  1. Wife and I are booked on the transatlantic departing Rome October 26 on the Legend. She sails to Rome from London arriving August 27, 2024 but then she seems to just disappear from Carnival's cruise booking site until our October 26th cruise from Rome to Tampa. I've read on the boards she was going in for work but it appeared that was earlier this year. Is the August 27 - October 26 time period a dry dock or something else? Thanks!

Nope, day passes are not available at any resorts under Covid restrictions.

    Beach, tours, etc. Safe travels.

Thank you, glad to be cruising again. Looking forward to the good old days coming back when we can do things on our own. The restrictions must be very difficult for the independent tour operators.

Hello. Where/How did you learn that you will be able to do independent tours in St Lucia. The Celebrity website still states that you must go on a ship sponsored tour to visit the island.

    Thank you

On the roll call for the 11/7 Equinox cruise St Lucia was listed as a place we could do on our own. I just checked celebrities website and it says only ships tours on St Lucia. I'm not sure if things are still fluid or if the original poster just had bad information. Looks like we'll be sticking to ships tours. Thanks!

  4. Will be in St Lucia on November 12 during our celebrity equinox cruise. Just learned that we will be able to do independent tours. Wondering if Sandals Le Toc is currently selling day passes? I'm worried that due to covid they might be restricting visits.

    Thanks

Got the upgrade!! There were 6 open royal suites when we received the moveup offer email 2 months before departure. I bid just a little over the minimum of $1000 pp. Got an email exactly one month before cruise begins telling me that my offer was accepted. We are really excited! I'm planning to get most of the moveup costs back by taking advantage of the free extra charge restaurants and laundry. Thanks for putting this thread and spreadsheet, it helped me plan my bid!

  6. OK. In the interest of free and open exchange of information, I'll tell you mine:

Deck 7, all the way aft. This area is sheltered from most of the wind and the view is unobstructed. One side is a smoking area, but that is often not a problem. There are two or three deck loungers available.

Deck 7, mid-aft. There are about eight deck loungers available. The large storage container for the emergency raft system blocks the wind from the first couple of loungers.

Deck 17, forward. The areas immediately outside of the elevator lobby on both sides have comfortable chairs and sofas. The areas are covered and there's a nice breeze and good views. There's a fair amount of activity in the area, but I find it a good place to read.

Thanks Goldfada - it's like pulling teeth here to get people to give up their secrets! :D

  7. I always enjoy finding the secret decks that are really only secret to non cruise critic passengers! On the Island there was a door all the way forward on two of the upper decks. The door wasn't marked, but when you opened it there were some really nice forward decks that were undiscovered by most of the passengers until the final days of the cruise.

This is my first time on Regal, wondering if there are any "secret" places on her?

Departing for our cruise in just a little over 3 weeks. Can't wait!

    Allen

  8. I remember Princess used to publish an email address for each ship that could be used in an emergency to contact a passenger.

Does anybody know if they still support the emergency email address and what that address is for the Island Princess?

I will have my ipad and can get my own email using one of their internet plans if that is the only choice now. Just hoping to disconnect from the digital world as I know as soon as I turn the Ipad on for an email check, i'll probably start doing other things!

  9. I'm the OP and promised a follow-up to my thread.

First of all, thanks for all the advice!

I checked insurance policies available on the various broker websites as well as with my TA who works for a very large agency. The TA was willing to sell me a policy but when I read it I was pretty sure that the policy would cover me in the event my MIL passed away, but would not cover us if we felt she was close and needed us nearby. Her illness (COPD) would be considered a pre-existing condition and our claim would be denied.

Her COPD has been with her for several years, but has never required the long hospitalization (2 weeks) that she had during her most recent episode. I'm sure we would have opted for the insurance at booking if she had experienced similar episodes in the past.

Fortunately, she is doing better now and is back home. We are moving forward with out cruise without the insurance.

For those of you with elderly parents, I'd recommend that you carefully consider their health and risks when you book and err on the side of buying insurance you won't need.

Again, thanks for all the help!

  10. Thanks for all the advice CC'ers.

Mother in-law isn't going on the cruise, we are worried we'll need to cancel if she gets worse and we need to be with her.

I believe if we had a policy, this would be the "cancel for any reason" provision. and all the policies I've looked at so far require purchase within a week or two of final payment.

I've got a call into my TA, he's with one of the bigger cruise agencies. I'll let you all know what if anything he comes up with anything.

  11. Wondering if anyone has been able to buy travel insurance either through Princess or independently after final has been made? We sail in about 45 days and my mother in-law has been hospitalized. While we hope she will be fine, we do worry that we'll need to cancel if she gets worse.

I know I should have done this at booking, but didn't foresee any chance of this happening.

  12. I may be mixing up my cruise lines, but I believe the casino on the ship charges a 2% (maybe more) advance fee if you ask for money at the cage or tables. Buying the vouchers avoids that fee and eliminates the need to travel with a stack of cash.

  13. I'm with you on the reduced markup for the best wines. The prices on the good bottles are very fair.

A few times I've found that they have some good bottles stashed away that are not on the wine list at all. Once I found a a really nice Super Tuscan that according to the Sommelier they boarded for a special customer who didn't drink it all. You might get a blank stare asking about unlisted bottles in the MDR - and if you do, ask again in one of the specialty restaurants. You might be pleasantly surprised!

  14. This I great info! And thanks to the poster who did the math with the $160 savings. We are on a 15 day panama cruise in December and I'm going to sign up for the package.

The OP mentioned a platinum package. Does it really exist? I would imagine it would allow a higher max price per bottle.

    TIA
