person staying pays no additional. Of course my friend did not for some crazy reason take out the travel insurance. The "supervisor" said that is the risk you take when you don't take the insurance. Who knows. I passed this all on to my friend. I hate for her to loose all the money, but at the same time I know she won't let me pay a penny extra. No matter what happens, I sure will miss her on the trip.

Thanks for all the input though!

  4. Well I have talked to 2 of Celebrity representatives and our TA and gotten a couple different answers.

    1. She can cancel after final payment but they will only give her taxes back.. remainder of her payment stays for the cabin payment. I wouldn't be asked to pay more. She can cancel or just no show.. same result. (Celebrity)

    2. If she cancels 47 days out, she can get 50 % of her money back, and I will be billed the $1,900 for the single supplement. (Celebrity)

    3. She can get all her money back and I will be billed an additional $1,900 or she can just not show and receive back her taxes only.... no port charges. TA

(I think this is incorrect... after final payment you never get all your money back)

No what do I do? lol I don't want her to loose all the money, but she is never going to let me be stuck with the single supplement since she is the one not going.......

Shouldn't there be a standard answer? This is so frustrating.

  5. Thanks for all your input. I have a call into TA but she has been off a couple days. I don't want to get stuck singles rate..(now says it is $6000+) That is insane. I do have travel insurance so I will call them tomorrow also. I will loose $397 just changing my flight (change fee and comfort seats) We are good friends so she will not do anything to cost me a lot of money. I will post more when I hear back. Been cruising since 1985 and I have never seen this happen to anyone I know but I am sure it happens quite often.

  6. I think I know the answer but I have never had this happen to me or anyone I know. My friend and roommate has to cancel the cruise in Oct. We have already made our final payment. I don't know why but she did not take out the insurance so she will loose the money. Since the cabin is paid, I just have the cabin to myself at no additional charge to me .... correct? I know I could sell her part of cabin, but all our close friends are already going and I am not having a roommate I do not know well. A bad roommate can ruin a trip for sure. Thanks for an info!

  7. I purchased group guided tours for the day before our cruise. I bought 11 senior and one full price as I am 63. I just found out one of our ladies will not turn 65 until after the trip. Anyone have any idea how I can take care of this? Not sure if they check ID for ages, if I should wait until I get there and let her pay the 6 e difference, or what I should do. Any advice? First time I have ever had a problem like this.

  8. Question please: There will be a group of 4 senior ladies (65-74) taking the train from Paris to Barcelona for a cruise in October. I think we definitely need to stay downstairs but is there a big difference for us between 1st and 2nd class? We are not tall. Is it worth an addition 30-40 euros each? Thanks for any info.

  9. Does anyone know what a taxi would charge to take 4 people to Bastalica from downtown Ajaccio? Supposed to be a mountain village and the view is supposedly fantastic. We are only in port for about 7 hours. I believe I read it is about 25 miles. Thanks!

  10. Staying in Paris for a few days before taking the train to Barcelona for a Celebrity cruise. We have L'Empire booked near the Louve. Has anyone done the hop on hop off bus? There are a few and I can't figure out which is the best. The big bus or Foxity? Guess I am worried about being too cold in middle October. Also anyone do the Night bus tour to see Paris in Lights? Any advice? Thanks

  11. We are coming in several days early... does the 39 flat rate also cover from airport to centrally located hotels? We are staying at Hotel Curious right off of La Ramblas and close to Plaça Catalunya. The transfer service charges 38 euros pp to transfer from airport to the hotel so a taxi will probably be cheaper for the small groups coming in together. They will be great transferring us from the port to the airport after the cruise... for 12 people it is only 10 euros each! Thanks for any advice!
