I have never seen people begging for food... where do you walk to see this?

I noticed it at the buffet in Columbus Cove sitting at the picnic tables, it wasn’t inside the fence but rather outside the fence, sorry I wasn’t clear about that.  Over the fence there was a rock mountain like formation and several people were sitting on trying to get passengers  attention, by yelling, pointing and doing a eating sign with their hands to their mouth. I sadly looked and turned the other way. I know there was nothing I could do but still sad.

  2. I actually saw a guard throw a vendor on the ground and take him away after he touched a passage on the arm, not in a mean way, but to get the passengers attention. Yes, the vendors are pushy but I do feel the security has the passengers safety in mind. This was about 13 years ago.

In August I noticed the vendors family members were able to eat at the buffet, they wore a yellow shirt and a visitor badge, with their vendor parent/spouse, but everyone was polite and no one was trying to sell anything at the buffet.

Speaking of the buffet, I agree it wasn’t very good, and I wasted a lot of food, it was sad to see people opposite the fence begging for food while I wasted it.

I can tell you firsthand how strict they are.  My son bought the UDP package on Oasis from a kiosk in the promenade.  The person selling the package handed the Coke cup to his 12 year old daughter and pointed over to the freestyle machine next to Sorrento's so she could fill it up.  They really care much less about sharing then the beverage police here on CC. happy guilt free cruising.  I need to find my rumrunners.

I had the same experience on Oasis. My husband and I both had the drink package and my children did not have any packages. At dinner the bartender took my husband and my drink order then suggested I order soda for the kids to which I informed my kids to do have the package. The bartender told me not to worry since we had the package they are free to order soda for them. So each night they had a soda  waiting for them at dinner. Now I didn’t try to cheat the the system the bartender suggested it, of course the gesture was appreciated by family. Maybe it’s different with alcoholic beverages?

  4. Regarding the camera the same exact thing happened to me on my Oasis cruise this summer. My camera was a Sony waterproof. It was working ok until we hit St Marteen, and the pictures gradually got lighter as the day went on, when I attempted to use it in the ocean it went kaput. Granted, my camera was about 5 years old. But I called Sony when I returned anyway. Basically I was told the screen is waterproof but the inside isn’t and somehow water had gotten in the inside. I did charge it the day before so maybe I didn’t close it all the way? I have since bought a new camera. And can’t wait to use it.

Hopefully you have better luck than I did with the camera. I am enjoying your review, my family will sail this ship in 2020.

  5. I don’t love my “sale” price of $49 per person for the drink package, but this is the lowest I have seen it. If I decide to book it at this price and use my $200 OBC, then find a lower price in the future and cancel and rebook does my OBC automatically go back into my cruise planner? Or will be be a big cluster getting the OBC back into my account? Thanks

  6. On Oasis last month my husband was able to order a few dirty bananas. All were ordered at the pool bar. Honestly I tried it and didn’t care for it, and I remember liking it in the past. Maybe the bartender improvised the recipe?

DH loves dirty bananas but you can't get them on RCI anymore. At least he was told they don't carry the mix anymore since they changed from Island Oasis.

Mine used to be Miami Vice, but I rarely get a blender drink anymore due to calories, but when I do, it's a mudslide, usually about mid-cruise.

  7. I went on Oasis in August and utilized the after hours with my 8 year old twin sons a couple of nights. It was $7 hour. My kids loved it and begged to stay, most nights. There definitely was no sleeping involved in fact it was pretty noisy. They mixed the two older age groups together and had planned activities such as some type of ball game and bingo. There were a lot of kids on my sailing but every given night there was about 25-30 kids after hours.

  8. The people on this forum that defend the cruise line to the very end amaze me. “It’s in the contact” so what?!?!?! My god. This is tourism and hospitality. Those “rules” are made by the line and absolutely can be broken by then with not costing the company anything. The only two industries I have found to hold people to the contract that it is law are cruise lines and airlines.

This is why I travel with Disney so much. They go above and beyond almost always and break the “rules” that they have in place for great customer service.

Perfect example my wife and I did the Disney Marathon in January. We waited too long to order pictures from the event. Disney only holds them for 45 days. Now on their website they say they charge an expiration extension fee of like $25 and this can only be done once. We called and they reinstated the photos for us immediately and NEVER brought up the fee (Royal would of charged the fee in a heartbeat).

So we buy the photos for $70 but whoops, I’m an idiot and I don’t download them from the site to my computer soon enough and they were deleted. I called yesterday and after 45 seconds on the phone with a cast member I had my photos reinstated a second time with no mention of the fee.

Now Disney could of charged me $25 the first time and then told me there was nothing they could do the second time because remember their rule is not to extend twice. But they did. Why? Because they actually care about guest service.

I say all this because these rules are made by these industries and can be so easily not enforced. It’s about putting guest service above profit.

Just to let you know the refund can take a week to process through any hospitality company Disney included, which has nothing to do with their customer service or "bending the rules". Last year my family and I booked a Disney hotel and put a $250 deposit down, well a few weeks later a better hotel opened up for a decent price and we switched our reservation. By switching the reservation I had to put another $250 down immediately and cancel my other reservation, and the cast member informed me I would get my refund in a week or so, which I did. I never expected anything type of compensation for waiting and understood that this is just standard procedure with any type of company. Just because the name Disney is attached doesn't mean bank and credit card rules will change.

  9. I have never been on the Jewel, however assuming all RCCL kid's club programs are run the same, the first night the program is 8-10 (also open after 10 for a fee). Then every other night it is open from 7-10. My family time dining was great on the Allure, went to 6 pm dining then they got my kids and took them up to the kids club by 6:45. The wait staff knew this so they had a meal waiting for my kids before we even arrived.

  10. Hi Everyone,

What is the maximum table size my family can request for the main dining room on Oasis? There will be 12 of us, can they fit us all or split us up?

Also it's been 3 years but on the Allure my children took part in my family dining which picked the kids up from dinner and brought them to the kids club after a quick 45 minute dinner. Does Royal still offer this and is there a particular time on the Oasis I need to pick? I know for Allure it was the traditional 6 pm dining. Thank for the help :D

  11. Hi everyone,

I am new to NCL but not new to cruising, I am getting excited about trying out something different and new. I was wondering if anyone can help answer a few questions I have specific to the cruise line. We are going on the Getaway 8/29, so not much longer to go!

There will be 9 of us in our party, I am looking to reserve dinner reservations and the tables come in even numbers(2,4,6,8,10 people) If I reserve 10 person table and lets say two don't show up, will they not seat us or make us wait until a 8 person table opens up?

Also I am looking to make reservations to the comedy show and the show is not listed under the entertainment, however 5 other shows are listed. Could the show be sold out? If so is their any other way to reserve seats or get in?

Any insight would be great. Thanks in advance.

  12. My 5 year old twin boys enjoyed Playa Mia Beach Break in Cozumel and in Falmouth we stayed in port and went to Margaritaville. We went on Allure so we did not visit Grand Cayman

Playa Mia was pricey but a lot was included, we had the beach, a kids splash park with water slides, water trampolines and paddle boats, several pools, lunch and an open bar was also included.

Margaritaville is right in port and they have a really nice pool that was free to use.

  13. Thanks for the tips and pointers everyone, I will check periodically until the cruise. But it seems like based on what everyone has said I will have no problem booking on the ship. When I called Royal, I was told it was probably booked up, but based on what you guys all said I don't think that is the case.

    Thanks again

  14. Hi Everyone,

I have a question regarding the fiesta I am hoping someone can help me with. Does any recent Allure cruisers know if the fiesta is still offered? If so how far in advance did you book it?

I would like to do it but can not find anywhere to reserve it online. All the other restaurant reservations are showing up online. I called and spoke with two different reps at Royal who were not able to locate it either, one of them even went as far as saying he didn't know if it was even offered anymore.

Any insight or advice anyone has would be greatly appreciated. We leave on 11/16

    Thanks in advance
