  1. On one of my two Regent cruises I recall there being a single child on board. This is not a line for families with children. Now that I think about it, a young newlywed couple attracted quite a bit of attention, also. They received many, many congrats because we all recognized them each time we saw them around the ship. 😄

  2. I saw it go by a few days ago, on its way to Victoria according to MarineTraffic. I presumed it was for repairs. It caught my eye because cruise ships are almost never heading out of Puget Sound in the late morning. Now it shows the Sun berthed in downtown Seattle.

  3. I went on the RIB trip to the Saltstraumen. We happened to hit it right at the time when the current was basically neutral, so no big drama there, but the trip was lively. The rocky shoreline was fascinating and the boats toured a variety of areas before heading into the (non)maelstrom. Even considering the phase we experienced, the water was churning and moving about in a way I'd never seen before. If you enjoy being at sea, see it on a boat rather than the bus tour.

  4. Looking forward to your report of your trip when you return. Be sure to book your train for Oslo to Bergen (and return?) on-line at least 3 months ahead of time, and get Comfort seating as it is reserved and offers the nicest seats, plus complimentary self-service beverages.

Yes! Book it and double check that you have guaranteed seats. Don't make my mistake--I bought tickets online but failed to get seat assignments. When we went to the station, the apologetic agent (Yay, Norway!:')) explained it was the start of the Easter holiday and families had filled the train we thought we were taking. We barely squeaked on one later in the day. All I could think about was my ship leaving Bergen the next day, with or without me.

And to the question, our March 30 sailing was wonderful, apart from the complications of Easter and many closed businesses. Gorgeous weather, brilliant snow, and by the time we got back to Oslo spring was in full swing. Just a fantastic trip in every way.

  5. We will be stopping here in December on Allure. There will be 4 adults in our group (and we all like to have fun and enjoy adult beverages)....this looked great...just wondering if you did it and how it was?

Hey there, we did do the walking tour. It was a beautiful day and the directions took us through town on a perfectly-timed path. Somehow we missed the Queen's Staircase, so check your directions on that one, but the rest was as written. The rum distillery was fun--I declared my grapefruit juice-based cocktail to be the perfect breakfast drink. :D We peered into a house in ruins being reclaimed by nature, passed by a cemetery of great age with every sort of headstone, walked along with mourners dressed to the nines, and landed at a family-owned open air beach bar, Tiki Bikini hut, where we drank local brews, ate conch fritters and ceviche, and soaked up the patter between staff and customers. We also hit up Pirate Bay Brewing, which is worth a stop and has wi-fi. When we passed through security I asked the fellow checking IDs how he was doing. "Not as good as you." Heh.

  6. The best part of Atlantis Resort is the beautiful view of it from your cruise ship entering the port, especially at dawn or early morning. Other than that I had no interest.

Are you up for walking and a few drinks and a swim? Here's a plan........

That's just what I needed to read, thanks. After visiting the Bahamas a lifetime ago I wasn't even planning on getting off the ship this time. Your walking tour has convinced me otherwise. A few cultural highlights, a little local rum, finishing with beer and ceviche at Junkanoo Beach, and I'm good for my six hour stop.
