must have missed that.  we choose once a day (evening because it fits our needs, been asked every time).  This enhancement (option for selection of when you want service) has been bludgeoned to death.

Wow. I’ve sailed on 5 different cruise lines, including Carnival. Each ship had a method of notifying your stateroom attendant when you didn’t want or need your room serviced through some form of card or in some cases a spinning index outside the door. But now that they ask you it’s an “enhancement”.

I don’t have a single preference. I would be fine with once a day. But I would like mornings on port days when I’m off the ship and evenings on sea days when I decide to sleep in. And guess what, I’ve never had a problem getting this service using the already existing system. I’ll see it as something that is there for the benefit of the passenger when they put that option on their form. Otherwise I believe it only benefits the company.

Funny, no proof of any change but bashers show up in force to slam.

This quote is post #12. Can someone show me the bashing posts in the first 11 posts? The OP asked a question and stated that they wouldn’t be happy about it if true. Other than that I can’t  see any bashing against Carnival. But of course others have seen a post calling out bashers and jumped right on it. Amazing isn’t it?

  3. Nope they are great and unlike Royal you can get as many as you want.

Really. What Royal cruise were you on that they limited the number of lobster tails you could have?

This ranks up there with the RCL stock price dropping post.

  4. During dinner, I had gotten into a conversation with a couple new to our croup and to cruising on Carnival. Their past cruising experiences had been on Royal and I was asking so far, what their impressions were between the two. They talked about the entertainment in the MDR being different and mostly other than that, commented that they did not see anything to justify the "fun" comments for Carnival. I just took it in and said, let's see how it goes.

We were among the last to leave the dining room as we exited, Matt was on top of the bar leading a packed atrium area into a frenzy before leading them upstairs. I turned to the couple and said, I bet you won't see that on Royal.

Nice review so far, but you just couldn't resist an unprovoked dig at Royal. BTW you would lose that bet.

  5. No but others in our group did. Why do you ask?

I ask because I've noticed in the past that you ask posters if they have sailed Carnival or this ship or that ship. Questioning their posts. I'm questioning yours.

You give people a lot of good information about Carnival, but seem to have a something against Royal. I base this on the fact that you repeatedly tell people that they MUST make reservations for shows on some Royal ships. This is simply not true. While it is possible to reserve seats for shows you don't have to. If you show up ten minutes before show time the stand by line will be just about finish entering the show. You walk to the end of the line and proceed into the show. Only once did this not work for me on the first of the three show times for the ice show. So I went to plan 2 which was the comedy club. It is right across the hall from the ice show enterance. I saw the ice show at the second showing.

I didn't waste time standing in line. I didn't even waste time sitting in the theaters waiting 30 minutes for the show to start. I sat in a lounge relaxing with a beverage. I also was able to sit with my wife at each show.

Before you tell me that wasn't the experience of the people in your group, every theater or show room on every cruise ship in every cruise line has a max capacity. Some times people don't make into shows on every cruise line. It happens. But making it sound like its a huge hassle or takes months of planning is bull.

  6. Wrong again, but you are consistent. I was making my point on mega ships (Oasis/Allure/Harmony in my reference) being like a land trip to Disney (planning appointments for shows dining etc) it was most certainly on topic. Please keep up

Have you ever sailed an Oasis class ship without making any reservations?

  7. No doubt, but limited ports of call and no tender ports.... Certainly does limit options, unless they are using it in China.

I've been away for a while and must have missed Europe disappearing. I didn't realize the cruising world now only included China and the Caribbean. Seems like less then a year ago that I was cruising the Mediterranean on Allure.

  8. Hmm the poster I quoted said he booked elsewhere after their upcoming December cruise because they were unhappy with Carnival primarily because of entertainment. I was agreeing with what they said. Maybe I should have put "should" in italics or said specifically "yes I agree with you, you SHOULD book elsewhere if you are unhappy." But I figure if I quote a post agreeing with it, people would get it. Apparently not. I didn't suggest the poster go elsewhere but rather agreed with them saying they did and why.

I think in the quickness of people trying to check others on here and being quick- sometimes too quick to accuse people of being cheerleaders - that you skip right over when someone is agreeing with another poster. I had already explained what I said and why. Yet you come hours later quoting certain sections of posts that alone have no context.

So let me be clear AGAIN - if a person is unhappy with Carnival, there's absolutely nothing wrong with choosing another cruise line. I thought vote with your wallet was a mantra around here. Yet I guess you better not agree with someone when they are doing just that - otherwise you'll be accused of being a cheerleader. So yes those two statements I made can be true when you read them both in the entirety of the posts I stated them. People take snippets of things all the time and turn them into something else. It's a clever trick but that's all it is. A trick.

It's also a neat trick to make a statement and come back to explain it away when you're called out on it. But I'll take your word for it. And to quote Jimbo we can move on.

  9. Actually the subject was advance planning that had to be done when someone travels to Disney and comparing it to an Oasis cruise. Lastly, many people can't go to Disney during those "slow times" you talk about, they need to go when it is busy and while I am not a huge Disney fan, fast passes work pretty well. Whether or not some of the cruisers are "stuffing their faces or getting wasted, and you were able to walk right in to your show (probably during an off season cruise if your logic holds true) my point was that was not the case when we sailed on Oasis. There were many people in the standby line and some did not get in....it's a fact, I was there, your experience may differ. As I said before, we can move on.

And there has never been anyone turned away due to completely fill theater on any other cruise ship, right? I doubt it. It happens everywhere. For that matter, if you have a reservation for a show on Oasis and show up late you might not get a seat.

Personally, my only issue is your insistence that reservations have to be made.As myself and a few others have shown that's not true. And it doesn't mean that you'll have to stand in a long line either.

And to address some other issue people have raised, there are plenty of places to connect with the sea on Oasis. You don't have to go to Central Park or the inside promenade. Also, you don't have to do any of the thing onboard if you don't want to. Nobody is twisting you arm. Want to just relax, then just relax.

  10. You can believe it or not, but it is true. 3 to 4

Months out to make reservations for shows. It is a fact, not only that but the poor schleps who did not do it had to wait in a standby line., maybe sitting together and maybe not. Maybe getting in and maybe not sounds like fun to me ......Not my idea of fun cruising. Better do more more research on Disney to. Do you get around much? If you want a Disney dinner you make it in advance, way in advance. Sounds like an accurate assessment to me. I don't even have to get to the amusement park comparison.

Did you even read my post? I didn't stand in line. I relaxed in a lounge until 10 min. before showtime and then walked to the almost empty stand-by line. Only once didn't I make a show the first attempt and even then was able to walk 20 ft. to the comedy club. I sat with my wife at every show. So it is not a FACT as you put it that you need to make reservations. It is an option. And I believe options are good.

As for Disney, I've been there. Never went hungry. Never made any reservations for anything. Never equated restaurants with attractions or shows. Two different entities. It has been a while since I cruised on Carnival but I'm pretty sure can't just walk up to the steakhouse and be sure of being seated.

  11. All that planning way in advance if you want to see a show or attend something. To me it's not cruising but more like a Disney trip.

Don't believe this. I sailed Allure without making a single reservation and was able to see every show. I didn't stand in line more then a couple of minutes and sat with my wife at each show. Show up 10 minutes before showtime. They will already be seating stand by guests. Get in line then and you will more than likely get into the show. In full disclosure, we didn't make it into the ice show first try, but walked to the comedy club line next door and got right in.

I never knew that Disney required reservations for its attractions. Strange comparison.

  12. I do know how it is, since I said it. Most of the difference is, I have experienced both products. My comments on them are.....my comments. My comments specifically to amusement rides on Oasis and Quantum class ships stand. I am not trying to insult them or the people that sail them (which I was one of). What I said, was that it is not my cup of tea. Having bumper cars, merry go rounds, etc etc (by the way, way, way more than on a Carnival ship) do not enhance the cruise experience....for me. I never called ropes courses options, and these things on a Carnival ship don't enhance my cruise experience either.

The point was that cruising is evolving and changing. Carnival has taken a less aggressive path on those changes than other cruise lines....that is fact. Whether you or I think that is right, wrong, innovative or radical is our opinion. I will try and not belittle you for having yours....;).

I sort of get that some things don't directly enhance your cruise experience. There are things that I feel don't enhance the cruise experience for me such as karaoke, or bingo. But, I'm curious. Do these things detract from you cruise experience in some way? I would think the fact that these options exist would benefit anyone who likes to do other things with their time by drawing crowds away from their chosen activity. Thus in fact enhancing their cruise experience.

  13. For starters: Carnival has guys aots has Johnny Rockets a la carte pay. We like to cruise not go to the amusement park bumper cars, merry go round, ejector pod, climbing any wall, zip line between cabins, wave machine, fee fall hot air machine, having to decide on shows specialty dinners months (scratch that years in advance), ice capades, off off Broadway shows, imitation ice capades, and certainly not least charging 14 bucks for pina colada.

I checked your cruise list in your signature and didn't see Anthem of the Seas anywhere. Surely you aren't making negative comments about a ship you've never sailed on.

Now, I haven't been on Anthem either but recently sailed on Allure. I didn't make any reservations for shows or dining. But I did see every show and didn't wait more then 5 minutes to be seated with Mtd.
