  1. BULA! Join us as we walk around and soak in the sights, sounds and smells of the incredible SUVA MARKET, the largest municipal market in the South Pacific located in Suva, Fiji. Considered by many chefs and foodies to be the best market in the world! Not to be missed when you visit SUVA. It is a fantastic place to take in the local atmosphere. We begin upstairs in the colorful and fragrant SPICE MARKET and KAVA MARKET before heading downstairs to the Fruits and Vegetable market. The roots and weighing scales upstairs comprise the widest selection of kava in all of Fiji. Wander around and see the smiling and friendly locals in action as they go about their daily business with an atmosphere buzzing with activity and chatter. Row after row of stalls are laden with produce,, both inside and out. As with most municipal markets in the country, it's beside the bus station and the majority of goods come, along with their owners, fresh from the countryside daily. Throughout the market, the Fijian and Indo-Fijian sellers are generally patient and happy to chat. It is a short stroll from the port. BULA!  Filmed 2018 from our South Pacific cruise.

Walk along with us on Rua Santa Maria as we discover the colorful painted doors of Santa Maria Street in Funchal, Island of Madeira, Portugal. Rua de Santa Maria is one of the oldest and most colourful streets in Funchal on the Portuguese island of Madeira. It is located in the old town (zona velha), this old cobbled street leads up to the church of Santa Maria Maior, and is wide enough only for pedestrians and is lined with restaurants, cafes and the odd art gallery or two. The narrow street, which dates back to 1430 as a thoroughfare up to the church, has recently become one of Funchal’s most popular tourist attractions after the local council came up with an ingenious initiative in an attempt to revamp the slightly run down and dilapidated area. In 2014, when the “Art of Open Doors” project was started, the street was turned into a public art space, as local artists were invited to ‘move in’ and get to work on over two hundred of the street’s doors. The idea was to create a piece of work that invites people walking along the street into experience something deeper.

Join us as we visit the Mercardo dos Lavradores in Funchal , Island of Madeira, Portugal. Located in the heart of old town Funchal, the “Mercado dos Lavradores” (Farmer´s Market) is a covered marketplace that overflows with colour, aroma, sound and tradition. Inaugurated in 1940, the “Mercado dos Lavradores” was built to provide the island´s inhabitants with a central location to buy and sell local products. The main entrance is decorated with hand-painted azulejos (tiles) all displaying regional themes. Also at the main entrance you will find women dressed in the Madeira traditional costume selling flowers. Walking into the market you will find yourself on the first floor where fresh exotic fruits, vegetables, spices and herbs, leather and wicker are sold. You can sample the exotic fruits of the area. Fishhall downstairs ... Further into the market and walking down steps to the ground floor you will stumble into the area where fresh meat and fish such as “peixe espada preta”, tuna, octopus and lapas (mussels) are found along with the very ugly, but very tasty Scabbard fish.

  6. Join us as we explore the picturesque hilltop village of Civita di Bagnoregio, Province of Viterbo in central Italy approx 75 miles from Rome. Civita di Bagnoregio is accessed via a pedestrian bridge from the nearby ticket office in Bagnoregio village. The Porta Santa Maria gateway was built by the Etruscans. Founded in the 7th century, the Romanesque San Donato Church sits in the main square. Civita di Bagnoregio was founded by Etruscans more than 2,500 years ago. The Civita (or City) was the birthplace of Saint Bonaventure, who died in 1274. The location of his boyhood house has long since fallen off the edge of the cliff. By the 16th century, Civita di Bagnoregio was beginning to decline, becoming eclipsed by its former suburb Bagnoregio. At the end of the 17th century, the bishop and the municipal government were forced to move to Bagnoregio because of a major earthquake that accelerated the old town's decline.

Enjoy your cruise and be sure to bring some bug spray for the Marquesas and spray BEFORE you leave the ship.  We took spray with us and didn't use it til we stopped at a lookout and it was too late.  And all the bites were really itchy.

    Safe travels...
