Is there a general guideline for how long before departure we should be back on the ship after a day in port? We obviously don't want to miss our ship, but we also don't want to return too early from an outing that we're really enjoying.

For those who have taken the train from Le Havre to Rouen, is it necessary/advisable to buy the tickets in advance online? DH and I want to get going as soon as we can get off the ship, but it sounds like we may be stymied by a lack of taxis at the port, and I wouldn't want to miss my, say, 8 a.m. train because I had to walk the mile and a half to the train station.
