  1. They really should add a disclaimer to the form that if you knowingly do not disclose accurate information and you get sick, they are not held liable for providing treatment.   Also, if you cause others to get sick because you cruised and put others at risk because you lied on the form, you are personally responsible for the fallout.  If you get the virus,  it will be discovered that you lied on the form since it's being tracked by the CDC, and therefore,  the burden rests with the traveler.

Agree. Like the jet blue passenger who just got barred from the airline for life for being selfishly stupid.

  2.
if left and right can’t agree that a freakin virus is bad and work together, we are doomed.

Pretty sure we are doomed then bc that’s exactly where we are.

FWIW, I don’t think you’re selfish for cruising. What’s selfish to me are those who demean others for their decision and those saying they see no reason for anyone to cancel. To me, this is simply very different for each person (which is why I’m so glad the industry is allowing some choices!). If people are ok with potential quarantines (land or sea) and don’t have jobs in high risk categories (or are high risk themselves) I think it’s absolutely fine to make your choice to sail—doesn’t make you selfish at all.

  3. Ha, yep. I guess my point is, they were talking a much higher death rate early on. So it’s nice to get some good news out of today.

I honestly have not been keeping up with the WHO. Due to info overload, I’ve tried to keep up very very closely with the cdc and local news reports—with national news sprinkled in where I can and talking with people i know and trust with medical knowledge. The Italy numbers are astonishing to me. So when Fauci did nearly a 180 today, it caused me both alarm and confusion. Why now? We’ve known what’s happening in Italy and China for weeks. I’m perplexed why NOW he’s ramped it up so very much. I find it very interesting.

  4. Ok, I am totally confused after getting emails from Carnival and I'm hoping someone can talk me down off the ledge. Here's the situation:

    1. Original Cruise booked for May 25 and was paid in full (we were passed the final payment date). Cruise fare was $2,117.00. Taxes, fees, etc was another $814.92.
    2. Canceled that cruise on Monday and booked a new cruise leaving July 18. New cruise fare is $2,567 and taxes, fees, etc is another $406.92. Paid $682 deposit and insurance on my credit card.
    3. Was told by the Carnival rep that the original cruise fare ($2,117) would be moved over to the new booking and the original taxes and fees ($814.92) would be refunded on my credit card.
    4. Today, I see a Future Cruise Credit of only $709 applied to my new booking, leaving a balance due of $1889.92.
So what happened to the remaining $1,408 from my original cruise fare????? I'm seriously trying not to panic, but not being able to call Carnival to make sure I didn't just lose over $1,400 is pushing me over the edge.

Can anyone help me understand this? Am I missing something?

My amounts are jacked up also. My gut tells me it will all work out in the end and there’s glitches right now. I can understand your concern is even greater bc you rebooked already. I was waiting to rebook after all my credits were properly applied but now that’s not only not the case, I couldn’t even call to rebook if I wanted to. All we can do is wait and keep calling. It’s stressful as crap!

"Guests booked on sailings departing between April 1 and May 31 can move your booking to a future date by March 31" is what the PDF said in the initial email we got for the offer on March 5/6?  When you refer to "cancellation email", is that something different?

Would that not mean that the new cruise has to be booked prior to March 31 of this year, sailing on or before March 31 of 2021?

A future date prior to March 31 of 2021.

  6. I may have just answered my own question from my previous post (#114).

So if I cancelled after the final payment date, but before 56 days prior to sail date, my penalty (and thus, the FCC) would be only the standard deposit amount ($250/pp) and the rest of the cruise fare will be refunded to my credit card?

Too much to wrap my head around. 🥺

Yes (unless you booked under an offer with a different deposit amount/rule)

  7. He's also said,,,,from The Week
Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told lawmakers during a House Oversight Committee hearing Wednesday that COVID-19 — the disease caused by the novel coronavirus — is probably about 10 times more lethal than the seasonal flu.

Yes. He has very much increased his level of concern in the past 24 hours. His house testimony was the strongest I’ve heard from him by far.

Ok- I watched the mayor of Houston Video. He is recommending that citizens in the Houston area quarantine for 14 days after travel outside the US, avoid visiting nursing homes if you have just travelled. he did NOT say they would be quaranting people.

And, Jimbo, I used the extreme example because that extreme is what people are now preparing for and, in doing so, hoping to avoid.

I agree.  I watched the Houston conference also (my husbands company had rodeo tickets and booths) and my overall perception from that AND dr fauci today is that without “aggressive containment” the numbers involved could go into “many millions”.  Fauci’s words not mine.  Extreme measures are reality now.

  9. I just canceled our may 16 Caribbean cruise yesetfar. I did this now for 2 reasons: one is because we are still within the 56 day+ category which is a cash refund of all but our deposit. The second reason was we simply had too many extenuating circumstances making it impossible to risk not returning home on the date scheduled. For us, the risks just outweighed pros (I cried for awhile yesterday bc of the disappointment). I think everyone is going to be different and you gotta do what’s best for YOU.

  10. Blood tests for my physical next week, not going!
County next to us just reported a 47 yr old tested positive yesterday!
Like others have said, its been here for likely a month, many might have had it, and are ok, others might have it now, and are spreading it, wish they'd lock down the senior homes!

My town has a 3 year old who tested positive on Monday. I’ve wondered if we aren’t hearing of children near as much bc they are more immune to this for some reason or simply bc their symptoms are so mild (normal kid crud). This family here will be a very interesting case to study. We need as much data as possible to get vaccine trials going.

  11. Thanks for posting this! Does the cancellation policy (refund minus deposit if cancel more than 56 days) apply to ALL sailings or just ones up until May 31?

My final payment for a June European sailing is due March 21 and I have been trying to find out when I have to cancel to only be out my deposit.  I want to go on the cruise if possible because it has taken a massive amount of planning, but do to kids and husband's job, we cannot risk a quarantine.

Carnival is still only through May 31 as of this moment.

Don't know. She did say past final payment, but for instance May 1 is 50 or 51 days I think. Plus, we don't know what type of fare she booked.

Guess I just assumed since it was after graduation. But yes, it would depend on the offer booked, too.   Mine was May 15 and apparently my offer was “standard deposit” (TA words) of $500/cabin so I have $1k in FCC and the rest back on my cc (supppsedly anyway- I can’t get through to confirm and so far only one room has been refunded).  Stressful time for all for sure.

I'm old enough to remember doctors visiting your home!

The only way to limit the passing of this virus on to others is to have a person trained in getting the samples/swipes needed at your home, you stay in your home a day waiting the results, and if sick, stay home for 14 days/whatever they come up with, and get retested again!

Going to a doctors office or the hospital to get checked is just passing on the virus to others who aren't sick with the virus.

Can you imagine sitting in your doctors office waiting for your regular physical, and others are waiting for a virus check??? Doesn't make sense!

The German Chancellor yesterday stated she felt up to 70% of Germany will get the virus, that's almost 60 million!

Yeah I’m scheduled for my annual physical next month and was thinking about that, too.

I did not understand your sentence. But, there are currently no cash refunds if that is what you are asking.

Ohhh wait, are you saying if Carnival cancels the cruise? That may be a different story but no answer on how for sure that would be handled since it hasn't happened yet.

Wait.  She’s not scheduled until May so she would most likely be outside the 56-day cancel policy which would be cash refund for all except the deposit—right?

  15.
    Understood.

I do wish that we, as a country, could be a little more proactive in this regard. And, for that matter, the environment, infrastructure, and on, and on... !!

I agree. Proactivity has a long way to go in this country. As does altruism.

True - and for anyone to suggest otherwise, would be to prove their ignorance.

Nonetheless, some rather salient points were made in this article.

I work for a Functional Medicine dr- which means about 80% of our patients are in the high risk group due to autoimmune disorders. While this article is from a New Zealand expert, this is what my employer chose to email to her patients to explain the virus snd the situation/goal. I found it very helpful so passing along to anyone interested. The goal is to flatten the curve— and that takes everyone working together to achieve.
