My guess is that elevation to Elite status would be viable only for the one cruise in question. Here's why. The number of nights you have cruised and points you have earned are carefully  tracked by Captain's Club. If you claim Elite status, but have, let's say, no earned cruise points, your actual status will be questioned.

I wouldn't necessarily say carefully tracked. Logged in this am to discover my email account had been reassigned to my husband and 3 cruises had disappeared and Captains Club status has chnged! I addition one cruise shows one point on the screen and the rep said that converts to 30...so why not show 30...and it should be more than 30 as it wasn't a standard verandah. One of the 3 missing she says appears on her screen as no ship name and 1 point =30. Here's the issue it was a full suite as well as the other two that are completey gone from the system.

Just off Royal.  Traditional dining times were 5:15, 5:30, and 7:15.  Production shows in the theater were at 8pm and 10pm.  The main difference I saw and was astounded was that if you wanted ANY seat anywhere for the 8PM show, getting there at 7:30-7:35pm you were out of luck!!  Seems the early traditional dining crowd would eat dinner and then go directly to the theater and sit there for an hour or so!  Ridiculous.  We missed a couple of shows due to this as I am not a 10pm go to production show person.  So be prepared!

    Pooh

Thanks for the update!  Our workday at home begins normally at 4am....so I have a feeling we'll never make it to the 10pm shows unless we plan on sleeping in the theater.

It would help eliminate some of the confusion if those of on same sailing - were seeing the same options.

There is still no option for me to select a later dining time other than 8:15 PM yet one other person on my sailing in November 2019 has already seen the change to 7:15 PM  :classic_huh:

For some odd reason....once I cleared my cache and re logged in the other night....my options changed. I may have just done it as they were updating the site....but hey....worth a try:classic_unsure:

  4. We just got off B2B on Summit yesterday. The first week the water did smell bad in the restaurant and also in the Aqua Café. I could not drink it, not because it tasted bad but because of the smell.

However, you'll be happy to hear that the second week the water problem just went away and hopefully they did something to fix what was wrong but I would say there was definitely off with the water on our first week (13 May) of the cruise.

Glad to hear the water seems to be resolved. We leave next week....and I'm a big water drinker.

  5. Have you priced a Disney cruise lately? There are plenty of people who would happily sail out of Canaveral and pay premium prices to do so.

Also RCCL Oasis, NCL Epic, Carnival Magic are not on the budget spectrum cruising out of Port Canaveral. It's my back yard....and it is cheaper for me to cruise Princess out of Ft Lauderdale and Celebrity out of Miami. The only budget cruises out of Port C is one of the old Carnival ships.

  6. Concerning the bus and ferry service - we didn't use the bus service but did use the ferry to go to Hamilton. The first day, shortly after disembarking the lines for the ferry for awful. After that not bad at all. The service was about every 45 minutes. The schedule for both bus and ferry is posted next to the ferry terminal.

Glad to hear! The reports of bus and ferry slow downs had me a bit concerned.

  7. Hello! We just booked a 12-day Cruise out of Cape Liberty on the Anthem leaving Jan. 6th for 2 people. We are driving down from RI the day before. We booked the Crown Plaza near the airport through trinity reservations for Jan. 5th which allows us to park our car there for free for the duration of the cruise and also provides free shuttle to the Cruise Port. Has anyone stayed here before? Is this a decent hotel? We are thinking of going into NYC for the day on the 5th so I am assuming it would be best to get transportation into the City from the Newark Airport? I am completely unfamiliar with the area so any advice would be greatly appreciated! :)[/quo

Crown Plaza is good....we used them once before with Trinity up there when traveling with friends. No worries. FYI we use trinity a lot down here also when flying out of Orlando to park and fly

    Which hotel?

  9. We also got off Summit yesterday and thought Blu was excellent. We normally ate between 6 and 6:30 and never had to wait. Seated right away and always with the same waiter,Yaser. Went around 7:30 one night and did get a beeper. Went and got a drink and were beeped before our drinks were finished. We really enjoyed Blu for the service, food and quiet. Everyone we sat close to were very friendly.

Quick question.... did they have embarkation lunch? Four years ago we did the Summit to Bermuda and we were a trial run for brunch/lunch and it was a great start! Hubs surprised me with a birthday trip coming up and I am hoping they have it again.

  10. Debsjc ... We are on the same ship and I am checking too. What I have seen so far is between $4-$7 cab fare depends on where we port.

Recent reports of Emerald beach open, beach bars and restaurants open. Beach in good condition but rocky entry.

    Chairs $7 umbrellas $10.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

It is the Emerald Beach resort....formerly the Best Western Resort. They have a website that give you numbers if you need a contact.

  11. I have to disgree with you on this. While I would agree that in some instances unions may have way too much power, there are also instances where if it weren't for unions, the working man would not have any power at all and would suffer greatly. Too much power in either direction is not a good thing. An example of a good policy was when I worked for a short period of time many years ago as a P.E. Aide at an elementary school in CA. I noticed on the first check I got that there was a deduction from my check for something I didn't recognize. When I asked about it I was told that it was the proportional share of the union dues for the teacher's union that paid for the contract negotiations that had to do with salary. That made sense to me that I should be charged for that since I benefited from those negotiations.

One thing I will say is that most of the longshoremen who work at Pier 91 in Seattle are pretty nice guys. There are some who are at the other end of the scale, but not many.

    Tom

I must say....the Pier 91 guys in Seattle have been the most polite group of porters we have ever seen stateside. 5 trips out of Seattle never an issue. Bayonne...super polite to the point that people seemed startled by it. Port Canaveral has a no tolerance stance for the behavior...however as they grow...we will see.

On the other hand Port Everglades has been a crap shoot the last 7 yrs. Cruised out 2x already this year. First trip in Jan super pleasant Pier 4....Feb 2 at pier 2 we witnessed a porter intimidate an elderly couple. It was absolutely unacceptable...and yes I reported to the port authority.

  12. Sitting at wheelhouse. Bartender is great and doing magic tricks.

Can’t believe how some people were yelling at the bartenders at crooners after muster. Like seriously, I get you want a drink but you aren’t dying of thirst?!! Evidently they sold a lot of cabins for really cheap, little bit different of a crowd.

Have a great 5 days! We hit it lucky on our Jan 5 day cruise....seemed to be a lot of b2b or snowbirds cruising till their rentals were available. I was worried being our first short trip that it would be a different crowd than usual.

  13. Stopped at both this past Wed while cruising on the Crown. The taxi guys will tell you Emerald is closed... not true! Emerald Beach Resort is operating...used to be the Best Western. Friendly staff...and water was clear and calm. Sapphire was in rough shape but trying really really hard...still no power and very little shade with no umbrellas. The surf at Sapphire was really rough but water clear. I was scoping spots for a trip that was originally slated for St John next month.
