1. We are looking into at northern european (baltic) cruse in 2018. We've only ever cruised on Disney, largely because how great they are for the kids and how fantastic they are with my food allergy.

I am allergic to wheat. I usually will just say gluten free when asked. How does Princess handle food allergies? Are there a lot of varied options?

Can anyone speak to kids activities on Princess? I know we'll be spending a lot of time in ports, but it's also nice for the kids to have something to do so dh and I can have some time without them. They'll be 9, 11, and 13.

    Thank you!

  3. If rumour holds true, The Wonder might do Europe in 2016 (with the Magic doing Alaska, depending on the Canal) and then get her full dry dock/upgrades before the WBTA. In theory, the Magic is having her routine dry dock this fall (there is a nice gap between the last Med cruise which ends September 5th and the WBTA that begins September 19th), but there is not enough time for anything major in that 2 week stint. And I doubt they want to risk it. With the Dream going into dry dock at the end of September, they need the Magic back in FL on time to do the Bahama cruises. I personally don't think DCL will hit the Asian market until they have more than 4 ships... If ever... We shall see...

  4. There is no time for the magic to sail to Hing Kong either. The magic had cruises right up until the ebta and get first baltic immediately after that. If they wanted to dry dock the magic they'd have to cancel existing cruises are already booked. The last rumour I heard was she'd dry dock in the fall for routine maintenance, but I haven't followed up on that one.

  5. I wonder if the Magic will go back into Dry Dock in 2015 before the Baltic cruises to fix all of the unfinished things?

There are no gaps in the Magic's schedule for that to happen before the baltic/Norway cruises.

  6.
Thanks. The ratio for under 2s is 1:3 so seeing a ratio
of 1:6 was quite a culture shock.
In my state the ratio for infants is 1:4 (1 month - 11 months) and for toddlers 1:7 (12 months to 29 months). 30 months through six years is 1:10. So the DCL rations seem right on. I'm sure they get infants, but I'd bet vast majority of kids in the nursery are over 11 months.
  7. They do have tofutti ice cream and sorbet that are dairy and gluten free. But I will say, that's probably going to be it. I was just gluten free, and I had ice cream or sorbet just about every night as an dessert option (and not much else). One night they did have creme brulee, but that's going to be dairy. But as far as main dishes, they are incredibly accommodating. So don't worry about that.

  8. Disney is AWESOME with food allergies. If possible, I would sail on the Dream or Fantasy since they have a completely separate allergy kitchen, so the likelihood of accidental cross contamination is extremely low. I never had a reaction to gluten on the Fantasy.

I would bring whatever meds she usually uses if she does have a reaction, just in case, and go and have fun. Make sure DCL knows about the allergies ahead of time (have it noted on your reservation) and I would highly recommend eating in the MDRs whenever possible. They will have her pre-order her dinner the night before, you can also pre-order breakfast and lunch items if you wish, to save time when you go to eat, but you can also just drop in. I had no issues doing that.

  9. I've been following disney cruise line boards (several) for a couple of years now. That is the first negative thing I've read about the nursery on any of their ships.

Fwiw, I've worked in several day care centers with infant rooms. The normal ratios (state mandated) are usually 1:6 to 1:7. So that is a totally normal ratio to have and that alone would not concern me.

  10. It means you stereotype people based on perceived income level and where they shop, which I find appalling, and you probably stereotype people based on other things too. Seriously, people are rude, "riff raff", kind, polite, selfish, unselfish, from all walks of life. I don't assume someone shopping at walmart is less cultured than someone shopping at macy's. You just don't know.

Btw, just because my screen name is Dahlia doesn't mean I'm a "doll".

  11. I do agree with you. Riff Raff comes from all walks of life regardless of income, but for some reason a lot of them seem to have one thing in common and that is going to cheaper places. There are plenty of wonderful people that have a lower income level and they are not the people I was talking about. I could be standing in a check out line in, let's say Macy's, and encounter a jerk from time to time. But there have been many times that I would see an actual fight break out in a Walmart or have to listen to a person that can not put two sentences together without dropping the F bomb at least 5 times. It's just kind of hard not to notice these things.

I don't think I even want to know how you feel about different races!
