Are you personally one of the Destination Experts affected by these changes?

Absolutely not. I'm a cruiser just like you, usually Oceania or Seabourn (most recently on the inaugural Antarctica itinerary on the Quest) though I have sailed with Regent a couple of times, once when it was Radisson.

I'm a CC lurker these days, though I used to post occasionally several years ago under a now-retired moniker. Frankly, I thought the elimination of paid experts in lieu of unpaid amateurs was a rather juicy piece of gossip, enough to go to the effort of getting further confirmation (which indeed did corroborate the story).

With all the discussion I've read about the forthcoming PCH IPO, hearing about cost cutting purportedly related to it is something we should all be interested in.

For what it's worth, the rumor has now been confirmed to be true by a PCH contact in Miami and impacts all paid destination speakers for Regent and Oceania. So it's bye bye Terry Breen and the rest sometime this spring.

Reason for the change was, indeed, attributed to a cost reduction measure related to the IPO. If you value the port lecturers, you have one less thing you get for your money.

Hopefully cost reduction measures are not part of an ongoing trend.

I heard an ugly rumor from one of my Regent friends that all of the paid destination experts are being sacked in favor of ones that will work for free cabin on the ship. This was explained to be a cost-cutting measure as a result of PCH's recent IPO.

Wondering if anyone else has heard this and if Oceania is similarly being impacted? I think these guys and gals are very professional and bring great value. Rep:mad:lacing them with amateurs who work for free sounds like a bad idea.

Anyone else concerned about what PCH will be cutting next?
