I haven't sailed on Grand for awhile, but it has the typical Princess Grand-class locker room/steam room/sauna set up that is on all Grand-class ships (i.e. men on starboard side; women on port side) Towels, showers and wash basins are available, and there is no charge for any of the above. Just ask for a locker key at the spa reception desk, and the locker room entrance is just around the corner. Enjoy.

Actually, Grand Princess is slightly different that others of her class.  The doors to the single sex sauna/steam are in  public areas by the pool, one at each of the corners of the pool.  The signs designating MEN or WOMAN are often overlooked meaning people have barged into the wrong one.

This was as of my May 2017 cruise to Alaska.  So the location means bundling up to go from the locker room, outside in the elements by the outdoor pool, to gain entrance.

So it's quite different from Crown, Emerald, Ruby, and Caribbean Princess.

  2. Hate the folks in swimming attire in the buffet.

I saw a kid throw up in a cabin hallway as the mom was dragging them off to somewhere. They didn't stop to clean up nor alert the steward that was around the corner. I did. This was on a Disney cruise.

Saw two gross scenes in ladies rooms. One was off the Lido deck pool area and was a trash can filled with throw up. Other was a toilet near the casino that was loaded to the max with...won't go into any more details on that one. Except to say there was no toilet paper in there. Makes one wonder. These were both on Carnival.

    Details, please!

Are we talking TransAtlantic Cable, circling the circumference

    or

    Chocolate Fondue Pot?

  3. Nope - no complimentary steam room or sauna area on the royal class ships (Regal and Royal princess).

There is what they call the Enclave within the Lotus spa on deck 5 forward. Probably the most impressive of any princess ships with a nice hot (and large) spa with various water massaging jets, and fountains, and seating. Ceramic beds (but cold ones), 2 very hot steam type areas and a cool sauna type area. Water beds, cold towels etc.

Problem is that it is deck 5 forward on this ship, and not complimentary, quite expensive infact (although best Princess sauna/steam type area). The other problem is that the Gym is on deck 17 Aft, with 2 small change rooms (male/female) with no sauna, steam.

I must prefer the Grand Class princess ships, as they have the complimentary steam room and sauna in the men's change areas, as well as the Thermal suite (area of steam rooms and warm ceramic beds for a fee, or complimentary with a Spa treatment), the Gym and the Adults only pool and spas...all in the same area so you can migrate between them all easily without going into other public areas of the ship (ie - like the Ruby you travelled on previously.)

I agree with you on preferring Grand Class ships. While as a whole, Regal Princess is just "over the top," in many respects, The Enclave was a disappointment. Perhaps on my Dec 2014 cruise they were still getting some of the bugs worked out, but one room wasn't functioning properly for the first few days nor were two of the "rain showers"

Yes, the "pool" with showers and jets of water and bubbles was an INSTANT SELLER: staff that brought in people in for a tour hoping to sign them up usually just needed to walk them in and let them see it.

HOWEVER.... by the second day I realized that pool was nothing more than a bubbling cauldron of urine and sweat! I watched MANY people exit a sauna or steam room and just plop in without a shower. Between that and the straight couple that must have forgotten that they'd have more privacy in their cabin than the large stone in the one sauna where they were getting frisky..... I didn't go back.

  4. I've looked at the deck plans, but can't determine if Regal Princess offers either or both free sauna and steam rooms to sweat out the previous night's alcohol.

Related, for 7 day cruises, do they offer a Thermal Suite package, and what is the cost?

Answers from any recently on board would be appreciated. Thank you.

  5. On my last TA on arrival into America the US immigration service started asking me the usual questions. So you're travelling alone? Guess I was profiled as single male in 30s why would they travel alone.

I was on Epic at the time. I replied, thus ship has 128 "singles" cabins.

To which he could only smile and say "good answer" and stamped my passport!

    :D

To the "travelling alone" question I've sometimes been tempted to respond: "No, I'm with my right hand," as I hold up my hand.

I can't agree more with all the other posters! Taking a cruise is very social, as everyone is typically excited and relaxed. Whether it's enjoying a meal at a community table, attending a group event, or simply standing in a line, it's so easy to strike up a conversation. And in the very odd chance that you're sitting at a table with a grump or complainer, no worries, as you'll probably never see them again after the hour you spend with them.

Yet for the times you want to be "alone" you can sit by yourself for a meal, curl up with a book in a quiet space somewhere, or put on headsets with your device while doing a Sudoku.... and none of those "alone" things have to be done in the cabin.
