  1. The arrival time is 7.  Out of Galveston the ports are basically the same so it's not because the ship is heading to a far away destination..  I've checked the Freedom and she leaves at 3 too.  However RCI liberty is in port from 7 to 430.  My husband doesn't think this is a big deal but that extra 1.5 hours on a beach day afternoon in January is almost enough reason for me to go with the Liberty.  Ugghh!  What are your thoughts?  Would this be a deciding factor for you?  It surprises me how much more expensive liberty is vs vista.

  2. I'm looking at a Vista sailing for January 2020 and I just noticed that the ship leaves cozumel at 3p.  That seems to be a much shorter time than I recall.  Is there a reason for this?  I see they have a couple extended stay times but those dates aren't what we want.  A 3p departure seems odd for cozumel.  Thoughts?

  3. Greetings!

We are looking to do a family cruise over Christmas 2019 and I've narrowed it down to the Allure or Oasis.  The Allure's itinerary is more appealing to us but I'm concerned that we'd be sailing right before she goes into dry dock.  What are your thoughts on this?  Should we choose Oasis since it will already have had the refurb or go with Allure?  It seems that the changes will be quite significant.  Thank you for the feedback!

  4. Oops... Sorry for putting the wrong date in my original post. We are looking at the summer of 2019 not 2018. Thanks for the feedback on the differences especially regarding the covered pool and promenade deck.

On the website there is a different deck plan starting the summer of 2019. Does anyone know if there will be any significant changes made when she moves to Alaska? A covered pool and promenade deck maybe lol? Sounds like that would be the best of both worlds!

  5. We are thinking of doing same thing summer 2019. Have been on Royal & Golden and just off Regal, our vote would be Royal. Some in our gang want the Sipnsail again, so we may have to hold off for a bit.

You spoke of changes, would that be due to notation on a Princess website of clicking on (I believe) cruises after May 2019 or have you seen something else?

Sent from my iPad using Forums

Yes, there are different deck plans based on sail dates. I wonder what's changing, if anything?

  6. Yes, we are looking at the summer of 2019... Never too early to start planning, right?! 😎😎

So looking for opinions on Royal vs Golden since they both have the same itinerary, that I can see. Also, from the website it looks like the Royal might be getting some changes over the next year but I can't be for certain! :)

  7. Greetings!

It's been a while since we've cruised and we'd be newbies to Princess! We're looking at a multi generational Alaskan August 2018 sailing. I've narrowed it down to the Golden vs Royal Princess since we want a Saturday sail date.

The itineraries appear identical that I can see so I was hoping for some feedback as to which would be best for a group of all age groups. The youngest would be 6 and the oldest 78.

We've cruised Carnival, RC, and Holland in the past with Holland being our favorite for adults and carnival for a family. I'd love to hear the major differences between Princess and those 2 lines.

We're still in very early planning phase so any tips would be appreciated!

  8. I think I might be confusing my question :o I just want to know if you can walk all the way around the UPPER PROMENADE deck on the Noordam - ie is there a public deck that wraps the entire UPPER PROMENADE? I can't be for certain from the pictures on the deck plans on the website. It looks from the pictures that the only deck area is in front of the cabins, not under the life boat area.

Does anyone so for sure? Thank you!!:)

  9. Yes, I see the Promenade Deck is completely walkaround, but what about the UPPER PROMENADE deck? Can you walk all the way around on this level? On the deck plan website, it doesn't look to be a complete wrap around, but I wanted to be certain. Sorry for the confusion and thank you for the clarification!!

  10. We are looking to book a cruise on the Noordam and have a few questions about the rooms. A few years a ago we sailed the Veendam and our room was on the Lower Promenade deck which was open to walk around.

I can't tell from the pictures whether the Upper Promenade on the Noordam is open to all or is it restricted to those with cabins in that area?

We had an obstructed outside room but we could go right out the door and be on the deck. I was trying to find a similar room on the Noordam. We don't spend a lot of time in the room so I don't really need a balcony; we for certain do not want inside because we enjoy natural light; but we like quick easy access to an outside deck.

Any suggestions on what might best suit our needs? Thank you for your expert advice!!:)

  11. Going to the Gran Caribe Real in December. Can anyone give me a review of what they thought of this hotel. Are the drinks weak or do they make them strong? Are the rooms really outdated or just average? How was the food? Lastly what kinda entertainment is at the resort and how far to Coco Bongo's or any of those kinda places.

Loved, Loved it!! DS got married there in November. The beach area is gorgeous. Main pool is on the small side. Food & drinks did not disappoint. We never ate in the specialty restaurants rather opted for the buffet areas.

We had been to the Grand Palladium a fews years ago and loved that resort as well. We enjoyed the variety at the Palladium but the intimacy of the Gran Carib Real.

The hotel is in walking distance of some shopping areas & there is also a bus that stops right in front of the hotel if Coco Bonga is not within walking distance.

There is not much night life at the hotel. The live entertainment ended around 10pm. You could enjoy that then head to the bars. Enjoy your trip!!

  12. I'm not sure if we are interested in the all inclusive food & drink. I am thinking about just doing the entrance & snorkel or kayak. We have our own snorkel gear.

I found a 15% off food/drink on the cozumelinsider website.

Are we allowed to bring our own bottled water in? I plan to eat there & have some drinks, but I really would love to bring my own water. Please let me know if this is acceptable!

  13. We will have a party of 13, ages ranging from 9 - 71. I am trying to decide between Chank Park & Play Uvas. Some mentioned that Playa Uvas is more "adult" oriented. We will have a 9, 10 & two 12 year olds with us. I don't like the "touristy" aspects of Chank (swimming w dolphins, sea lion show, etc). We just want to snorkel, swim & enjoy the day.

We have some beginner snorkelers, else I'd probably go to Dzul Ha or something.

How does the snorkeling at Playa Uvas compare to Chank. Park?

Could anyone tell me which would be a better choice for a group with a wide age range?

It is not economically feasible to visit both & pay entry fees at both places so I will just have to pick one place. Thanks for your help!

  14. Also, can you walk to the facilities of Chankanaab Park like the Lagoon or Dolphin Discovery since Playa Uvas is supposedly located in that vicinity?

My DD and I walked from Chankanaab Park to Playa Uvas. It is a very short walk and we felt safe. She is 16 and I am over 40;) and we didn't have any problems.

Is it really reasonable to walk to/from Chankanaab Park to Playa Uvas? We have a group of 13 people ranging in ages from 10 to 70. I was planning on going to Chank. Park, but after reading about Playa Uvas, I am a little torn. It would be great if these are within walking distance of each other.

    Thanks for your feedback!!

  15. Guess I'm just getting old, but we need to go to the main seating so we can to the early shows & I can head back to the cabin ;) We tried the late seating on our first cruise & I just found that getting throught the rest of the evening was a challange because I was so worn out.

Sometimes I go back to the cabin & my DH will go back to the casino or catch the late show.

We sail with our 7 & 9 year olds, so it works out good. By the time the Camp closes, I am ready to go back to the cabin.

Even without children though I would stick to the early seating because I am just not a night owl!
