  1. We’re vegetarian and had a great dinner at Chops. We got soup, salad and sides. Best meal of the cruise!! Only bad thing was that the head waiter personally came to our table to find out why we weren’t indulging in the pork belly or any steak.

That’s funny. I’m guessing he wasn’t interested in a philosophical or health discussion.

  2. My other "must-do's" are the Hemingway House and Key Lime Pie. We were wondering if we stayed on the train for the full loop would we have time to either stay on the train to go back to the Hemingway House on the second time around, walk back to the house from the drop off point near the ship after the tour, or should we hop on and hop off at that location? Are there long lines at either the HH or the HOHO stop? Our ship is in port from 11AM - 5:30 PM, so we would need to be back on the ship by 5 PM. On the map it looks like we can easily walk back fro the HH along Duval Street and possibly pick up our key lime pie along the way.

I went to HH in January. No lines, other than waiting for the person selling tickets to answer other people’s questions, like, “Do we have to pay full price to just go see the cats?” Um, yes.

There are tours included in the admission price that start every half hour or so. You can also wander around on your own and stay as long as you’d like. Highly recommend.

  3. Thanks for the quick response. I found 3 different menus, I assume they rotate between them?

I'm pretty sure my son will struggle with the main course selections. I found a copy of the kids menu as well, and wondering if he would be able to order from both? If he wanted pizza, can he order two from the kids menu? He's 12 and very active and has an enormous appetite. :)

He can literally order anything he wants from any menu. It’s wonderful.

"Do you know if there are any live bands doing a "Karaoke night" or Open mic night on the ship? I was on the Allure a few years back and one of the bands had a night where passengers could come sing with them. It was wonderful! Hoping I can have the same experience again when I hop on the Harmony in August."

The superb band, "Rock The Boat" had Karaoke ("Rock-aoke" as they called it) on Independence a few years back. Lots of fun. Most enjoyable band we've seen on all of our RC cruises.

Wow. That’s pretty special. Most bands really don’t enjoy this unless the singer is extremely attractive.

Yes, but you know a LOT more about me than I know about you, including my most private fantasies about Mexican crew members with sunglasses and clipboards. Here are my criteria for a solo cruise:

    1) On a week I don't have my son

    2) Out of a Florida port

    3) Prices are no more than $100pp/day

    4) Plenty of male eye candy on board

I actually considered starting a "Let's plan a solo RCI cruise" thread. Could be VERY interesting.

    Perfect

  6. Sister and I collect ridiculous hats, light up sunglasses, tiaras, mardi-gras beads, boas, etc. before the cruise and open different 'gifts' throughout the cruise. We wear them to games and bingo, and to the dining room on non-formal nights. Often, crazy accents or silly trigger words are part of the fun. "Do you have any Grey Poupon?" "Stromboli-oli-oli?"

Over time, it's evolved from silly t-shirts (airbrushed muscle men, "I'm with Stupid"), towering balloon creations, matching holiday pajamas, etc.

On Carnival and Princess, where the waiters do a song or song-n-dance, those silly accessories are shared. We sailed twice the same year on the Glory, and requested the same wait-staff... who were still wearing the silly hats we'd given them before. They jostled for the new light-up sunglasses, and made sure to get a pair to a one guy who had moved to a different dining room team. (And came back for hugs!)

We don't make a mess or cause work for the crew, but have discovered that fun is infectious.

    Yes!! Love it!!

  7. To get this back to where it belongs.....

Take a couple days to simply watch your fellow passengers. Sooner or later you WILL notice one with a gleam in his (her) eye.

Approach him (her)... Make the deal.... Have him(Her) approach your target with a hearty "HEY!!! Long time no see", followed by enough personal information of the target to REALLY confuse them.

Keep feeding your accomplice information for a few days, just enough to drive your target crazy...

Works like a charm... (Trust me on this)

I love this. I’ve done it. It’s pretty great.

  8. Nachi Cocom pro tip. You can ask your server to bring parts of lunch at different times. Ours didn’t seem thrilled about it but it was nice to have the guacamole and chips, salsa and soup first then the lunch a couple of hours later. We made sure to tip well.

Were there still stand up paddle boards and stuff to rent? SUP is really fun after a drink or two or five.

  9. If it makes you feel any better, I didn’t feel super safe in the Cozumel cab as part of a a family of four, including a 19 year old football player. Glad you found Nachi. It really is lovely.

I too cruised alone this spring. I even went to an all inclusive beach club in also advisory listed Jamaica. We are living on the edge.

    Loving your review. Thank you.

  10. Thanks for the review so far! And I too can totally relate to the toothbrush incident.

I do want to add my 2 cents in on the crying kids being left at Ocean Adventure. I, too, can totally understand why it could bother someone to see a parent just drop their crying kid and run for it. BUT I will say as someone that worked in a daycare center through college and worked with lower elementary aged kids for several years some kids will cry at drop off every time. No matter how many times they have been left before. I had one kid that cried for 4 mins (almost exactly) after mom left for over 2 years until he moved into the next age group. Mom tried everything, but the longer she stayed the worse he would cry. Really, just dropping him off was better for everyone. At first she would call to check on him but after awhile it was apparent that he would settle down and be perfectly happy after she was gone so we just assured her we would contact her if he didn't. Things aren't always how they appear to be. I have always just been very thankful my own kids have always been content to be dropped off for a little playtime or preschool or whatever because I would have struggled to leave them crying even knowing they would probably be fine.

Yes. This. I worked in a preschool, and kids that age can be master manipulators. The same kids that would flip out at drop off (and were fine moments later) would also not want to go home at pickup.
