Last week on the Breakaway, our cruise director was Merlina Stewart, from St Lucia. She was wonderful. The General Manager was Errol Bailey, and his assistant was Mariah Aragon. They treated us very well. I don't know if it was because I offered to host the Cruise Critic Meet & Mingle, but we ended up getting unexpected perks throughout the cruise, for free.

    Errol is great!

Starting to have second thoughts about my 10-day Europe cruise booked on the Escape. I've read many bad reviews citing the crowds and inability to get into shows or even elevators. Certainly there has to be some Encore lovers out there. If so, please tell me why you're a fan.

    Thanks.

I think I do. We have been on it 7 times full and not full but had a great time every time.

Looking straight down to the water is rare. This is an intentional aspect of many modern ships. For the Breakaway/Breakaway Plus ships, the best options to look straight down to the water are the forward sections of deck 8 as those balconies extend out. If you are above them, your view straight down will be of their balcony.

For the most part, side balconies will look straight down to the Waterfront, the awning above the Waterfront, or the lifeboats depending on the location and the ship.

    Thanks! Really appreciate your info.

None of them other than 13108/13708 are really obstructed even though the deck plan has the

    symbol in many places.

13340 (angled/larger balcony than standard) and 13356 (wider balcony than standard) are good choices and they also have the bed near the balcony which I prefer.

Is there a particular reason that you want deck 13? There are larger balcony options (some the same price) on other decks.

What are your preferences? Near elevator? Away from elevator? Bed location? etc.

    Two Wheels,

Thanks! When my wife books our cruises (I usually do), she just takes whatever they give her. We love the bed near the balcony and really don't care about elevator location. We just don't want a balcony looking down into another balcony and one we can see the water looking straight down.

    Thanks Again!!!

Like @saltsandknit and @ShelleyQT I clean my house. It's weird but it's something my mom used to do and now my sister and I both clean before going on vacation. I also typically don't cook the night before. I go out to eat or order in. I think that piggy backs on the clean house LOL

We do the same thing Jenny. Nothing like coming home to a spotless home after a great vacation.

There is substantial value to me to have a vacation experience where I'm assured to be surrounded by all vaccinated guests and staff most of whom are of similar values, beliefs and respect -- Those who vaccinate and nearly all consistently wear masks on board where required. I don't see the cost of an NCL cruise to be prohibitive nor do I know of an alternative vacation experience where I can selectively mingle with strangers or served by waitstaff and be assured they are vaccinated.

There are no guarantees. This is all about managing risk -- Of contracting the disease and potentially bringing it home to vulnerable family members or delaying my ability to care for them should I be quarantined.

I can't blame NCL for running their business. I think the choices they made make good business sense while giving consumers a 100% vaccinated, lower risk (not zero risk) vacation experience.

P.S. I sympathize with the folks whose cruises are cancelled or those whose cruises turn into cruises to nowhere. I guess they have better options and experience than those were are stranded over Christmas/New Years by the over a thousand(s) of cancelled flights. Relatively speaking, a cruise is the best and NCL my first choice not only for the safety and experience, but because they aren't illegally dumping and subsequently violating probation (hello CCL). Note: NCL voluntarily reported an improper discharge in Bahamian waters. CCL prefers to pay their fines rather that adhere to the terms of their probation.

    Well said!

Sorry misread what you said. But what you did say was that what I said is BS and it totally is not. What is BS is the treatment of paying passengers by NCL  who do get positive. Period.  I wasn’t quoting or questioning law. It wasn’t one employee that told us this. Maybe it is a scare tactic to get them to comply with the rules imposed by NCL. I can’t argue something I don’ know. I know we didn’t discuss sickness but the law that was quoted was in regard to sickness. Have a great day.

No, this was not directed at you. I was just saying that a lot of the information is not true. Sorry if you took it that way.

This is not true.  Under the Maritime Labor Convention of 2006, the shipowner is required to pay full wages to sick crew while they are onboard the ship, and pay wages in whole or part (depending on the law of the flag state and/or collective bargaining agreement) while landed for treatment.

Thanks for the accurate information. There is a ton of BS on these boards about this.

Without the actions that NCL has taken there would be no more cruises anyway; the CDC would see to that. You may never cruise with any line again if the CDC get their way; and, believe me, they will.

The only cruising you may be able to do is a cruise out of a foreign port that does not stop in any U.S. port.

This is false and you know it. Cruise lines will be able to cruise when it is appropriate and I'm fine with that.

While the news regarding the impact the vaccine is having and the lightening of the rules showed promise that I will not have a 5th cruise cancelled it does give me pause.

Not to get to political but...  Florida has the most cruise ports in the nation.  Do you believe the Biden administration will do anything that will help the state's economy?  A state which has weathered this pandemic better than most states while having the largest susceptibile population and for all intents and purposes remained open the entire time.  And it has a Republican Governor.

The dollars that will pour into Florida,  the number of people who will be able to return to work in the hotels and restaurants, etc. are not things that will reflect well on the democrats.

Oh how I hope I am wrong and the CDC will make scientific rather than political decisions.

Politics has nothing to do with this. You can post, but you should leave politics out of this.

One of the NCL ships had the AIS data reporting as "Fishing" in Port Canaveral, so hopefully this is just a spoof.

I think MSC has been holding up some ships on this side of the pond in hopes that they can resume sailing. So many things are unknown. I'm glad I am not making the decisions.

    0 ports???
