@Montevideo – Uruguai. A short direct flight from Rio (3 hours). This is not our first time here, so we came for relaxing and working (the good thing about home office: you can work from anywhere).

Good food, good wine, good weather, reasonable prices. What more could we ask for?

The view from our hotel room balcony......

I've been in Buenos Aires for the past 3 days and I'm blown away with this city, loving it all , the architecture,  the exceptionally wide avenues  the greenery, the food , the wine, the people.  It's my first time in South America and this certainly won't be the last time.

I'll put Uruguay on my new list.

Arrived at Sails in the Desert mid afternoon after a long couple of days capped off with a sprint from the far end of Melbourne T4 to the far end of T1 and back to identify my luggage. Jetstar! Long story.  Lovely resort. Managed to arrange a sunset helicopter ride of Kata Tjuta and Uluru. Utterly breathtaking but still hated making turns in the bloody thing. I Overheard the best 2 questions in the Restaurant ever earlier, I Won’t name the nationality of the culprit but in what must surely be one of the furthest places on earth from the Ocean he wanted to know if the swordfish was fresh or frozen. After learning it was frozen he decided against it and then asked the waitress what was the main difference between the beef burger and the barramundi burger. I Silently choked.  Pics only for now (of the tour, not of me choking) Vids will follow when I’m somewhere less dusty.

    Can you still climb Uluru?

I think I remember reading some years ago that they closed it  to tourists trecking up and down.

I have always had a thing for stars and our heavens.  Something new is coming.

"New telescope searching for unseen matter in our universe reveals stunning new images.
European Space Agency's Euclid telescope aims to create largest 3D map of universe.

Dark matter and dark energy make up roughly 95 per cent of our universe but can't be seen. In order to reveal their influence, over its six-year mission, the Euclid space telescope will observe the shapes, distances and motions of billions of galaxies out to 10 billion light-years and create the largest cosmic 3D map ever made. "

The images in the article are mesmerizing.

    Stunning, particularly the Horsehead Nebula.

When I first discovered Amarula the explanation for the elephant on the label was that they loved the marula fruit which apparently fermented during their digestion and made them tipsy.

It was a nice story to market the drink but unfortunately its been debunked as just an amusing myth.

Nonetheless I still want to believe it.

And yes its a lovely drink.

ReefKnot - Thank you for the suggestions on what to do during our one day in Tunis.  We took the ship’s tour to Carthage and saw many of the attractions including Les Bains de Antonin, the Roman villas, and the aqueduct.  The tour also included time in Sidi Bou Said which was lovely if a bit crowded.  The weather cooperated with a slight breeze.  The visit to the Medina was cancelled due to security concerns although I must admit, I felt quite safe everywhere we went.  We hope to return to Tunisia some day.

Glad you got to enjoy some of the sights, shame about the Medina but probably understandable.  The French Embassy is in that area and recently there has been protests in front of the place, unfortunately they often get a bit animated. Not something that tourists should be seeing!

I'm in the US.  Seabourn sent the offer to my TA, who then forwarded to me.  It was about 7 weeks prior to sailing.

I received an offer from my TA in UK for a January sailing, it was basically a forwarded  letter from Seabourn with the upgrade offer. PH suite on Venture for £499 per person and wintergarden for I think £3299 pp.

OKAY...I think I now know why I was having issues this morning with mysilversea.  I was able to finally login in.  To my surprise the Guest Information documents now require a Health Acknowledgement.  I am very sure that this was not part of the necessary information when I completed it for our World Cruise a long time ago.

    Silversea Vaccination Status Requirements

Fully Vaccinated Guests: All embarking crew and guests aged 12 years and older must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at least two weeks prior to embarkation. Only guests fully vaccinated with approved WHO vaccines (see here) will be permitted to board. A copy of your vaccination certificate must be uploaded in advance of your travels. In addition, in order to board the ship, the vaccination certificate must be printed in two copies and presented at the terminal during the check-in and embarkation process.

Up To Date Vaccinated Guests: You will need to be fully up to date with your vaccine status (‘up to date’ means a person has received all recommended COVID-19 vaccines, including any booster dose(s) when eligible), in accordance with each of the countries you plan to visit on your respective itinerary. We recommend that you refer to each country’s official government website to understand the complete vaccination status requirements for entry, as well as the ability to roam freely, enter restaurants, cultural institutions, etc.

Unvaccinated Guests: Silversea will accept unvaccinated guests aged 0 to 11 years old ONLY. All other Silversea guests must be fully vaccinated to board one of our vessels.

Country requirements: Whilst Silversea will facilitate entry into each port of call during each voyage, guests are responsible for complying with entry requirements for the country of embarkation, as well as the travel requirements affecting their return journeys.

Note:  All guests over the age of 11 must be fully vaccinated.

I've lost count of the number of recommended doses, is it 4 or 5 now?

Think I've had 4 but it might be 3 .

  10. I went to New Orleans about 10 years ago and seem to remember that even though gambling was illegal there were a couple of swanky casinos. Obviously I asked the burning question to be told that although gambling was illegal gaming wasn't. Is that true or was that just an amusing story?

Hi Lola, you can certainly be pleased.....they are your team after all! Your guys played excellent and ours? We STUNK it up today!

A much better day for America today.  But they have left a lot to do tomorrow, advantage definitely Europe

For anyone interested in what the teams were wearing:

USA: dark blue trousers, white polo with dark blue and red hoops, finished with a red and white stripe on the rim of the collar

Europe: dark blue trousers with a red fleck on the pocket, white polo with burgundy stripe on the shoulder .

The 1st day is finished........you are winning 6.5 to 1.5.........unless we can do something REALLY GOOD tomorrow, this is done......looks like Europe is kicking our a$$.

Yup, no one would have predicted that this morning. On paper America looks to have more depth but somehow the team just didn't click.

As you say they really need to bring their "A" game to the course tomorrow .

    Go Europe
