  1. Hello

I wasn't sure if this forum was right to post in, I also posted in Family Cruising, so if one needs to be deleted, please do so.

We are booked on a 5 night Royal Caribbean cruise (Adventure of the seas) on Nov 17, 2021 out of Galveston. We are flying from Northern Alberta to get to the port, so our packing is limited to airline allowances.  We plan to arrive in houston the night before. As of now, it looks like our flight would get in around 8pm.

Our son will be 21 months at the time.  So these are my questions, lol

-would it be better to stay in Houston, and travel to Galveston in the morning or go straight to Galveston for the night and have more time in the morning before boarding? Google shows its about an hour ride.

-Are there car services from houston airport to galveston that provide carseats?

-do we bring a carseat in the event we need to take a shuttle?
-has anyone rented a car in houston airport, and dropped it off at the pier? I know that way we could have a carseat included.  Can we also pick up a carseat from the pier?

-Does RC provide transfer to houston airport at disembarkation?

    Thanks!

I wasn't sure if this forum was right to post in, or if I should have used the homeport forum - but my bigger question is around travelling with the toddler, LOL, so I went with families.

  3. Thank you so much for all the replies!!!!!

We really did consider the balcony + interior, but I'm too nervous to leave babe sleeping in one room, while the adult is in the other.   I'm definitely gonna watch prices, but I think we'll end up sticking to the connecting OV. Maybe someday they will make a few spacious ones connect LOL.

Thank you also for the info about the fridge!! I never would have thought of this.  We won't need formula or anything, but will definitely want to have snacks on hand.   As for the DL access, we are only platinum right now but hopefully get to emerald in the next year or 2!  Be a long while before we hit Diamond haha.  We're Canadian so not easy for us to jump on a cruise.  The double points program ends before this cruise but still wouldn't have gotten us to platinum, we sit at 39 points right now.  I look forward to enjoying those benefits someday though!!

We are huge travellers so my thinking is to start bringing him with us early, he is a super chill 1yr old  (hopefully stays this way) and has already flown across the country 3 times, so fingers crossed the more exposure the better he will take to being  a traveller like us :)

Thanks again all! Hopefully see some of you on Grandeur.

  4. Hello all

We are big RCL cruisers (got married on Allure), but are currently booking our first cruise with our baby - he will be just under 2 at time of sailing (taking advantage of the free flight haha).  We are looking at Grandeur out of Barbados, as we LOVE the itinerary (Jan 2, 2022 - ABC islands), and we also adore Barbados.  Grandeur is probably my least favorite ship (and not that baby friendly haha) but its small and intimate, so we figure a good place to start. Plus price is awesome!

We are booking connecting oceanview (deck 4, midship) right now, but I'm really struggling with if this is a good idea.  My mother will be in the connector as my thinking is that my son can go to bed, and whoever is staying 'home', can still be up in the other room safely. We would love to do the Spacious OV, but they do not have a connecting option and I would not leave him asleep in a room alone.   The price to jump up to BAlcony is astronomical, but we will do it if a baby in a regular OV is a bad time, LOL.

Looking for any advice from families who have cruised Grandeur with a toddler, or anyone with insight about the connecting OV cabins.  I do know that we will not have a sofa - which sucks as the chair is probably just going to be in the way haha

    Thank you!

  5. Hi there

My travel agent isn't having any luck reaching someone who can help us find out if we can utilize the $300 onboard credit MyVegas reward on our cruise booked for Aug 29 (only deposit paid right now).

Does anyone have a contact number to reach someone that can actually speak to this program and if we can even use the reward? I've given her the number to myvegas, but is there any contact numbers for RC?

We are also having her check into buying onboard credit at the low rate! Hopefully it works :)

    Thanks!

  6. I have only done one cruise (wedding) and we did prepay to make our final payment less. We also had unlimited drink pkgs. the problem was that we felt pressure with every drink to "additionally tip". It was extremely frustrating to get a paper bill with the big empty tip line after every single drink. We felt guilty!! They really need to get rid of that. We would tip our fav bartenders extra, but not just passing through and grabbing a beer.

  7. Hi everyone

Have just booked this cruise for our honeymoon :) We were married onboard Allure in February.

I have a few questions as that was our first cruise together-hopefully someone can help us out!

1)This seems a port intensive cruise and as we will be on our own (not with 60 of our nearest and dearest!) we want to explore each one. I am wondering if anyone who as been to these ports (Dubrovnik, Katakalon (Olympia), Kusadasi & Santorini) can give me an idea on what they are like.

We would like to book a max of 3 excursions, and explore one just on our own, but I can't tell which port is best for this. We'd love a day to just walk off and head to a beach for the day, and see the town.

So far we are looking at an excursion in Santorini and Olympia. Can anyone share if there are beaches near ports in Kusadasi or Dubrovnik? And can we walk to Old Town from port in Dubrovnik?

    2) It says online that we dock back in Venice at 6:45am, but that disembarkment is 9:30. Can we arrange earlier checkout? We have a flight out of Venice at 11:20am.

Any other advice for this specific sailing is welcomed!! I have scoured the boards/net and gotten some info but it's hard to put it all together.

    Thank you!

  8. Hi there- we sail Feb 1 on Allure! (Eastern caribbean)! This our first cruise but it is our wedding cruise, as we will be married at sea. We would have loved to get a fancy suite but the prices are just outrageous. And as new cruisers we can't be in the club to get tier status or whatever. We are bringing 60 ppl on board and have spent a fortune with buyouts, drink pkgs, ceremony upgrades etc. Just wondering if anyone knows any tips/tricks to swing a deal :)

  9. Only 25 days out!!!

Speaking by phone with our wedding specialist Desirae today, and still trying to find out if we can have a slideshow in Chops. At this point I'm guessing that I should just let it all go until we get on board!! We were told we could have our ceremony at 1pm, but haven't been given a venue yet.

We are having a set menu (3 choices of each item) for our meal, but I have no idea what the set up of the restaurant will be. I have asked for a head table of 8, then 4 tables of 10, 1 of 6 and one of 8. Hopefully this will look nice. Then we will have our cake cutting and dance there. PS - if you book Chops its for 5:30-11! I don't know if we will utilize the whole time, but we figure people can start gathering at 5:30 and get a drink , then maybe we will arrive at 6.

    I certainly don't need pictures from 2pm - 6pm though haha.

I'm worried about music, but sounds like an ipod is just our best option. I just know that if anyone wants a certain song played it screws up the list, I wish a DJ wasn't so much money and trouble lol

Would still love to see your pictures Soulfish!!! I provided my email above :)

  10. Just looking for any advice - we are getting married at sea, by the captain - should we provide a small gift, or a tip? I feel like a cash tip is a bit tacky...but would probably be more appreciated.

Also, did anyone tip their wedding coordinators or musician? I have to pay $250 USD per coordinator and I have to have 3 because we have 60 guests - outrageous!! I have a hard time wanting to tip on top of that insane rate. I dont even want the musician but seeing as how its included Im using it haha.

Just wondering what other at-sea brides have done.

    Thanks!!

  11. Message for Soulfish....how did your reception in Chops go??? I am doing this exact same thing, however, they are telling me I can not have a DJ?! 2 small speakers only. I know that it has been done before.

What was the room setup like, do you have any tips for me? I'm slightly panicking...

    Thanks!

  12. Hi Everyone

I tried searching but couldn't what I was looking for - has anyone done a reception in Chops for a large group? We have 60 people coming for our wedding. We are having our ceremony through RR at 3pm, then having our reception/dinner in Chops.

I was under the impression that we could have a dance floor, dj etc set up in there from reading reviews, but now it looks like we cant! The Group coordinator emailed us and said we could run 2 self powered speakers and an ipod, but no DJ!! I am in a panic. We had paid to buy out the restaurant $5000 + $2000 min drink bill. I also am certain i saw that someone had their slideshow in there too, but now I am worried nothing will work out!

Please if anyone has done this, respond and let me know how it was set up. I have also asked for tables to be put together, and even a head table but they wont get back to me. I was provided a 'layout' but I can't make sense of it, it looks like the room is all seperated by walls. I am seriously panicking. I just wanted to have dinner and our dances in the same place, and now I don't know what its going to look like.

    Thank you in advance!!!!
