  1. So now only one person I know of on our sailing has a virtual balcony, I am betting next time she checks her reservation she will find it has changed.

I don't think it is a consolidation issue either.

I'm off the phone with no solution/information - it's with the "resolution" department now. I'm very curious if anyone has one anymore.

My guess this is why our boat when from having 100+ staterooms available one day to being sold out the next. They probably found an issue with the virtual balcony rooms during construction and stopped bookings so they could move people around if need be. Less than two weeks until embarkation, they move people around.

On the nature of the technical issue - my guess is they found the virtual balconies would be very disorienting/nauseating in choppy seas. With the type of seas we're likely to have on a transatlantic, I'm sure they are being cautious.

  2. Heads up

It has been reported now that some folks have found out that their Specialty Restaurant and other Dining Reservations, have been cancelled.

Also check your Entertainment because when Royal cancelled the Comedy Show on our sailing this caused a knock on effect and mix up with some Entertainment reservations and you may find you are booked for two shows at the same time.

Thanks for telling me - my stuff is all sorts of messed up now! Looks like I'll be spending some time on the phone with Royal today...

  3. I actually liked the reveal (more-so the pictures that are coming out as people visit the ship!), and Richard was cool as a cucumber - yeah I said it! He was typical executive, appearing knowledgeable and making everyone feel comfortable.

Onto the content - I am on the maiden voyage, and I too am getting frustrated with the overall lack of information. Even when they announce new information, they don't really announce new information.

We all knew about the faster internet (assuming you read the article about O3B months ago), but we still don't know the cost. That seems like quite a big omission in a "big" reveal dedicated to technology. Before you have a press conference, you should know all the details about a given thing. Look at Apple announcements (which, if you are worth anything in PR, you should be looking up to), they ALWAYS have details. You know the cost, the technology, and release date.

Richard said this ship would make Millennials happy - news flash, we care about specifics, and we want them now - if you can't give us details now, just keep your mouth shut until you can. Going general on a big release and not providing details on cost and timing was stupid.

For an event where you have a global audience tuning in to a livestream, you need to make it worth people's time. I shouldn't be able to go to your website five minutes after and learn more than I learned by tuning in - I shouldn't have more questions than I did before - I shouldn't feel like I wasted my time. But somehow, I can, I did, and I do.

Richard did a good job, but the PR people behind him didn't. Poor decisions throughout. Pick up the slack Royal Caribbean - those Millennials you are eager to please won't wait around forever.

  4. I think it's gonna be a Microsoft store on board. Since royal teamed up with them given crews Microsoft tablets. And they had xbox to play.

That's a good point. I wouldn't put it past them, but it just seems like it would be a waste of space. Could they sell tech products (similar to a Microsoft store), maybe. But I doubt a dedicated space for a branded store would be as profitable - retail on space on this ship is limited and let's be honest - how many people are going to buy a laptop/smartphone/XBOX on a cruise ship?

They do seem to have an "area" for XBOX, and perhaps they'll offer some products in the vicinity.

  5. It could be because Quantum is the first ship to have actual paying customers on board it's maiden voyage.

Yes - this is an odd circumstance... However, they must be doing something when she arrives. Perhaps they are planning on getting her in early and not disembarking passengers until the next morning?

  6. I agree that I think it's definitely app-related. I remember way back when they announced the advanced satellite technology to allow for much more bandwidth. A Quantum app that allows restaurant booking, activity booking, maps, cruise compass, and intra cruiser communication seems like a very strong possibility.

With that being said, I echo our concerns with RCI and IT. The new cruise planner and dynamic dining reservations was an epic failure...

  7. Yes I noticed in the video on Quantum website that Wink is in the Music Hall and I wondered if that and perhaps Gatsby would be a theme party like the Prohibition Party on Allure ?

Or would Gatsby be a show?

It seems like a theme party... There will likely be a number of theme parties there. Quite a few options given the video walls. You can create any number of settings.

  8. First, let me say that the idea - in general - is a good idea. Driving up onboard spending is a key goal of RCI's and the cruise industry in general.

However, we really need to break down the financial justification and implication of implementing such a system (just because other cruise lines do it, doesn't mean it would work for RCI - or that it's working for them).

The average couple is going to spend $500-$1,000 on board at various events, activities, drinks, etc. This is a given, so we need to look at the ACTUAL additional spending this program might bring. Because the low-end for most people on a 7-night trip is $500, you really can't give out a point for less than that (you'd essentially be destroying the point/night system currently in place). So this is a bare minimum - and I agree, it is a lot to the consumer.

From RCI's perspective, you ask, how can I turn that $500-$1,000 to $1,000-$1,500. Will giving an ONE incremental cruise point cause MOST cruisers to spend $500 on top of what they would already spend - I think the answer is a resounding no. One extra point isn't going to make or break anyone - even the point chasers. The people who spend $2,000+ already (because they love pictures, food, drinks, and bingo - a LOT of bingo) aren't going to be moved by the extra points - they might not even notice it. If you have people benefiting from a program without realizing it, it is a bad program. You can't give things away to people who could care less - that is bad business sense.

I will say that 50% of the people who responded on this post are probably already Emerald or higher - and let's be honest, wanting to maintain your higher, elite status over everyone else is a natural feeling! I would too! That's what capitalism (and loyalty/reward systems) support!

But let's be clear, the whole "too many point chasers diluting my loyalty status" isn't why this wouldn't work. It just doesn't make good business sense. I like the idea, I like the strategic goal, but I don't think the two are aligned in this case - one wouldn't result in the other.

Plus, RCI is taking the much more rewarding tact of offering more to get more. Give you premium experiences that you would pay extra for. This brings them more money and builds their brand. While I dislike certain things as a consumer, I can't dislike the business strategy.

  9. Thanks very much. Just cancelled and re-booked and saved myself about $500.

Just as an FYI, in the future, you could just call them to get the lower rate applied. Assuming you wanted to keep your reservation (i.e. If you had spent hours making dynamic dining reservation), that might make sense.

If I do, I always make a courtesy hold at the lower rate, just so I can give them a reference point or cancel and rebook if need be!

  10. Royal Caribbean to send Quantum of the Seas on 53-night around the world cruise

When Royal Caribbean sends Quantum to China in 2015, it will do so as part of an epic 53-night journey. OMG! Imagine trying to book dynamic dining reservations for THAT cruise!!

  11. I cancelled something online, but when I went to book another restaurant, and couldn't do it online, I called. Rep saw the old reservation as still showing. She booked something else on top of it, but could not get the old cancellation to drop off my booking. So right now I still have 2 reservations on one night.

And I just tried to see my booked cruises today and it says my reservations are being modified and I can't see anything.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. Still can't get into my reservations. Let me know if something happens!

  12. I am on 11/2 (same as Smoosh21) and I was able to book Starwater.

It seems from what I have read that it is only being offered on 11/2 Maiden at the moment.

Same experience here. I also can't book the Variety Show yet either.

I've been able to kind of book dinner around the shows. The ideal dining times (8pm IMO) are taken so I have some overlap and a few nights where I don't eat until 9-930.

I'm doing Mama Mia night 2 - how about yall?

  13. yesterday i read that devinly decadence is complimentary for breakfast AND lunch? might this be true?

I read the same thing! The best thing about Dynamic Dining (that is flying under the radar) is that a lot of these restaurants will be open for lunch!

The reservation system may be a complete flop, but no reservations for lunch!

  14. They are covering their end. I know you can make reservations for entertainment on SOME sailings (I'm on the 11/2 TA). Others with later sailings have had less luck - read the posts here.

With that being said, everything I've done could be erased by tomorrow if the system were to reset. Just pay attention to the online planner.

You're better off doing it yourself than calling them if you can help it. You'd be working on the same system, and you're not confined by what Royal has told you to say.
