  1. For my son's beach wedding I wore a strapless lined gauzy maxi in marine colours. It had an elasticated top. PROBLEMS, when I went up stairs I inadvertently stepped on dress hem, can you imagine what happened to the top???? Later I bent to have my photo with the seated bride and groom, and the photo was more revealing than expected. So I have cut some off hem and made firm straps. Hopefully no more incidents.

    Your dress looks lovely.

  2. ""Any tips on crossbodys for travel will be greatly appreciated.""

I am very happy with my EBags Piazza Day bag - which I bought after mentions on this board. It has thousands of favourable reviews; I find it not too big, but will fit my 8.4 tablet, 3-1-1 bag in centre, plus sufficient other/ hidden pockets , including under flap. End pockets for water bottle/mini umbrella. Excellent price.

I will shortly be doing 5 weeks solo through Europe ( including 13 day T/A cruise, 9 flights) carry on only, so every piece has to work hard.

I will be ticketed on Qantas, so that means 15lb limit main carry-on. but smaller tote allowed plus handbag. (They random weigh:eek:)

  3. I am 72, modern, mobile, weigh 112lb, 29"waist - I really want to help. Just trying to say that it doesn't necessarily take major changes to fix a new small problem. A low fat/high veg regime helps me. 3 to 4oz protein per day. Occasionally I bloat (specially after curry) and take an acidophilus capsule (permanently in fridge) daily for a week or so, and return to normal. Same ingredient as yoghourt without the calories!

Apple cider vinegar with honey is also good (Old Vermont Recipe). It used to happen more during "the change"....Luckily I don't have a sweet tooth!

I always consult my fully qualified and licensed for 30 years naturopath and any little problem has been fixed. If not, I would see a doctor. He and I both believe in trying the simplest natural solution first. For instance, a period of stress, nerves and shakiness was completely fixed with Vit B12 mouth spray, plus Caruso's anti-anxiety tabs (lemon balm). Both these products are made in Australia, but surely your local qualified naturopath would have equivalents.

I want to get around to posting on the carry on thread about my upcoming 5 week odyssey from Aus, via Miami, T/A cruise to Lisbon, car tour Portugal week with son, week in London, week in Spain (mountain village near Granada) with Sis, then home. With all the flights, Qantas dominating, I am planning carry on only - limit 15lbs major piece plus tote.

  4. Somewhere here I thought I saw a post where "pasted on" bling was removed - with great labor and care from a garment; I've just received some poly T shirts that I like, but did not notice the bling on the screen pic.

They are for casual wear; can anyone advise. TIA.

  5. As a healthy 72 yrs young, I have been using magnesium tabs for 5 years.

I think that we absorb less/need more as we age.... The only time I had a "digestive" problem was switching from tablets to capsules ,,,, it took a while to work out why I was suddenly getting IBS symptoms. AVOID magnesium oxide formula; I now use Swisse magnesium citrate tabs.

They are large, but will dissolve, or can be cut with a pill splitter which I find handy for vitamin pills.

If I forget, I will get cramps in cooler nights. (I know all about the fluffy socks). It is handy to have a supply by the bed - just in case. Just Google it.

  6. Sorry to interrupt here, but I use an idea that may help. Years ago when we had wooden wardrobes I bought men's tie racks to screw on back of doors. One was for necklaces and hook earrings, the other for belts/slim scarves. When we moved, I unscrewed them and we put them back inside our walk in closet. Post pin earrings went on a piece of foam vegetable box inside a small cardboard box.

You might find these timber backed swivelling tie racks at men's stores.

Hope you may find this of interest.

PS; Looking at my wardrobe, it shows that I am Earth, and had previously purged non blending impulse buys. Enjoying this thread, thanks and good wishes to all.

  7. Thanks for responses. The reason I'm extremely interested is that I am flying Melbourne/Lax/Miami (stay 3 days); 13day cruise to Lisbon ; week car touring Portugal with son; fly London, week with family; fly to Spain, week with sister; return to Heathrow and back home.

    1) I am 72 and solo

    2) I am worried about losing luggage (and hauling it changing at LAX)

    3) Travel insurance will not cover bags in locked car.

I'm not sure if BA does my outward flights, which determine my baggage and carry on limits. Will check.

    Would appreciate any further input.

  8. Hi -

Have just started looking at this forum. I am travelling USA, UK, Europe six weeks next year. Locally paid flights, US transatlantic voyage, then car.

I had to pay a cruise deposit in US$, which I did with my CBA MasterCard. I not only received a low exchange rate, but also a FX fee from the bank.

When our currency started to wobble, I went To Aus Post and bought a Multi currency MasterCard travel card and loaded it up with US$, UK pounds and euros at the exchange rate of the day- which was the same as the CBA rate.

When I later used this new MasterCard number to pay the substantial balance of the cruise - it was just debited off my pre purchased dollars and no fees. There are still balances credited on the card which can be used fee free at foreign ATM's for local cash or anywhere that accepts MasterCard.

Worth looking at for the convenience. I do sympathise with other posters admin problems.

  9. Here in provincial Australia we don't get to see much ultra High fashion. But my best find for shoes that are super comfortable leather, and durable is a company called Steplite, with shoes made in Portugal. Prices are in the mid $100's but are my go to's for all day stuff. One pair brown/+coloured trim lace ups have been looking good for 10 years with care, Mi latest are silver/lavender leather open toe flats that look good with everything and cool in our 40*+ summers. Hope you can find a US supplier.

  10. Thanks to all respondents. Maybe twice a day is tolerable if not interrupting conversation or Bridge..if it is a regular schedule it can probably be worked around. I DO study daily timetables and highlight my choices.

My last cruise (another line) featured adverts for sidewalk sales/bingo/photo locations frequently. Not relaxing!

  11. Hi All

I have spent considerable time reading the H/A forum plus reviews, but have not found any mention of the P/A announcements for Bingo, Sales stuff, etc.

Can anyone tell me how frequent they are - I think that they are not in the cabin...... I have suffered from overload in the past.....

    Thanks to you hospitable people.:)
