Ok i have diabetes. If cruise directors can cruise with diabetes, will i be able to cruise. Whether i can cruise is an Issue hanging over my oct 2020 and may 2021 cruises. I really wish this would get resolved.  I know the stats about deaths but older diabetics have other health issues. I have been lucky so far to just have diabetes. I am platinum on carnival and no issues.  I think cruising should be my choice. Are there other diabetics in the same situation?

I'm 74 and have Type 1 diabetes and peripheral neuropathy. I have 14 cruises under my belt and had to cancel 3 cruises during 2019 and 2020.  I thought I had read a notice from NCL and RCC about not allowing anyone my age with pre-existing conditions to cruise.

Now I'm not sure what the cruise lines want and I've tried calling their numbers and it just rings and rings.

  2. We are booked for an NCL cruise to Alaska in late August.  We were going with our kids and were

really looking forward to it.  Now, from what I've been reading and researching, we probably

will be cancelling our part of the cruise.

I amd a Type1 Diabetic on an insulin pump for over 30 years. I have other

    chronic diseases.

My wife is a year into being diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease.  Very mild, though

    noticeable.

This would have been our 14th cruise.  We've never had any issues, but(as some have said)

getting a doctor to put his name on the line to say you won't have issues is next to impossible.

We've so enjoyed our cruising and loved every cruise we ventured on.  We will miss it.

    Bon Voyage to all

  3. I have just run into an issue with IV Therapy while cruising. I have a diabetic foot ulcer. My doctors have prescribed 3 grams of Ampicillin Sulbactam mixed in a 100ml bag of saline, four times a day. Takes about an hour from start to finish. This would require 28 bags of the saline with the 3mg vial attached, 56 prefilled saline syringes, and 28 prefilled Heparin syringes, plus extra tubing, alcohol swabs, gauze, etc. Plus, I'd still have my insulin pump supplies and CPAP machine to carry with me. I called Royal Caribbean and talked to a "medical" representative. Basically, they couldn't guarantee they could treat any issues I may have with my picc line. Plus, no where in the cabin to safely hang the bag while the IV was running.

We ended up cancelling our cruise and are not battling with RCCL to get our money back.

  4. We will be first time cruisers on Royal's Harmony of the Seas. We have sailed on Carnival, but these pay for restaurants are confusing to me. Do they all cost money for lunch and dinner? I was assuming most would only be open for dinner and not lunch.

When we sailed it, a year ago, you could buy a dining package of your choice of 3 of the “specialty” restaurants. We ate at Chops and two nights at Jamie’s Italian. Great meals. Enjoy this ship.

  5. We were on a RCCL cruise, last Spring. When leaving, my wife dropped her wallet on the floor of the cabin. Apparently the steward didn’t notice it, as we got a call from the people who were staying in the cabin and they had found the wallet and took it to the customer service desk. we contacted RCCL and they said they would priority mail it to us when they tot to the first port. They did it and we had it 3 days later, only to find the money (about $150) and 3 credit cards were missing. We called the credit card companies and made them aware of it. They stopped the card usage and issued new cards. Only 1 card was used for a small purchase. I’m sure it was a test charge and shortly after that the cards were useless, But, what bugs us is where the money went. Someone along the chain made off with it. So, be careful out there.

  6. Since travel on breakaway -outlets are by desk -so you require extension cord to reach bed -the guest relations supplied a gallon of distill water

Was just on it last week. I travel with my own extension cord, but found two heavy duty cords in the drawers under the sofa. I carry a 2 plug adapter that also has the usb plugs in it too. Worked out fine. I can say, Royal Caribbean's Allure of the seas and the Harmony, have plugs on the bed side of the cabin. You have to get down on the floor to reach them. Usually the phone is plugged into it, but there is a free one.

Hope you had a great cruise.

    Thanks for your response.

  7. Probably not something anyone is going to know since she's not finished yet but do the balcony rooms have electrical outlets next to the beds? Family member has a CPAP machine that needs to be plugged in by the bed. Trying to figure out if we need to bring an extension cord and if so how long? First trip traveling with one. Anyone cruised with a CPAP before? Anything we need to know?

I always bring along a 6ft. extension cord and a 3ft long piece of

floor wire conduit (like they use in offices), so the wife doesn't trip over the extension cord. If you ask the cabin steward for a cord, they bring you a 25ft long construction grade cord. That being said, on our Allure of the Seas cruise of 3/16, I found a plug by the nightstand, where they plug in the phone for power. That came in handy. Doesn't hurt to check under the bed. Also, carry your CPAP bag with you, when you board. Your checked luggage gets thrown around a lot before it gets to your room.

  8. What is your exact date? How many people? What is the total cost of the package including tax?

Trinityreservations offers a package for just over $200 Tax included at the Ramada Plaza which includes parking and round trip port transportation for up to 4 people. Newark Airport is not a vacation destination - it's a highly urban industrialized area. IMO the Ramada location is better for ditching your car while on a cruise.

Further checking, I called Best Western and they do have a shuttle service to the cruise port, but, it's a $30/person charge.

The standard room, for 10/14 would be 153.
