  1. The Neptunes we had on our recent Statendam trip were absolutely excellent. Consistently the best entertainment to be found on the ship, in my opinion.

Our incarnation of the HALcats wasn't bad; the rest were mediocre at best.

  2. I also shave with double sided blades. What blades do you use? Most ones I use like Merkur and Feather have the used blade slot in the back. Even the cheapy CVS/Walgreen brand have the used blade slot in the back.

My favorites these days are Voskhods and Astras. They just come in little cardboard 5-packs, no used blade slot.

  3. How do you dispose of the blades at home? Could you use the same method if the sharps container isn't going to work out?

Sure, I can bring a container and dispose of them later. I'm just thinking ahead and wondering if it's necessary. I try to travel fairly minimalist when I can. Thanks!

  4. Hi, do the cabin bathrooms on HAL ships (specifically Statendam) have sharps containers? Or can they be requested?

It's not needles or anything; I'm a double-edge blade shaver, and I'm just wondering how best to dispose of used blades. I sailed with HAL a couple of years ago, but the question wasn't relevant then, so I never paid attention.

    Thanks in advance!

  5. I have slept on the sofa bed on the Rotterdam . Had no complaints, and I have slept on many sofa beds, will do so again in August , when we cruise to Alaska on the Statendam,

Agreed. I spent 23 nights on a sofa bed on the Rotterdam and did just fine. And oddly enough, I'll be doing it on the Statendam next, in April/May.

  6. I've cruised solo 3 times so far, and will certainly do it again. The first time I was in Tampa on business, and wanted to take a quick vacation while I was there. A 4-night cruise to Cozumel fit the bill nicely.

I wouldn't call myself shy, but I'm not overly gregarious either. I find it pretty easy to talk to people on cruises (solo or group) when I want to, but I'm also comfortable in my own company. I do try not to spend much time in my cabin.

My solo cruises have all been in the Caribbean, and I generally don't bother with excursions anymore, just do my own thing.

MDR dinner is the one aspect I've never really gotten comfortable with. I usually go one or two nights, but I never have much luck with table mates, so I generally go for the buffet instead.

I certainly would recommend going solo. The key is just to relax and have fun, not put pressure on yourself. You're on vacation!
