  1. We have booked 7106 on a future Koningsdam cruise and our two children will be in the suite with us. Does anyone know the actual bedding configuration in the SS? Is the murphy bed in the small area where the desk is? Perhaps the 4th bed is the sofa?

We were trying to decide between the SS and the Vista but I do like the extra square footage on the SS, especially if the murphy bed is in the desk area for our teenager.

Lastly, I can't find photos of the balconies on the SS category. Any idea how large they are and what kind of seating it out there?

  2. I know this subject is tired and discussed so many times, so please do forgive me. We are embarking on Silhouette this Sunday, Dec 31. I failed to purchase a specialty dining package as we booked late and there were none available. What is the chance of purchasing one when we board on Sunday? Also, where is the best place to do that?

On another note, the Celebrity site is acting up and I cannot find boarding time. What is the range as we would prefer not to board early and wait for the crowds to clear. Thank you!

  3. Did you book a VH guarantee?

You mentioned that you "wound up" in that cabin.

I didn't book through normal consumer channels and booked a verandah cabin, subsequently asking for a low cabin, midship. It is entirely my fault. However, I do strongly recommend not booking any deck 4 cabin with the obstruction. It has really hampered our views.

On a side note, if you are going to Geiranger, I cannot recommend enough booking an e-car!! Everyone who did the bus tour, wish they had booked the electric cars. We did a two hour tour and the car could go everywhere the bus went, plus little farms and such.

  4. I am currently on Koningsdam and have one regret I want to share. We booked a VH cabin and wound up in 4103. There has been a lot of discussion on how much of the life boats you can see from this deck, in this area. In my opinion, it completely has ruined balcony time and the view. It's impossible to get photos without the obstruction. I would never, ever book this particular stateroom again.

  5. Everybody probably has their own thoughts, but for us:

Culinary Arts was wonderful! Great food, friendly staff, and those cocktails (only available there) are yummy! Charge for meal includes all the drinks with the meal.

Tamarind was also a great meal.

I don't think we had a bad meal on the ship although Lido was nothing special.

Sheena in Explorations Cafe was super, she knew our family and our drink preferences within a day. I think when you see the staff getting their coffee there it says something about the coffee.

We didn't find the Dutch Cafe overly busy, but others mentioned they did.

I'm not a fan of any type of buffet, so what would you suggest for non-buffet breakfast and lunch options?

And, on a side note, we never exchanged for Norwegian (NOK) currency. Is there an ATM in Eidfjord that is convenient? Or can you exchange on board?

  6. I'll be sailing on the Koningsdam in a few days and considering it is a brand new ship - any tips from those fortunate to have sailed on it so far? :)

Yes, I would also love tips as we sail on the 12th! For me, I'd love tips on dining (since we are on my time dining), specifically times to go that are less crowded. Also, I can imagine that we will frequent the Dutch café often as I enjoy coffee and my 13 year old daughter will enjoy the treats. Is it always crowded?

Last minute packing advice? Things we need for the stateroom that we wouldn't think of?

Lastly, are there any shows or specialty dining that are inappropriate for a 13 year old to attend, albeit a very well behaved one. :)

  7. Hiking Westeras is one of the excursions run by P&O, who we are sailing with, 3 1/2 hours, 12:30 to 16:00, high activity. Runs from the Geirangerfjord stop. I am also thinking of doing another trip they are running, Mount Dalsnibba, as that goes 08:30 to 11:30. As they are both run by P&O there would be no worries of missing the ship. :)

I'm posting a weather forecast for our particular cruise which goes this coming Saturday later this evening.

    Keith (Southend)

Who else would you book excursions through? Every one that we want through the cruise line is waitlisted. We are departing on Sunday, the 12th as well.

  8. My 13 year old and I are going on HAL Koningsdam on Sunday, June 12th for the fjords (7 day Norse legends). I would love any suggestions on what to pack, especially for sight seeing and excursions. We are starting in Amsterdam, which is fairly warm, but heading as far north as Alesund. I'm thinking a rain jacket (is this necessary), fleece jacket. What about waterproof boots?

  9. Thanks for the info and support. At airport and all appears on time so good start. Would you pick Salzburg or Linz for first trip? I'm leaning toward Salzburg. I will look for Flo and Gundy.

I would choose Salzburg on the first trip, as it has so much history and is quite magical. And, thank you for saying hello to Flo and Gundy. :)

With regards to KaraokeQueen's question, there are only two dressy evenings on board the ship and the attire you will see runs a wide range. The second and the last night or "dressier" than the others but ladies can get away with slacks and a sweater, or a dress if they choose. I stuck with black, or you can go with a festive holiday color, and then dress up with jewelry. You'll find that most evenings, people will wear pants and sweaters for dinner. Some will even wear jeans, or whatever attire they had on for touring that day, and others will tend to dress up each night.

If you have other questions, let me know as I have done that particular itinerary twice. I'm leaving on Thursday to start the holiday markets on the Rhine aboard S.S. Antoinette. :)

  10. I've done that same itinerary twice and it's magnificent! Budapest has one of my favorite Christmas markets as the all of the crafts and ornaments are locally made. This doesn't hold true along the entire route though as you will find items at the markets en masse from other countries. This doesn't take away from the magic of the markets though.

The Gottweig Abbey is especially beautiful and I loved the organ recital there. I've done both the Salzburg and the Linz/Steyr option and they are both fantastic. You can't go wrong there.

I have two clients on that cruise and they are the absolute nicest ladies. Please say hello to Flo and Gundy if you happen to meet them. :)

    Have an amazing trip!

By the way, excellent choice of Mandarin Oriental in Munich! That has been one of my favorite hotels ever. The service is impeccable. The markets in Munich cannot be missed either. You must not miss the Glockenspiel clock tower at the larger market. It does a show at 11am each day and is an absolute wonder to watch!! The concierge at Mandarin can direct you to it.
