You have to wait for the ship to clear.  This morning it was around 7.30 to 7.45

We are still called by our name on recent cruises and by new crew as well as by those we have sailed with before. There is admittedly quite a few new crew on the ships.

On our recent sailings we have seen crew in the dining room and they seemed to be studying lists. In fact last September on Sojourn we had one of the stewardesses tell us laughingly that she sat a test the day before and our name was one of the few she remembered. She wasn't our stewardess either 🙂. Maybe it is our fairly common surname makes it easier?

Hi Julie.  We are currently on the Quest.  Earth and Ocean is the best service, food and service.  Solis Ok but I wouldn’t rave about it.  We have only been to the Restaurant twice, depends on where you are seated I think and the Colonnade we tend to avoid. We haven’t been addressed by our name by anybody except our cabin stewardess who is wonderful. The patio bar always remember our orders but never uses our names.

Changing the subject, it’s a good idea to bring an ice pack with you as Alf tripped up today and I asked for an ice pack.  Amusingly we were supplied with a plastic bag and then I had to ask for ice. The nurse in the medical centre told us they don’t have them on board any more,

Apart from that hiccup it’s been a brilliant cruise, the best we had for sometime, led by James and his entertainment team.

I tried that and now it does not give any menus just fining venues. Technology glitches.

It’s probably because Encore has no passengers onboard as it’s relocating around Africa,  no guests no need to publish daily menus,

We are booked on a cruise on the Encore in 7 weeks and I check the menu intermittently but source has had the same menu for the last 2 weeks since it added Solis and removed TK ☹️

Only a few items change daily, not the whole menu.

The Solis menus are posted daily on Source along with the other restaurant menus..  Log onto your booking and you can explore all the menus for that day.

Our experiences on Seabourn so far have been on the Encore and Ovation.  We are shortly going on the Quest and we would be interested in what are considered to be the main advantages and disadvangages.  I know that we will miss the Keller Bar but we are hoping there are some plusses other that the passenger count.

Any views would be most appreciated.

Our last few cruises have been on the Encore.  However as our Dubai cruise has been cancelled we are now on the Quest from Barcelona.  We are looking forward to being on the smaller ships again.  The only drawback that I see is that we don’t have the benefit of dining outside in Solis. The advantages are that the top deck is for all guests, unlike the Retreat and padded sun loungers .

You can always  book business class seats on European flights at no cost, If its long haul they charge unless you are a certain status, not sure if it’s gold or platinum now, you pay until 24 hours beforehand. Be aware that seats paid for in the event of cancellation, the money isn’t refundable.

That info was referring to BA.

On the AA website? Did you pay for your tickets already? Or can you only view and change on Flight ease?

On the AA and BA websites.  Not ticketed yet, but was able to select seats.

One suggestion in Bangkok for something that is not usually seen on regular tours.  See if you can find a tour that can take you to the Prasart Museum.  It is privately owned, lets only a small amount of people there each day and was a high point of one of our trips to Bangkok.

Thanks for the kind words. I’ve just come back from travelling in Thailand for a few weeks. Chiangmai up north, then back down to Bangkok and we drove down from BKK to Krabi via Sam Roi Yot (lovely area). Krabi was as wonderful as ever

its a very long day to drive from Laem Chabang to Bangkok to merely scratch the surface of a city that needs several days of your attention. Similarly Pattaya only really comes alive at night. The temple of truth however is a cheap taxi ride from the ship and I spent the best part of a day there. I had a simple bit of lunch there. There is a beach at Pattaya but you’re far better off enjoying Koh Kood. A brilliant day.

Vietnam was a private taxi rented on arrival from the port and excellent. Ho Chi Min city for us was an overnight, I presume the same here. Wonderful city without the panic of having to rush back to the ship.

Another suggestion is Jim Thompson House Museum. No need to take a tour, we took a boat along the canal/river and alighted right by his house.  Google him and you will find his history, his influence on the silk trade and his eventual disappearance in the Cameron Highlands.

What about the rest of the menu which had a lot of meat and in the case of Lobster Thermidor and even dover sole there was a lot of butter. The lobster Mac & cheese had a lot of cream and depending on the night either a decent amount or very small bits of lobster.

I'm waiting for the reports of the new Solis as I won't get to try it till next year as my next cruises are on Pursuit and Regent Explorer.

I’ll be happy to see the outside deck available for dining.

The TK menu didn’t suit our taste, dishes were very heavy, cream and butter sauces are too rich for us these days.

Hi Julie. We are on the quest from the 26 April so we will be able to comment then; It really appeals to me but Alf is more of a carnivore!!  Update soon..

  11. Thank you all for your suggestions.  None of these hotels mentioned have come up in Booking.com search.  We only need a hotel for one night,  flying Madrid to Barcelona arriving 18.45.   We are boarding The Quest the following day.   Our must go to visit is the Sagrada Familia , we haven’t been for many years.

i shall start looking at your suggestions.

Oh that’s great news, not that I really need it.  I’m not often in the UK these days.  How does the € to £ work out in the pricing?

I spoke to Seabourn in Southampton yesterday, spoke to a lovely lady who booked Solis for me on our forthcoming cruise in April.  Currently we cannot access our Seabourn account to book trips, spa or Solis, even though she could with our log in info.  She couldn’t understand it, neither can we!  We have tried all the normal routes of rebooting, closing down history etc, We have completed Guest Registration etc but then access stops.

Next now we will email Seabourn Club.

    Happy sailing.

Find a travel agent site - a well known one springs to mind

Basically you can’t although I would think if you use a VPN you could.  I’m not actually sure that the UK has its own website?  I asked Seabourn some years ago for the price in UK pounds and was told it’s exactly the same as Euros,  it might have been 1€ to 1£ in those days!

I use a UK TA to book any cruise. As galeforce9 says use a TA site but be aware that these sites normally give their price after their discounts. However be aware that when the price is calculated for you any discounts applicable come off the full Seabourn fare and any TA discounts are then applied.  Also you cannot take advantage of included airfares booking this way if you want to fly from anywhere not in the UK so we take the discounts.

We sailed many years with friends from Australia and one year we tried to book through UK TA and it became a problem for them over the Terms and Conditions and I believe in the end the booking was transferred to Seabourn in Australia.

Im now waiting, with anticipation, for a contradiction to my post!!

  14. I’ve just seen on the Seabourn website that the 3rd April sailing from Dubai to Venice is now showing as  “sold out”, which when I looked at the options 2 days ago, there appeared to be plenty of availability through to Athens which is where we would have disembarked.   In addition the 18 and 36 day cruises from Singapore through to either Dubai or Athens are also shown as “sold out”.  The cruise from Athens on the 21st April is showing availability.

It appears that something is happening that Seabourn has not yet made passengers booked on these cruises aware of.

  15.  Have just read an article saying that MSC have cancelled 3 ships due to sail through the Red Sea.  One is in April but it didn’t mention the dates of the other 2.  I realise MSC sail a different class of ship and have many more passengers but they stressed the most important thing was the safety of the passengers and crew,  Maybe Seabourn will soon follow suit and clarify their position.

What exactly is the process for their referral system?  I read the information on their site multiple times but find it as clear as mud.

I printed the forms and they are filled out and ready to go.    It is not even clear where to email them.  Then they want the guest "registered".  Very confusing.

    Any insight is appreciated!

We are sailing in April, send me a message with your email address and I will refer you,

I respectively disagree BuenaVista, and appreciate everyone’s thoughts and updates. Keep them coming please.  I have a Regent cruise in that area in March/April, so very interested in what Silversea is doing.  I truly appreciate all the anxiety that Moon guests are currently feeling.  My uneasiness is already beginning to build.  But it’s forums like this one that are so important for us to stay updated, exchange ideas — and hopefully reduce the stress just a little by having a more complete understanding of the situation on board.

    Very well said!

Because everyone knows this is out of the hands of Seabourn and out of the hands of all of us.  There is so much suffering going on in Israel and in Gaza--our concerns about cruise itineraries pale by comparison.  That is probably why there has been little comment.  Such a tragic and sad situation for everyone engulfed in that conflict.
