Does anyone have any concrete information on the possibility of my August 16th cruise out of NJ still happening?  We already lost out on a cruise in March.  Have a November cruise out of Florida planned.   Fingers crossed on that 1 as well.

Thanks for any information you can provide that is fact and not speculation.

Welcome Stew.  I wish I had some info for you.  I'm on the August 9 cruise out of NJ.  I keep looking at my reservation but haven't seen anything.  We had 5 cabins booked and 3 of our group canceled before their final payment was due.  My brother and I paid up.  While Cruise Critic is a rumor mill, it's still a great resource.  There's nothing to do but wait now.

We are going on the Oasis and it's been awhile since we've sailed RCCL. Is dress slack and dress shirt ok for all of the dining venues or does he need a tie and jacket?

I usually wear a jacket and tie on formal nights, leave the tie in the cabin for semi and wear just a golf shirt and Dockers for casual. My wife and I always go carry-on only when we travel. I only bring one jacket, 2 ties and a couple pairs of pants for a 7-day. We're in shorts and t-shirts the rest of the time.

  3. Just saw this on RCI's website:

Royal Caribbean Announces Global Suspension Of Cruising

At Royal Caribbean International, our guests and crew's safety and well-being are always our top priorities. After further consulting with our partners at Cruise Lines International Association and in conjunction with the CDC, we have decided to extend the suspension of sailings for our global fleet for all sailings through July 31st, 2020. Our goal is to resume operations on August 1st, 2020. (China sailings will be suspended through June 30th, 2020).

Why do you care what other people wear?

Trey420 nailed it. It shouldn’t matter to you what I think. It’s just an opinion. Apparently, I’m the only one who feels this way anyway.

Look...I’m a golfer. Most golf courses have a dress code too. No to t-shirts, jeans, cut-offs, etc. I dress appropriately on the golf course too. The person in a t-shirt is probably really nice and certainly a much better golfer but, much like on formal night, I feel the look cheapens my experience.

Judging from the comments here, I’m a frumpy, hopeless, rule-obeying nerd so you definitely shouldn’t care what I think. 😀

  5. It’s very disappointing the way some people dress on formal nights. When you’re sitting at a group table, you should show a little respect for others. While I don’t wear my tux anymore, I wear at least a jacket and tie on formal nights. We request not to be seated at a table with anyone wearing shorts or a t-shirt. They always accommodate us.

  6. My wife and I will be in Cozumel on Carnival in January.  I’ve been there many times and usually catch a taxi to Chankanaab.  The vegetation just off the beach is teeming with iguanas.  On a visit there, many years ago, I thought it would be fun to feed them.  I had heard they love bananas.  They do, in fact, LOVE bananas.  Being the idiot that I am, I paid no attention to the warnings not to feed them.  I brought a couple bananas from the ship (also a very bad idea).  I had to see the doctor on the ship that afternoon to clean out the bite and to get a tetanus shot.  I probably got off easy.  Bringing fruits or vegetables off the ship was a worse idea than feeding the iguanas.  I wouldn’t recommend either one.

  7. Several years ago I attended a burial at sea on a Royal Caribbean ship. The ashes were scattered from a crew only area in the aft part of the ship. The ceremony was beautiful. There was a ship's officer (not sure who) and a violinist present. RCCL provided us each with a flower to throw overboard.

Next month I will be scattering my mother's ashes from Allure. I have a letter from RCCL granting permission and have purchased a biodegradable urn. My question is what to do about gratuities for the ceremony. I'm not sure if the officers will accept them but think I will offer anyway. I certainly will tip the violinist. Anyone have any idea what appropriate amounts would be?
