It was explained to me that the only reason you really need a passport, is if something happened and you needed to FLY home. In which case, you would need the book - not the card. But for just normal cruise activities, just the birth certificate is fine.

Thanks for all of the input.
I was considering the first night not for the bottle of wine (I'm actually pregnant, so it'd do me no good anyhow) but just because I was looking at different scenarios and different options, and different things to do... I probably will go ahead and save the steakhouse as a "date night" of sorts, though, because the 2.5 hours is a valid point. Charlotte would likely be very well behaved, especially if there are crayons available, but she'd probably enjoy kid activities MORE - and I want her to get the most out of the cruise, also.

Alright, I'm ready to book 3 encounters... anyone know if there's a specific hotel that is safe to list, as where I'm staying?

We ARE sailing carnival. :)
And she won't throw tantrums.... she won't know any different, honestly - but her Daddy was kind of excited about the royal swim, so he might. ;) lol.
Your answer aligned with my thoughts on it.

We were thinking about going to the steakhouse the first night, but do they offer anything for kids (since the kids club will be closed)?
Our six year old has good manners, and loves good food - but I don't want to pay $35 for more food than she could possibly eat.

We are planning on doing a dolphin excursion while in Cozumel, and I am trying to decide between two different plans...
I am pregnant, so am only allowed to do the Dolphin Encounter. My daughter (6) and husband will also be there. Originally, we all wanted to do the Royal Swim - before I found out I couldn't, so should we....
A) all do the Dolphin Encounter, together, and then maybe all do the manatee encounter as well? or
B) I do the encounter alone, and they do the royal swim together, at a different time.
I think I'd like to be in the water, participating with my daughter... am I crazy to rob her of the royal swim experience? /overly dramatic, just like she is. :D
ETA: Oh! And what hotel do I say we're staying at, when I book through the website?
Random magic question.

Are there hammocks on board the Magic? Please say yes. :)
