I feel like the standard balcony is the way to go. That's what we had. We could pop out onto the balcony when there was something to see. With the horizon balcony, if you want to take a photo you need to open the window, which will then cool down your whole room.

Did you feel one side of the ship might be better than the other?

  2. We are looking at an 11 day Antarctica and wondering which cabin would be best. Is a balcony to cold for most days so a Horizon cabin with drop down window better? Would love to hear your experience and if you had one and wished you had the other or would book the same again.

Yes, I got your old cabin!  Thank you so much for making it available - I will buy you that drink in the SL. LOL.  I must have missed that side view CLS becoming open, or did you grab the Star Loft suite?  Saw one of those last week.

Had originally booked a back facing CLS as my wife was completely enthralled by the Aquashow on the Symphony.  I'm not sure how much she would have been able to see, and have since read that the side cabins are more desirable, but heck, I'm just happy to be in the neighborhood!

    See you in October, Cheers!

Hi There.  The OP here with an update that I think is unbelievable...

Since January, I have been watching ship availability pretty regularly.  A couple OS and Aqua suites opened up and were quickly gone.  However, this morning, I did my regular check and a crown loft suite was available; first one I've seen since this all started.  I questioned if it was even worth my time to make a call, but decided to do it so called by 'big box' TA.

ROYAL HONORED THE PRICE PROTECTION FROM JANUARY AND GAVE ME THE CROWN LOFT SUITE!!!!

It was actually pretty easy, no negotiation or tense discussion, just the request, approval and payment.  Confirmed it is showing on my reservation. I'm on cloud nine...way to go Royal Caribbean!!

    Cheers,

Glad to hear you got your room. If you don't mind me asking is your new cruise on Oct 29th?  If so we were in the same situation and my wife was crazy checking and we were able to get another CLS on this cruise within a few days of the other being canceled. I know we got lucky and it was the only one that worked for our schedule. We lost our side view but were happy to still have a CLS. Yesterday morning my wife still obsessed with trying to get a side view CLS saw one open up and we called our TA and got it. So if your are in 1726 which is the one we just move from, would love to meet in the suite lounge and toast a drink to getting to enjoy a CLS. First time for us.

  5. We are in a 2D balcony on the Jan 29th Odyssey cruise, we bid $80 on a large ocean view balcony and max out the bid on the JS at $220pp. Bid $500 to $540 on the Grand suite and higher not really expecting to get one. Checked today and all expired except Large Oceanview Balcony which is pending. I have to say a little let down since seeing people on here getting JS who bid less than us. We will still have a great time but a JS would have been nice.

We have booked this excursion with  Labo Larsen.  Apparently cruise days they dont scuba dive only snorkel.  This is also ok with us as the experience is too swim with the lion seals.  $80 US per person.  45 min in water.  Hop its warm 😃.  Posting afterwards may be difficult as I'll never find this post again.  Check Trip Advisor under this company name.  Will certainly post comments there afterwards and my add photos.  Pretty excited about this excursion.

Thanks for reviewing when you finish, can't wait to hear especially from a cruise point of view.

Have you gone yet?  We are going Feb 2, and will be be in Peurto Madryn on the 6th.  Have been in touch with a dive operation there and awaiting confirmation.  They've said that the water should be around 21 degrees at that time, so not too bad.  They do rent dry suites and the undergarments if you want to be warmer.

We are not going till next year so I'm trying to get some information. Please share your experience when you get back.
