  1. I'm sure all those people that lost something or someone due to the storm truly feel sorry for your cruise being delayed a few hours.

Yes, everyone please stop posting about your cruise experiences! People are suffering elsewhere in the world!

  2. How many ships are they doing this to (out of 25)?

I think Valor and Splendor are losing a pool and hot tub to make room for bigger waterworks. Vista and Horizon (if same as Vista) pools and hot tubs are laughably small and few compared to competitors. This trend has to stop or it will effect most of the 25 ships. What's next, the almost universally hated Liquid Lounge for all ships next dry dock?

  3. Just got off the Vista, everything was great. Lol, I was not sure the comedy hour had begun. Assuming you are at least part way serious, was not sure where you are getting your facts from. I can list the points if you want, if your joking fine.

Us too, from February... Great trip! Actually did a back-to-back with a Havana cabin followed by regular cabin. The first week was MUCH better! :)

Just underwhelmed lately by Carnival's "innovations" on Vista and recent announcements. I feel the Vista was actually a downgrade from the Dream class, and mostly just larger to fit more people without enlarging public spaces to match. Maybe I'm just a little grumpy 'cause I'm not on a cruise right now! :D

  4. I think it's about the money. It's always about the money. If they can get 3-4 or even 5 people in a cabin instead of 2, why wouldn't they cater to the families? I just hope the kids stay out of the bars and clubs and then they won't bother me.

Oh, for sure it's the money, just not liking this direction. It's OK to be family friendly, and I usually don't mind well-behaved kids having fun, I just think it's gone way too far. I actually like water slides and use them on every cruise, but really don't care for making the whole ship look like romper room, and have screaming kids diving in the only 3 hot tubs available to 4,000+ people. More adult-only (or at least teenager+) amenities are required to replace what's being converted to kiddie-ville. It's only fair, right?

  5. As a recently platinum Carnival fan, I'm starting to get concerned... What used to be a cruise line targeted mostly to young(ish) couples (like my wife and I), singles, and groups looking for good old Adult fun (sunning, soaking, socializing, drinking, gambling, exploring, you know - cruising!) seems to have been hijacked by young families with children turning the ships into daycare-at-sea.

No more adult pools, no enforcement of age limits on hot tubs, waterparks where additional pools used to be, Dr. Seuss taking over everything, My Little Pony, Transformers, IMAX theaters instead of Grand Atriums, ...etc, etc, etc.

What attention have Adults gotten lately? A very, very limited number of Havana cabins (awesome, but good luck booking one). What's happened to our favorite cruise line? Will they open up their rewards to other brands that haven't gone so kid-centric?

  6. I can totally see that point (and I used to think the same thing), but the whole idea behind staggered check in is to keep everyone from showing up at once causing delays like before. So if all the Priority people chose later times, and they along with the scheduled people showed up first thing, it defeats the purpose. That's why they ask people to select which time they anticipate to arrive. It makes sense if you think about it. As having experienced staggered check in myself, I can attest that it is much better with no lines. Please select the time in which you you wish to check in so that it works as designed.

Exactly! Why would I not block out my preferred time and help the process? I get priority check-in, but everyone has to stand around somewhere to get on the ship at some point.

  7. I'd like to know this as well...

I order Long Islands (typically 4-5oz in a 16oz cup) by the pool and they only count as one drink.

    Some quirky rules to remember:

    - No doubles

    - One drink at a time with at least 5min between (shot+chaser takes some pre-planning)

    - If you manage to get to drink 14 (oops, how'd that happen?) and would like to purchase a few later on, buy your next drinks "for a friend" because at 15 the system will lock you out of ALL alcohol orders (bartender cannot override this, so can't tip your way around the rules either!).

    - If you earned free drinks in the casino, I noticed it doesn't always count in your drink total for Cheers - not sure what triggers that and why not always the case.

    Cheers!

  8. Once you hit 15, they won't even let you use your free drink coupon so make sure you pay attention to what number of drinks you are on.

Overheard a group on the Miracle making fun of their friend because he hit the 15 limit and were cut-off... At 10am!

Unless you're approaching it as a drinking challenge, it's hard to casually drink your way to 15. Only did that once (or twice, but who's counting :P).

BTW - Alchemy makes Cheers a great deal. Also, for non-Cheers, best deal for beer by the pool: Ask for a Fosters can in a bucket of ice. :D

  9. Actually, I don't mind people's opinions at all, in fact I find it very entertaining to read the comments. The point was cruising seems to be a very polarizing topic (has been for years - that's where the old thread was dug-up :) ), and even strikes a raw nerve with some for apparently no personal reason or experience. Carnival especially, but I can see that being another topic entirely with all the negative press. So yeah, why would you go on ships that catch fire and make everyone sick? Stay home, more room for me! ;)

  10. At GS on the Carnival Miracle I walked around a very long line to the empty Platinum line because I paid extra for FTTF (one of the obvious perks). When called to the desk, a guest standing a few spots back in the regular line blocked my path and loudly protested that there are people ahead of me, so the staff calmly informed her that I had FTTF. Two other FTTF holders in the regular line overheard this, and immediately realized they could cut too, jumped in the Platinum line as well, and were also helped before her. :) Ah, justice.

  11. The mystery for me as a travel industry digital marketing professional (and why I found this thread in research) is why so many people that have never been on a cruise feel so urgently compelled to post how much cruises suck on every single article you see in the news. Just saw two stories on USA today about Carnival and the first posts were "new floating petri dish!" and "Walmart vacation!" from admitted non-cruisers. Really, did we ask you? The cruise trolls are unreal!

You never see articles about skiing with comments like "Yeah, go freeze your *ss off losers!" Or new articles about new hotels with comments like "Oh cool, more bed bugs!"

Weird. Is it a jealous response at something they feel is elitist? I don't get it.
