  1. Help me out here. I booked last minute leaving NEXT WEEK because I found a GREAT deal.

We will stop in Juneau, Skagway, Icy Strait Point, and Ketchikan.

Usually I book a year (or more!) in advance, and I've never cruised leaving anywhere but Florida, going to the Carribean/Bahamas. I usually have a TON of time to plan and this time I have only one week, plus I have to pack, arrange Covid testing and all that. This is a once in a lifetime trip for me, so what things should one see in the ports? It will just be me traveling alone for this trip. I'm 32 and can handle moderate activity levels. Normally I'm drawn to animal experiences or adventure (ziplining and things like that) but really just want to see what is unique to Alaska on this trip, not do something I could do elsewhere.

  2. The Horizon dining room has a bar at the entrance. You can grab your pager on level 5 and sit at the bar for a drink.

That's awesome. Only that one MDR, not the other? Do you know if Horizon has early/late or your time?

I always get my drink somewhere else and bring it to the MDR because it takes FOREVER for them to bring me a damn coke lol. This will be less of a trek for me.

  3. I just got off the Magic last Sunday. We did CT on Wednesday night at 6:15pm. This was Puerto Rico day and back on ship at 4 pm.

If you're a foodie- any day is good for CT- it was simply incredible!

Loved it so much that I'm doing it next month on the cruise I "won" from winning the Magic Blackjack tourney. Breeze this time. Can't wait!

Wear non-slippery shoes/ low heels as you will tour the galley.

Can you (or anyone here) confirm if Magic has the new CT menu? Or is it the same one it has been for a couple years- mango spheres, tomato bisque 2 ways, a crab cake, duck textures, a seabass, a beef dish? We've had that menu at least twice, maybe more, already, don't want to do it again until there is a new menu.

  4. Hi all

We are traveling with a 7 year old and a 4 year old. I see Daniel Johnson does transportation + entrance to his monkey and sloth hang out for $20pp, or a tour which includes the above for $30pp. Does anyone know if kids are discounted, or maybe under 5 free? Debating between this or Victor Bodden tour, his monkeys, and a beach- which is $30 pp, our 4 year old free. All our 4 year old wants is to hold a monkey!

  5. My sincere apologies. I have downloaded a pdf of the menu both from the Magic and the Breeze websites so I assumed it was available for all ships. That's what I get for assuming.

I just looked at the Triumph and it's not there. I'm sorry I misled you.

Could you tell me how to download it for the magic? I am not seeing it anywhere. Wondering if it's the same menu we had this time last year. Looks like it is, but I'd like to know for sure.

  6. Hi all,

We leave Monday on our first cruise on Royal. We will be on Majesty of the Seas. Give me a run down!

Specifically we would like to know:

What drinks are included, and are they actually readily available? Trying to decide if we want to bother with a drink package- we don't drink but would use the everything but alcohol one.

Are there ice cream machines or something similar around? My kids want all the treats lol

If anyone could point me toward the right direction to see menus I would appreciate it.

I also assume it is like other lines, where you can order multiple of foods (apps, mains and desserts) if you want to, correct?

Hmm, seems most of what I'm interested in is food lol. I've been reading up on the ship, so I have a pretty good feel for the rest I guess.

Oh, one non food thing. Are there movies played on the tvs in the rooms? We end up stuck in the room because we travel with our kids, so we catch a movie here and there :)

    Thanks all!

  7. We are doing this same sailing in a week and a half. Thanks for your commentary, very helpful! We have never done a Royal Caribbean ship before. It seems like activities go very late! Shows at 10 and 11. We have a 7 and 4 year old, so we're used to doing the earlier shows and getting back for bed. But vacation is the time to say up, right?

Can you tell me, is the lunch on Coco Cay free, like on Half Moon Cay with Carnival? And do they run movies in the rooms too, or just by the pool? We always end up watching one in the wee hours of the morning after the kids are in bed lol

  8. Sounds like they need an age requirement as well.

As the mom of a quiet careful 7 year old, and an outgoing fearless 4 year old, I don't think an age limit would help. While I can understand where you are coming from with it, my 4 year old would probably go around it without missing a beat(although she would rather go with me lol), but my 7 year old would probably freeze up. They've been that way since she was 1- she did things at 1 he wasn't doing at 4. She is just fearless and has second child syndrom lol

  9. Sorry if this is old news, I haven't checked much in a couple weeks. I'm currently on the Sunshine, and one of the channels has an interview with John Heald thing, and he made a comment that Vista will be the first ship with fully digital photos. Hopefully they spread the digital photos fleetwide after they test it there!

  10. Did you get a letter about it in your cabin before the CT?

You're right. I just checked the letter, and it has at the very bottom:

*Please note an automatic 15% gratuity will be added to your sail and sign card'

We didn't get the letter until past midnight the day before (so technically the day of), so I had forgotten about it, since we had already called to confirm we were on the list since we hadn't gotten our letter.

That being said, they made no mention of it when we signed up, and the letter also says they will charge $25 if we cancel within 24 hours, and as noted, the letter wasn't delivered until 24 hours in advance, so at that point we were paying $25 each at least.

Again, I am not complaining, I was planning on tipping extra anyway, which is really the only reason I noticed, because we didn't get the paper to sign for the charge. However I do think people should be informed beforehand (with enough time beforehand to decide if they want to do it, without being charged). So hopefully most people who sign up will read about the new policy.

  11. We had the chefs table a couple days ago (4/20/16) on the Sunshine. We were told $75 per person and not told plus 15% gratuity when we booked, just a $150 charge (2 people). After the meal they handed us our pictures but did not take a card or pass out things to sign, so we did not have the option to tip extra unless we had cash on us. They just said Thank you so much have a good night, and people started leaving, so I guessed the papers were never coming. We were not charged until today (4/22) on our sail and sign cards, it finally appeared this morning as something like $172. Not complaining, just informing.

  12. Just got off an 8 night with two formal nights. The first formal night did serve lobster. The second formal night did not.

Yeah, 6+ nights still do, it's only 5 and under that changed, that's why I was looking for someone who did a 5 night one. John posted the replacement formal menu but I'm not sure if it's for all ships with or without American table, or what. Guess we'll find out!

  13. Thanks all. I am particularly interested in if anyone has done a 5 night, what the new elegant night menu is. Is it the same the John H. posted when they changed to no lobster (the menu he posted has scallops, crab ravioli and duck), or is that the "old menu" version and American tables get something different?

  14. Were just of Liberty and had package, As I looked back it wasn't really cost effective for us. Achemey Bar we had a couple of drinks that was a little over $10 but we only averaged about 6 drinks a day do to port excursions. Was had to get dinner alcohol service outside of shooters which are not covered. Wine was easy to get. As far as high dollar drinks, asked for Johnny Walker Blue and they don't carry. So if you drink less than 10 drinks a day not worth it.

10 drinks seems pretty high. Maybe 10 total for both of you. Or if you drink super cheap drinks. The break even point was well below 10 for most drinks though, I think.

  15. Yes, it's all automatic. For instance, when I clicked "Purchase Now" under the Cheers! package online, it automatically popped up with both mine and my husband's names, and a total price for the two packages. There was no other option other than to buy it for all adults in the cabin. The same thing will surely happen if you wait to buy it onboard, as well. They are aware that lots of people want to cheat and break the rules and are on the lookout to prevent it.

Yup, figured. And I don't want to break the rules, either, but I don't like that rule. Wish we could do a cheers/bubbles split lol. Ah well. Maybe we'll try it on a short cruise so it's cheaper
