  1. What company did you book thru for your wedding? Did you do a helicopter ride to the glacier if so how many people could fit onboard? Thanks

We used Alaska Weddings on Ice

    http://alaskaweddings.net

their website isn't the best, but they do a wonderful job.

We did a helicopter ride to the glacier, our helicopter had us, the pilot, the officiant, and our photographer. There may have been space for one more if we didn't have all the photographer's equipment. They can arrange for additional helicopters as needed.

look at chugachpeaks.com- go to wedding galleries- Juneau- juneau helicopter weddings- the top set is us, the bottom set is another couple, obviously, but the same company arranged for their wedding- the person that arranges everything is also the officiant.

  2. I am going on a Celebrity cruise and we will be in Juneau from 7 am to 830 pm. We have rented a car and will not be doing any organized tours. I've attached the info that the car rental company sent of Juneau with attractions listed. There are eight of us with different interests, but in general we like nature and scenery. There is a three year old so we can't do things like walk on a glacier. I have three questions: #1) Is it reasonable to tackle all the activities on the attached list under the heading "out the road" in the time we have? #2) Any activities that are not worth it or alternatively ones that aren't to be missed (I think we will definitely be going to the glacier and nugget falls trail). & #3) Any activities not on the list that should be?

Thank you very much for any help, this board and it's users have helped me plan so much up until now and for this I thank all of you!

I can't read your list, it's too fuzzy, but we were in Juneau this past May from 7-8. We got married on a glacier, so we were on the ship getting ready until we tendered around 10:30. We were done with our wedding around 1 pm and back at the airport. Our photographer had a rental and took us around Juneau from 1pm - 7pm and we were able to stop at: The Juneau Mine Ruins (had time to walk around the old buildings and beach part); The end of the road, we actually took a turn before some road work and found a small beach with rocks; a small park (again near the end of the road, but with a lake and beautiful views; we went to the "ski resort" just to take a peak and see what was there; had time to stop in a locals joint to pick up sandwiches to eat; had half an hour to watch bears cross the road; stopped at the Herbert River sign to get pics (we got married on the herbert glacier); Mendenhall Glacier; and we had time to run into the Red Dog Saloon and grab a beer. If you like nature and scenery, I would check out the mine ruins. It was one of our favorite spots....

  3. My husband and I sailed on an Alaskan cruise this year and had booked a mini-suite and were upgraded to a suite the night before the cruise. Our TA emailed us to let us know. We were getting married while in port and celebrating our honeymoon, so who knows if that has anything to do with it. We also booked about 9 months in advance....

  4. We leave in 13 days! We are getting married while in port in Juneau, so I can't answer your questions regarding embarkation or at sea. If you have any questions pop up about port days, let me know and I can try to answer any questions.

Take a look at royal wed.com If you get married on a sea day or at embarkation, these people handle weddings for the cruise lines (Carnival, Princess, HAL, and a couple of others). You can go through them for port days as well, but we opted for more variety and choice and didn't go with them.

    Congrats!

  5. I don't have a soy allergy, but I do get allergy shots and have an allergy to nuts, shellfish, some fresh fruits, etc....

I hope you have talked to a doctor and they have given you something for your allergy (not sure what kind of reaction that you have gotten, but if severe enough, would want to make sure you have an epi-pen available, i have developed additional allergies over time and the severity has increased as well to some).

That being said, we will be on our first cruise in two weeks. In traveling, I always make sure i have Children's liquid Benadryl. When I feel a reaction come on, I take this and its fast acting and it will more often than not, eliminate the need to use my epi-pen. (granted not always the case, i have had to use epi and go to the er). I would talk to your doctor (again not sure how your soy allergy affects you other than the GI issues) but may be good to have on the ship in case you cannot precisely decipher what is in the food you will be eating. I submitted the allergy information to Princess for the cruise and received a response that they are now aware, but to remind the waitstaff regarding any allergy. Also, it was suggested to eat in the main dining rooms where they have more control over what you are eating versus eating in the buffet.

  6. What kind of experiences have you had on board for updos? I am getting married while in port in Juneau and would like to get my hair done in the ship's salon, rather than leaving it down and straight like always.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

  7. My fiancé and I are getting married while in port in Juneau in May. We are having a photographer do a "walkabout" with us while in port after the ceremony. He is taking us to various places in Juneau, but I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions for must-do photo ops? He suggested the mine ruins/beach, Mendenhall, the tram. Any other ruins/historic buildings? (We love old building ruins). Thanks in advance!

  8. Thanks! I am not one for being the center of attention. That and the fact that we wanted a stress free wedding about us. Not one for everyone else. My parents are divorced and it gets awkward fast. We are having a BBQ when we get back for family. We are hiring a photographer for the ceremony and then he is taking us to various places while in port. He will document the whole day and we will do photo books for our parents and grandparents. That way they are still included. Where are you considering? Congrats?!

  9. We leave in 39 days for our alaskan cruise. We are getting married in port. Taking a helicopter to a glacier and getting married on a glacier. Family isn't too thrilled but for us, just the two of us has been the best idea ever. Low key. Relaxed. And stress free. We got in touch with a wedding coordinator from the area, it was cheaper and more flexible than the ships in port package.

  10. Ok I am looking for a pair of Gold dressy sandals. 3-4 inch heels. I don't care about quality so much as inexpensive (I'm not going to wear them often). I checked Marshalls ,Ross ,k-mart ,payless ,target...any other ideas?

I usually buy 5 inch heels but I'm tired of sore feet on my cruise and I can't walk in kitten heels and flats are a no no for me ,I'm short and I don't like flats with nice dresses.

not sure how inexpensive is inexpensive, but shipping is free...

  11. We just visited our last spot today. Seems like most of the places in our area leave at night. There is advantages to different ones. Of course the best would be if we could find a in home care place. I am jealous of the places some of you have.

I would seriously consider doing a search on Dogvacay. The persons are usually owners of pets. Depending on the area you live you can find someone that is home 24/7 and I find that this is cheaper than any boarding facility. The sitter sets the price, you can do meet and greets. They are also 100% insured. They are also required to send you a picture update via email or text everyday, just to show you how your pets are doing. I drive an hour to go to my pup's sitter, but is worth every minute of the drive.

  12. If you are planning a walking tour of Victoria, do not overlook Government House, the home of the Queen's representative - the grounds are open from sunrise to sunset with no charge. The grounds are maintained by volunteers and the gardens are wonderful. There is also a very nice tea room in one of the refurbished buildings on the lower grounds.

It is a great opportunity to see how the top of the other half lives.

You could walk along Dallas Road to Beacon Hill Park, spend some time there, walk through a residential area to Government House, then go to Craigdarroch Castle (built by a coal baron) and then walk to downtown Victoria. From downtown keep the water on your right and you will find a pleasant waterfront walk back to Ogden Point where you docked.

This could easily use up all of your time in port.

Thanks for the tip on the Government House. Originally we were going to shuttle into Victoria, but seeing the couple comments, we will nix the shuttle and walk around. Thanks for the tips!

  13. Are you on the Star Princess - if so I am on that one as well.

A few of the shops selling trinkets may open early and while Victoria is a popular tourist destination the fact remains that it is government town and the tourist season won't be in full swing for a couple more weeks.

A walk into town along the waterfront or a visit to Beacon Hill Park is what I intend to do if the weather is favorable.

    Cheers!

    Dennis

    Hi Dennis

Yes we are on the Star as well. Anxiously awaiting...

  14. We will be in Port in May...but on a Sunday from 7-2. I see the gardens open at 9 and most tours start at 9. Is anything in Victoria open on a Sunday prior to 9? Or are we better off doing a walking tour to see buildings, etc? What about shops? Do they open later on Sundays?

    Thanks for any advice/suggestions.

  15. I am guessing the days of priority boarding with a wedding gown are fading fast. Several of the airlines are now "enforcing" existing rules for carry on luggage. Here's an article with some details....

    I'm flying United :-(

I still haven't figured out if I want to ditch the dress for souvenirs. I know the dress will get trashed- we are getting married on a glacier in alaska and then trekking around with our photographer for hours. I still can't figure out if it is worth it, but afraid if I don't bring it back, I'll regret it...

  16. Hi Sis,

Sorry I have been missing in action. We just arrived in Sydney. The internet is supper fast here and it's free -:). Anyway, did you fine a gown for your neighbor? If not please email me your address or her address I will order her one from Saks. I have a soft spot for kid -:). Beside is over paid Saks, they own me few hundred dollars. I'm going to look for the dress now.

    Hugs

    Marie

Wow Marie. Just reading through the posts. Your generosity is amazing, especially in this day and age. What a wonderful gesture.

  17. Ladies, What are you doing with your dress after the ceremony? Trashing it and leaving it behind or packing it away to come back home with you?

I figure I can leave it behind and have room for more goodies to bring home....we are walking around Juneau for 5 hours after our ceremony with our photographer, so I figure the dress will be pretty trashed....but not sure if I can actually part with it.....

  18. My fiancé and I are getting married on a glacier while in Juneau in May. We are excited, first cruise for both of us.

I am getting a little nervous. We found out that Juneau will be a tender port and have heard horrible things about the tender process. For those of you who have cruised before, is tendering a nightmare process? We are due in to Juneau at 8 and our Limo is scheduled to pick us up at 11 at the dock, is this enough time for us to get off of the ship?

  19. How long does it normally take to tender?

My fiance and I are getting married in Juneau in May. Our ship will be in port at 8 am and we have a scheduled pick up at 11am at the docks. Will this be enough time? We are not getting married through the cruise line....

Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
